I was banded in May by Dr Simchuk in Chico Ca. Is there anyone else out there who would like to share experiences?

This won't appeal to everyone but I like to eat smoked oysters and sardines. Its quick and easy for meals at work. I eat it with cottage cheese.

I got my band 5-5-08. Just like you I struggled and lost around 35 lbs. In Febuary I had a fill that changed everything for me. I lost 16 lbs in one month. I understand it now. Its working. It took 9 months to get there. You will too!

Any Advice on Getting "Unstuck" Quickly?
sandyt56 replied to Holabbie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just bought some papaya enzyme today. I don't know what it does or how it works. Does anyone have any information for me. I'm hoping it will help that uncomfortable feeling. When I feel that way I DO stick my finger down my throat. (Gotta stop that) -
Timely post! I've been cruising at the same weight for about 3 weeks now. Haven't really tried to change it. I'm getting my second wind now too.

I just can't get over the bones I now feel under my knee. All of a sudden they showed up. I'm constantly rubbing them.

When my husband and I go out to eat I ask for a plate so I can eat a little off his plate. I don't know how many times the waitress has come back with the meal split half on each plate. Luckily my husband doesn't mind switching plates after I eat what I can off mine. I seem to get less annoying attention at least.

I had my band placed 5-5-08. The last fill I had was 3 weeks ago and I for the first time, don't feel hungry. 9 months of waiting! I wasn't sure until then what they really meant by no hunger. It really is no hunger. Its fantastic!

I hear you. That is the main reason I picked lapband instead of gastric bypass. I feel like I can control how much I lose. I have a coworker who has lost so much weight with bypass they are threatening to sew her stomach back together. See has to eat all day. :sneaky:

I was banded in May of 08. I have gone in for numerous tightenings and would do pretty well until the swelling from the tightening would subside and then I would be hungry and struggleing again. The last fill did the trick for me. NOW I understand what they mean when they ask me if I'm hungry. I'm not anymore, at least when I feel hungry I'm really hungry and not just wanting to eat. Before this I had actually had some saline removed from my band. I was having pain and BPing alot. On my last visit the doctor actually put more in than had been removed before. I had to put my head around the fact that I HAVE to eat slower and take smaller bites. Again I knew that but wasn't really doing it. The light came on for me! For me at least, until I was in the green zone I didn't get it. It has taken 9 months to get to this point. My confidence is back, I'm losing weight like I thought I would. Better late than never I guess.

NorCal Bansters? Butte/Shasta County?

I could be wrong Beck but I think maybe I meet you at your job when I had my surgery. (You showed me your scars).? -
Wow, I saw crazycatladys post and thought I wrote it. Its amazing what 1 fill can do. I felt exactly the same as you catlady and after my last fill things changed drastically. I finally feel what I should feel. It took 5 months of no weight loss to get to this point. Don't give up. I too had food getting stuck. I think that happens because you need to be a little tighter.

Do you burp more now that you are banded? (non-productive, just air)

I was banded in May and its taken me 4 fills to really start losing weight. The doctor said I had to be patient, that it would happen and he was right! I'm feeling strong and in control right now. Losing weight steadily. I have to laugh at myself. I had really been counting on a 2 lb a week loss. Even writing it on the calendar. (I need a new calendar). I have started losing at least 2 lbs a week but only recently. Anyway, good luck to everyone. -
I'll bet you are excited. By now you have had your surgery. My surgery was May 5 of this year. I've been losing slowly. I've had 4 fills and this last one is the one that changed everything. I had been thinking I had made a mistake but HURRAY!! When I go to the doctors office I look at the poster on the wall that has the information about getting to the green zone. That poster helped keep me from being discouraged. By the way, I know of another lap bander from Chico who lost without any fills, and quite a bit. Who knows how you will do. Good luck!

My 5 day post-op story (short version)
sandyt56 replied to boredryu's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my lapband placed on May 5, 2008. I've been continuing the liquid meals. Tomorrow I need to start adding soft foods. I'm almost afraid to start. I don't know if I have any restriction right now or not. When I swallow my liquid drink I feel like I need to burp. Is that the feeling I get with restriction? -
this is the first time I've posted on this website. I'm set for surgery on May 5th. I too am 35% BMI and the reason I'm doing the lapband surgery is I've lost and gained weight my whole life. I'm 51, and in good health otherwise. I have planned to only take 1 week off from work. I work at a desk but I'm up and down alot. Is a week what most people do?
