I ordered chicken nuggets off the children's menu at an airport restaurant but thankfully they were gross and I only had about 2 bites. -
Was told not to lose weight
JessLess replied to DelawareWoman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My BMI was 40 which was my insurance cut off, so I was told not to GAIN but not to worry about losing. I had a previously documented 80 lb. loss on Phentermine, so everyone knew I could lose. -
Please help me, I have terrible regret RNY

Your feelings are very normal. I was lucky not to have them, but lots of people do. I take a medication called Ursodiol to prevent gallstones because I also want to keep my gall bladder. I would ask your doctor about it. I think I started it a month after I was sleeved. This is not a time to make any decisions. Just work on drinking water and what your doctor recommends and try to find a professional to help you. When you have healed more you will feel so much better! -
I thought it was better to bump an old thread than start a new one? I really did myself in at my office holiday party last night. I know it's too soon for me to be drinking alcohol and it's just empty calories. I thought I couldn't face the prospect of an over four-hour office party without one. I had had one drink at home previously to see how I would react and I had a drink at the party. Both times I didn't get a pleasant buzz but this morning I have a massive hangover. I'm putting the booze back on the shelf for a LONG time. I also ate too much. I was so proud of Thanksgiving and restaurant outings that I felt confident I could just have a little. I had half a jumbo shrimp, which now tastes hella weird to me and gave the rest to my husband. Then a little salad, a couple bites of baked potato, and part of a piece of salmon. It was way too much. I wish I had thrown up last night because it is all still with me and I need to get up, dressed, and go to work feeling stuffed and hungover. I know better than this. This was not worth it.

I only got off caffeine for about a month before and after my surgery (I think). I drink 3-4 oz. of coffee with skim milk and get in extra water. Nothing bad has happened to me, my surgeon said the caffeine ban was to make it easier to diagnose complications, and I haven’t had any. It’s risky behavior, but I just couldn’t function without it.

I seem to remember from last time I was in straight sizes, they go up to at least a 16 if not an 18 in some lines. So you could be out of the plus department sooner than you think!

Good luck!

Hi Everyone , litle help
JessLess replied to lili@ne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have Percocets. They are safe if taken as directed. They aren't time release and it's safe to split them. Sometimes I take pills with something thicker than water so I can't feel them go down, like a protein shake. Here's some info on pill splitting. https://www.webmd.com/healthy-aging/guide-to-pill-splitting#1 They may make you constipated so I recommend adding a stool softener like Colace. -
Since I was only eating 2 oz. at a time per my dr., I had whatever I thought would be good + my protein. I (and my friend who was sleeved before me) became obsessed with premade mashed potatoes with butter, something I NEVER would have had while dieting. Also, mashed avocado, hummus, and Yoplait yogurt whips were all things I liked. I just made sure I drank my protein. I like the taste of Premier Protein Shakes and now I drink Isopure Black Tea protein water. When the portions are so small, it can be fun to have something you wouldn't usually eat, in my case, white carbs (the mashed potatoes).

I was allowed to take pills immediately and took all my pills except my multivitamin horse pill the normal way. I was on Flintstones Chewables for a month.

I was sleeved 10/15/18 and nope. For better or worse I could always eat and drink water find and had to make a concerted effort to eat more slowly. Can I make 4 oz. last 30 min? NOPE It would be good if I could, though. My friend had a bypass and she can only eat very slowly.

Wow, I'm so sorry you feel that way! I had my surgery 10/15/18 and have lost 30 lbs (maybe even less than you since I had mine earlier) and I feel awesome about it! I have never lost 30 lbs. in 2 months before. At first, losing a pound a day was awesome, but I don't think it's sustainable. I'm losing more like 2 lbs. a week now. Your walking sounds awesome. If you are getting in your water, I bet if you increased your calories you would see more of a loss. It sounds like you could be in starvation mode to me.

@KentuckySteve, good luck with the additional calories. When I was eating 500 calories I almost fainted at work and I'm a foot shorter than you are. Some things I find easy to eat with more calories are avocados, cheese, hummus, and smoothies with fruit and protein powder. Good luck!

That’s awesome. I will be 2 months out tomorrow with no real negative side effects. I’m down 30+ lbs. and VERY pleased with how this has been going. My “secrets” have been very high protein, rigorous portion control, and drinking a lot of Hint Water. Exercise besides physical therapy is my next goal.

Why you should NOT work out after WLS
JessLess replied to Bougieb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Dr. V DOES recommend Physical Therapy, which I am doing anyway because I have a bad back. The 7 weeks I took off after surgery was a big mistake and I was in a lot of pain when I went back. Thankfully I'm improving. I think exercise is good for the emotional benefits and general health. I can't lose as much as I want without exercise, although YMMV. I think a lot depends on calorie consumption. I can't really do the treadmill, etc. on 500 calories a day. I'm very disappointed he has an MLM scheme going. I wasn't aware of it until now. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. He has some good ideas and I like him, but he also has a "hucksterish" quality and I am not into the MLM at all. Frankly, I think it's inappropriate and exploitive for a doctor to be doing it. -
There are plenty of sites that welcome judgy negativity. It would be one thing if you had something helpful to add, but snark? That doesn't add anything except hostility.

Anyone using the Baritastic App to track nutrition?
JessLess replied to The 56 Bypass's topic in Food and Nutrition
I used to use www.myfitnesspal.com some pros are I think the tracking is more accurate, there is a much larger food database, and you can track on a laptop/desktop OR the app. Baritastic can only be used on the app. I like them both for different reasons. -
I can no longer eat food that tastes good

You'd be surprised what people don't notice. LOL -
I had a REALLY hard time giving up coffee before my surgery. I didn't get headaches, I just felt fuzzy all day. After I went back to work I started taking a mint with the caffeine of half a cup of coffee every morning. Lately I am having a very small cup of coffee at breakfast (3-4 oz.) It makes me LESS constipated and happier.

JessLess replied to Oct517's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I only put a small serving on my plate, 3 oz or less. Then I take a small bite, sit on my hands and chew 20x. This seems to help me. (Thanks, Dr. V.) -

I use it. It’s connected to my hospital so I get reminders about support meetings too. -
I’m 48 and got sleeved 10/15/18. It took watching enough of my friends do it with positive outcomes for me to seriously think about it. That and a strong recommendation from my PCP. I’ve been very lucky to have had a relatively easy time adapting. My husband made me a plate of food tonight and I laughed. It was 4x what I eat now. I told him that was his, got a small plate and made up my own proper amount of cod and cheesy cauliflower.

I looked up Pocari Sweat and the problem, I think, is that sugar is the first ingredient. Can you order from Amazon.com? They ship to UAE.
