    Weight gain.....

Why are people gaining weight during COVID? "The Covid-19 pandemic has likely exacerbated the problem for many teenagers whose daily routines have been disrupted and who now find themselves at home all day with lots of food being hoarded in kitchens and pantries, Dr. Nagata said in an interview. “We’re seeing more patients and referrals for eating disorders and their complications,” he said." Weight gain.....

Yeah, I hardly ever log in here anymore because... sheesh.

    Weight gain.....

I've gained weight because I am working my butt off learning a new job and I don't have the natural movement of going out or to an office like I did before. Also, my father died, some of my friends are sick, and sometimes all I feel like doing in the evening is sitting around feeling like crud and eating Skinny Cow ice cream. I'm back on plan, but I judge no one for their weight or what they eat EVER!

Do and do not eat foods.

The only thing I was told not to ingest was carbonated drinks. Like my dietician, I don't believe in good and bad foods. More like foods that help you achieve your goals and those that do the opposite.
  5. My doctor and I talked about the lowest weight I had maintained when dieting and exercising and NOT taking appetite suppressants as an adult and came up with 175. That's a 27 BMI, I'm 5'6.5". So that's pretty square in the middle of overweight. When I hit it I thought I could lose more and set a stretch goal of 150. I also think BMIs are not appropriate for individuals, they were designed to measure populations. And muscle weighs more than fat. So I don't really care about BMI much. I DO care about fitting into my current clothes (or smaller), being able to run and exercise generally, and feeling good.
  6. You won't be able to lift anything heavier than 15 pounds for the six weeks so if you don't have children or pets that need to be lifted, I think you'll be fine. Good luck!

    Covid Test!

@Conniebonds , sorry you feel badly. Your reaction, pain and regret, is incredibly common but most people grow to love their WLS. Good luck and feel better soon.

    Covid Test!

There are two tests, the long q-tip that most people think is uncomfortable or a shorter one that people can do themselves under supervision that most people think is pain free.
  9. This board could use some moderation.
  10. Carba Nada is a reduced carbohydrate and high protein pasta. I really like it as an occasional treat. They sell it on this site, Amazon, Walmart, etc. I've tried a few veggie based pastas that are good too.

    They MEAN well, but...

I have a cousin and her husband who comment on my weight inappropriately. In the parking lot before my father's funeral, her husband told me I looked like I had lost some weight. My response was, "Could we please stop talking about my weight?" And he did.
  12. OK, I'm sure she heard you loud and clear. 🙄
  13. I would ask your surgeon's office manager to help with the insurance appeal. They are motivated to help you get it done and know how to code things for approval.

    Self conscious

We're not far from the same size, but I've never had that issue. I concur with the suggestion of talking to a counselor. Most people at restaurants are just concerned with eating their food and aren't looking at or judging you.

    Protein bars

Are you looking at Built Bars? I do like them (I have a sleeve) but I make sure to stick to the 110 calorie bars and just have them occasionally. They may make some people dump.

who can tell me is waist trainer useful ?

You can't spot reduce. The only way to make one area of your body smaller is by losing weight or surgery. Toning that area will help it look firmer. If you can't breathe comfortably in what you wear to workout, you won't be able to work out as hard.

    Pregnant

Weight loss really increases your fertility. Congratulations! Your doctor can help you work out a nutrition plan to support your goals and your baby's.

At A Loss (Not Weight Loss)

Do you track your calories? That is what helps me the most, just to "stay in the game" and make sure I'm not eating too much. My back is messed up. When I started my exercise was physical therapy. Now I do Pilates. It doesn't burn many calories, but it does help you build long, lean muscle.
  19. I've had the sleeve for almost two years and haven't had any heartburn or GERD. If I had had GERD, I would have had the bypass initially. I've been very happy with the sleeve. It's a pretty personal choice based on preference.
  20. Just another post that I could swallow my medications fine the day after surgery. It helps to use a thick liquid, like milk, protein shake, or tomato juice to wash them down.
  21. The seriousness of the coronavirus is beginning to concern me in Massachusetts. The U.S. does not have nearly enough tests and IMHO our government, which has been underfunding science, does not have a good plan to combat it. About 20 major universities have asked students not to come back after Spring Break. I'm healthy, but my husband and parents are older and have compromised immune systems. My father is in a nursing home. I have a few thoughts, and I'm curious about what you think, and how things are in countries besides the U.S. As more tests become available, I think there will be a sharp increase in cases over the next several weeks. In the U.S. some people have been asked to self-quarantine. The period seems to be for two weeks. I would avoid all unnecessary visits to the hospital. I'm not sure what I would do if my surgery was in the next few weeks. I'm keeping our house stocked with 2 weeks of food as recommended by the CDC (Center for Disease Control). Keeping all my medications in stock Washing my hands carefully and often I also have purchased small amounts of these things, although I'm not sure they will help: N95 Masks, rubber gloves, antibacterial wipes, and hand sanitizer. What do you think? What are you doing?
  22. Can you pick out some things you can tolerate now, like protein shakes and/or powder and either bring them or mail them to your destination?
  23. That sounds awful. I'm sorry it happened to you.

    Can anyone help, or....

I've never heard of this and fear your only solution is medical, seeing a different doctor. Can you eat nut butters or any protein dense, high calorie food? If you want to say where you live in TX, people may be able to recommend their programs/doctors.
