I relate to this so much. I am a Health at Every Size activist. I lost 80 lbs. on Phentermine about six years ago. All of a sudden I had a cousin I barely know writing to me about how happy she was about it because my health must have been so bad before and I had no weight-related health issues then. I was invited to family events that I hadn't been previously. People acted like it was, by far, my biggest accomplishment, nevermind that I have a law degree, etc. I told people what I thought of their bad behavior at the time. For me, compliments are great, but when it suggests there was something seriously wrong with me before, it crosses into offensive behavior.

Weight Loss Disappointment
JessLess replied to Jerseygal247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're doing fine. When's the last time you lost 20 lbs. in eight weeks? Keep working your plan and you'll keep losing. Good luck! -
I'd put some Neosporin on it and watch it. If it seems infected, off to the doctor. Good luck!

Funny you should ask. I'm wearing a five-year-old pair of army green colored pants that seemed to fit this morning but are still too tight — looking forward to going home and removing them. New shirt from Lucky Brand and sweater from Nic + Zoe.

I just downed a medium sized bowl of fruit salad in one sitting, how is this possible?!
JessLess replied to Brotherman Bill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I see this is your first post. We generally try to keep our tones a bit more kind here. Also, there's a great browser extension called Grammarly. I highly recommend it to you. -

Well, I guess everyone's not perfect. Oh well, judge away, but a bowl of fruit is not the same as big portions, buffets, and greasy fried food, no matter your unusual logic. -
Surgery needs and help

I'd just add phone + charger and hairbrush to the list above. -
Caramel Premier Protein Shakes Are Back
JessLess posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Caramel Premier Protein Shakes are back on Amazon in a new container that looks less leaky. They are almost twice as expensive as vanilla and chocolate. And for all our sakes, buy some stuff on this site so Alex doesn't get mad I posted this. Ha ha. -
I feel tired a lot from other meds I take, but it's also a sign of iron deficiency. I keep taking it JUST IN CASE it helps.

In Massachusetts, they put your AGE on your driver's license. My NSV from this morning is my BMI is 29.9. I've gone from obese to overweight!

3 Weeks and I don't get full that fast
JessLess replied to madssmadss's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve 7 months ago. I don't try to get full because full and sick are almost indistinguishable. I count calories to make sure I'm not eating too much. Right after surgery, I was a big fan of 2 oz measuring cups. -
What are your favorite excuses?
JessLess replied to Supersecret's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"why aren't you eating anything at my dinner party?" No one has ever asked me that, and I went to a Thanksgiving dinner at a relative's house 45 days after surgery. I put a spoonful of each thing on my plate, ate a little, and played around with the rest. But how about, "everything looks so good, where did you get the recipes?" "how did you suddenly lose weight so quickly, is that safe?" I did tell a few people I was on a doctor-supervised diet, but I think diet and exercise are also fine. "Thanks for noticing, I've been working hard at it!" "where have you been for the past couple weeks?" I told people at work I had an operation and wouldn't tell anyone what. They left me alone. "Oh, how sweet of you to notice. What have you been up to?" "a little bit won't hurt you!" Actually, I think it might make me feel sick. Please enjoy yours, though! "Oh, thanks for offering, it looks great, I'm full, though." -
I'm perimenopausal and don't have periods due to another bio-hacking projecting of mine, and I'm borderline. I take it in addition to my multi-vitamin with iron, which may not be totally necessary. But I credit my taking all my vitamins and getting all my protein with for not losing any hair. I'm not perfect by any means, but I was good at those things.

TIPS FOR TAKING IRON Iron is absorbed the best on an empty stomach. Yet, iron supplements can cause stomach cramps, nausea, and diarrhea in some people. You may need to take iron with a small amount of food to avoid this problem. Milk, calcium, and antacids should NOT be taken at the same time as iron supplements. You should wait at least 2 hours after having these foods before taking your iron supplements. Foods that you should NOT eat at the same time as you take your iron include: High fiber foods, such as whole grains, raw vegetables, and bran Foods or drinks with caffeine Some doctors suggest taking a vitamin C supplement or drinking orange juice with your iron pill. This can help the iron absorb into your body. Drinking 8 ounces (240 milliliters) of fluid with an iron pill is also OK. Good luck! If that doesn't help, I would call your doctor.

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake
JessLess replied to Alvinchicago's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Sorry, this is not accurate. With my insurance, you needed to have a BMI over 40 OR have a BMI over 35 with comorbidities. If you're paying yourself, you may have a lower BMI. I have never heard of the 100 lbs. above your "ideal" weight statistic. Could you please quote your source? -

Take it home and make 3 more meals out of it? I used to live in New Orleans, not a big dieting town. I feel you. haha -

If you know where you are going, would it help to look at the menu online before and decide what the best choice is? Almost everywhere has a salad with chicken on top. I do get kind of BORED during long meals, but I eat too fast. -
I am angry that he sells MLM and tries to recruit people to his downline. I think he takes advantage of his position as a doctor and preys on naive people.

weird question
JessLess replied to Mariella Josphef's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could easily end up back in the hospital doing that. I understand not wanting to tell your friend but think up some decent excuses like that you ate already! -
Short answer, yes.

I've asked my family not to talk about my weight. I lost 80 lbs. about 5 years ago on Phentermine and all the praise I got was annoying because it was kind of suggesting I looked awful before and like weight loss was my greatest achievement, not my family, degrees, job, etc. And then when I gained it back, it was even more awkward.
-
Also, when I used to travel I'd worry that if I lost my luggage I'd have to go to a store with plus sizes to get what I needed. No more.

I’d cut way back on drinking before the surgery and dropped beer because of the carbs and calories and wine because I don’t like the taste. I was pretty “good” and waited 2 months to have a drink. No buzz, just st a hangover, not fun! Now when I drink I get a buzz so fast I rarely have a second.

JessLess replied to Brotherman Bill's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This whole conversation isn't making much sense because no one knows the nutritional issues involved with a "bowl of fruit." If you want to track what you are eating in a meaningful way, you need to list the actual different fruits and amounts that you ate. Like some berries are more conducive to me meeting my goals than other fruits are higher on the glycemic index like watermelon and grapes. And applesauce and mashed banana were recommended to me when I was starting on soft foods, so fruit is on some people's plans for post surgery. -
Pre-op and post-op prep!! List style
JessLess replied to shellyk018's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My suggestion is not to buy a ton of anything because your tastes and tolerance to some foods may change after the surgery. Good luck!
