Autistic bariatric patients and psychological clearance
JessLess replied to cajunredpanda's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@cajunredpanda, that is great news! I think you are making the right choice with the reflux. I would have gotten RNY if I had had any issues with it. -
Hey everyone! My 1-year appointment is tomorrow. I've logged in here almost every day and the support has really helped me stay on track. My start weight was 250 and my original goal was 175. I'm now at 169 with a revised goal of 150. I'm very, very happy with how everything has gone and I think I can keep the habits I've established for the foreseeable future and hope to lose more.

When was the last time you lost 15 lbs. in 2 weeks? Your body is recovering from the surgery so things will take a little while to normalize.
-
Have you had your bloodwork done lately? It could be an iron deficiency if it continues.

I told my somewhat judgmental mother about a year after I had it. She asked me why I didn't tell her before, and I told her I didn't want her to worry. She's my dad's FT caretaker and had gallbladder surgery a month before I had my sleeve. I didn't want her opinion or judgment either, but I didn't mention that. 😎

My husband was against it, but afterward, when he realized I could still go out to restaurants and hang out with him and he didn't have to do a bunch of extra work except things like carrying heavy boxes and the laundry around, he came around. Now he cooks things to my criteria. I was 48, FWTW

Should I be worried or glad about really rapid weight loss?
JessLess replied to Briswife15's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Every time I've had a stall I've broken it by increasing my calories. If you feel healthy, I'd enjoy it! Good luck. -
Pre-op essentials purchases
JessLess replied to Ruxa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a year out and my advice is not to buy a case of ANYTHING because your tastes may change after the surgery and it will get wasted. I did find some plastic 2 oz cups helpful after because that was my serving size for the first month or so. -
Gastric bypass or sleeve
JessLess replied to laura071693's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
With the sleeve, I switched from an extended-release drug to the regular formulation after it stopped working. Fortunately, this has worked out fine. I would discuss a plan if your extended-release drugs stopped working with your doctor. Hopefully, you can convert yours over as easily as I did. -
It really varies based on a lot of things like metabolism, age, heredity, level of activity, muscle mass, etc. The quality of the calories matters too. I would start by counting calories to see what you are eating now, then experiment by slowly dropping them until you find the right level. I am still slowly losing at 1,000-1,200 a day, but your number might be totally different. Good luck!

2 years out and weight gain.
JessLess replied to nurse123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't think this is going to be a very popular insight on here, but I could never have lost weight if I didn't accept myself when I was fat too. Are there things that made you successful before that you have stopped doing? And as for meal planning, for lunch and dinner, I shoot for 4-5 ounces of protein, chicken, fish, steak, etc. and about half a cup of vegetables. I don't include a starch unless it's something I really want or a special treat. Good luck! -
Hospital Stay— Anxiety Disorder?
JessLess replied to PepperCat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have GAD and take a Xanax every night. I didn't want to go into withdrawal so they put Xanax right in my IV (I think, where ever the liquid meds go). I'd talk to your surgeon to see if you need to make additional plans. -
I have overeaten like that and felt awful once. Now, it's like a wall comes down in my mind that says, "BAM You're Done!" And I stop eating. I guess that is the restriction and I need to prepare for its probable departure.

@catwoman7 I have a sleeve. I will check with my doctor though, thanks!

Yes. The calcium is spread out like that because it's best absorbed 500 mg at a time. I eat a lot of dairy and probably don't really need it, but I am very interested in keeping my teeth. The D is because I live in the NE without that much sun. My levels are great, I could probably reduce (under supervision) if I wanted to.

My program doesn't allow chewables except for Viactive Calcium. This is what I was told to take (and still do): Morning: • One A Day Women’s Vitamin • Vitamin D 2,000 • Vitamin B12 500 mcg • Vitron C Iron Noon • Viactive Calcium With Dinner • Viactive Calcium Evening • Viactive Calcium

1 week post op severe stabbing pain on left side.
JessLess replied to Tammi O.'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Please call your surgeon's office and talk to them. Good luck! -
When I was in that stage I drank protein shakes and protein water so I was able to have some non-protein 2 oz. meals. Hummus Smashed banana Premade mashed potatoes (I don't eat them now, but when I was getting like 300 calories a day I did.) Yogurt Mashed avocado Also, for me, thirsty can seem like hungry, so make sure you are staying hydrated. Good luck!

Did your surgeon want you to lose weight before you got surgery
JessLess replied to Summer56's topic in The Gals' Room
No, my BMI was 40 and I didn’t have any co morbidities. My insurance would only cover it with a 40+ BMI. -
Gastric bypass or sleeve
JessLess replied to laura071693's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I’m very happy with my sleeve. I don’t find the long term outcomes for success to be significant for me. My doctor only does the sleeve unless someone has GERD or another good reason to go with bypass. Good luck with whatever you choose. -
I think to lose more, you may have to amputate a limb. Great job.

So I was sleeved nine months ago and have not had any complications or issues. I blacked out 3x last night trying to get from the bathroom back to my bedroom around 2 am. This happened once before around 6 am. Think it's low blood sugar? I don't have any other symptoms of dumping syndrome. Last night I had 4 oz. salmon and 1/4 cup of grilled zucchini for dinner around 6 pm., then a skinny cow ice cream bar at 9 pm. Hopefully, this will not happen again, but my husband has a glucose meter, and if it does, he's going to measure my blood sugar when it happens. Mr. Google didn't have much to say. Has anyone else experienced this with the sleeve? I will call my surgeon, promise.

I'm fine now; it hasn't happened again. But I appreciate the concern.

How long till you were pain free
JessLess replied to Dee2938's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry that you are still in pain. I seem to remember about 4 days, then about a week before I could sleep on my side. -
I have lost weight relatively slowly. 79 lbs. in 11 months. I try not to compare myself to other people. I follow my plan and am still, slowly losing. I don’t think comparing yourself to other people makes most people feel good. Run your own race, etc. If you don’t feel like you are doing as well as you want to, try to make today the day you stay on your plan. One day at a time. It sounds like you are doing just fine. Hang in there.
