6mo into the fray and I am having some concerns and would appreciate guidance
JessLess replied to Tormentus's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Welcome! My first suggestion is to get a handle on what you are eating by tracking your food. I use the Baritastic app. It's really easy and you get used to it. Can you get an appointment with a dietician? Maybe make a list of all the foods you do like and pick the ones that help you achieve your goals. Have you ever tried V8 or other vegetable juices? Losing/thinning hair is totally normal even if you are doing it right. It will likely grow back. I lot of people cut their hair shorter while they are losing some. You are right on schedule for that. If you are unhappy with your loose skin after you are done losing, a lot of people get plastic surgery. Good luck!!! -
I just tracked my breakfast and spent a few minutes pondering the carbs in the 3 prunes I've been eating daily. If you had told me I would be doing that 2 years ago I would have told you that you were crazy.

THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD
JessLess replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've beat every stall by INCREASING my calories and my surgeon has been very pleased with my progress, so YMMV. One person's experience may differ from another's. -
THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD
JessLess replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Serengirl, I was going to let that go, but of course, it's crap. Many things can skew it, tons of illnesses. Thyroid issues. PCOS. Tons of medications. Water consumption. Stress. Even SLEEP. Very little is actually known about it. If it was, we would all be on the same diet and it would work for everyone. Peer-reviewed journals like 'Obesity' have high impact factors because there is tons of interest in weight loss research. Give it some time. You may be a slow loser and still lose all your access weight. I didn't say anything because I'm trying to just let people be wrong and not worry about it, but when they are upsetting other people, like you, I'll say something. -
For the lazy, I get frozen filets as Wegmans. I love the Chilean Seabass.

My exercise WAS PT and walking on a treadmill for the first six months. Eventually, my back hurt less when I lost some weight and I graduated to personal training.

I'm too old to lie, I might forget what I said. Why not just say you are having minor but necessary surgery and will be out for 2 weeks? Then when I came back I told everyone I was on a medically supervised diet to avoid interest in why I was drinking small amounts of protein shake all day. Really, no one cared.

How long did it take for your insurance to approve ?
JessLess replied to Empress jade's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Some insurance companies default is to deny everyone for some things. I think making an appeal at least once may be worth it. -
THE SLOW LOSERS CLUB SUPPORT THREAD
JessLess replied to Serengirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Before surgery, I found the slower I lost weight the longer I kept it off. As long as the needle moves slowly in the right direction, I’m happy. This is a marathon, not a sprint. Also, most people, like my surgeon, think I’m losing faster than average. I don’t think the people who are really sabotaging themselves post here unless they want to change. -
That's fantastic, congratulations!
-
I know this is an old post but I’m in peri menopause and one reason I wanted the surgery is I knew it would be harder BUT NOT IMPOSSIBLE to lose weight. I hope your journey is going well.

Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
JessLess replied to J Johnston's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OMG, we are the same person. I'm always like, "It was GREAT! Can I take it home?" -
What do I need to prepare for surgery
JessLess replied to danny29's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I live near a CVS and if you do their CarePass discount program their generic vitamins and minerals are BOGO and 20% off. They do free delivery with CarePass. The prices come out about the same as Amazon. -
I put a safety bar in my shower. My advice would be to see your doctor. It could be a lot of things.

1st visit with surgeon

I'd call and ask. Every program is different. -
Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
JessLess replied to J Johnston's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I told my mom over a year after my surgery. She told me if I started eating like I used to I would gain the weight back. Can you guess why I didn’t tell her at the time? I tell overweight people who ask because that helped me decide. Otherwise, depends on mood. -
That's not that different from my plan, I just add 64 oz. plus of water. Good luck sounds solid.

Travelling on an 18 hr flight 6 weeks post op- anyone done it?
JessLess replied to Nicky6's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
What does your surgeon think? -
I'm always cold now. I added a wool blanket to my side of the bed and I always wear layers to work, including one wool sweater. I used to get my thyroid checked all the time in case it was sneakily making me fat. I'll do it again next time I do tests.

Going out to dinner first time after surgery
JessLess replied to Purplepaige70's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've eaten off the children's' menu without issue, but I also prefer an app. -
Almost 15 months!

I have to measure/weigh because you can eat for 20 more minutes after you're full without feeling full. BUT I do get a sensation like a wall coming down that seems to mean, you're full, stop right now.
-
It also has caffeine. as you probably know, so if you've been off coffee, it might be a little jolting!

Shorter menstrual cycles, lighter flow, Endometriosis, constipation, fertility
JessLess replied to LondonSleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The sleeve, Tramadol, and peri-menopause all cause constipation and I have all three. Yay! I would go to a fertility specialist about the menstrual changes. Good luck. -
I have some frozen spinach in the breakfast smoothie I'm drinking right now. (Vanilla Premier Protein Shake, frozen spinach, frozen raspberries, flax and chia seeds.)
