Intense pain in upper back
Wholenewme replied to SandyB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sandy, I've had this sensation before-about a week after my last fill (banded in April-08) just now feeling restriction. How are you doing, now? What did your Dr. say was the problem? -
Can't stop eating!
Wholenewme replied to okpunkinpie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 4-22 and have had one fill (at about 4 wks post-op). I'm the same way - I feel like I can eat anything and any amount I'd like - if I'd allow myself to. I don't feel any restrictions (pouch wise) at all = it's like I didn't even have surgery. I'm looking forward to my next fill because surely they have to may it tighter!?! -
Went in for my Post-Op Appt today and got a fill~!
Wholenewme replied to CaliGirl626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on 4-22 and had my first fill the end of May. The fill itself was a breeze. The problem is I still don't feel any restriction at all. I feel as if I can basically eat anything, in any quantity. I don't go back until the end of June. The weight loss for me has been VERY slow. I get easily bummed out, so I'm hoping for great things after my next fill! -
I was just banded on 4-22-08. The surgery went well and I'm home recovering. I was called on a Thursday and scheduled for surgery the following Tuesday, so I wasn't on the 2 week pre-op diet like most banders. On surgery day I weighed 225. I'm 5'4" and 39 years old. I'm wanting to lose 100 lbs in 1 year - maybe a little agressive, and, who knows, maybe as I go along 80 or 90 lbs wil look good OFF me! Love to hear from anyone - tips, suggestions, comments, your success stories - whatever!

The name of the protein powder I am using is GR2 (google online). I did get other info from another bander who uses a powder called Unjury. I googled it and it sounds as good or maybe better than what I'm using AND it's about 1/2 the cost!!! I'm going to ask my doctor which he thinks is best. Oh...and that other bander also said that there is some sort of protein drink (not sure if it's water or what) found at WalMart called 'Fortress', but I don't have any other info on that. Wishing you the best of luck as you move towards your surgery date!

Hi! I underwent Lap Band surgery on 4-22-08. The surgery went well and I'm recovering nicely at home. I've heard that some people return to work amost immediately after surgery, but they must be alot younger and heartier than I! Anyway, I'm hoping to hear from others about their banding experience, tips, suggestions, etc. I'm especially interested in how much weight you've lost in what period of time and how many fills everyone has had. Thanks for sharing!

How funny:biggrin2:! This afternoon was my first 'bathroom victory' since surgery. too. My husband laughed at me because I called him on his cell phone to tell him! What all have you tried (other than the norm in clear liquids)? I had cream of potato soup today and I did ok with that.

Thanks for replying, COSkinnygirl! I'm glad you're doing well, too! Are you tired of broth, yet (lol)? Do you anticipate returning to work (assuming you work outside your home) w/i a week or so?

Hi, all! I'm feeling suprisingly well for the top of my 4th day out of surgery. I'm gaining more stamina and mobility each day. Right after I woke up I felt fine. In fact, I woke up with a smile on my face! :frown3: My first wave of nausea hit me when I tried to walk to the bathroom and then for the first 8-12 hours after that. I dry-heaved several times so they gave me something to prevent the nausea. By the first morning after the surgery, the nausea was gone. I had trouble sleeping the first night, but mostly because the nurses were constantly waking me to check vitals, get me up walking, go to the bathroom, etc. I'm a 'tummy sleeper' so having to sleep on my back because I'm too tender to even turn on my side is quite a challenge. I have taken the Vicoden at night at 1/2 the dose to help me get to sleep. I truly have not had what I would call 'pain' as such. It is more like just an uncomfortable feeling you have when you've pulled or have sore muscles in your abdominal area. I've been pretty lucky with the gas. Before surgery I hardly every experienced gas or constipation :grouphug:, and so far I've not had much gas and no constipation (but no bm, either):confused2:... I have had a couple of instances of discomfort in my shoulder, but I've read that this sensation is associated with the gas from the surgery. I've definitely had that 'rumbling' like mama59 mentioned and the hunger pains, as well. But sometimes with all that going on inside, I have trouble deciding what is what! Anyway, I have a great protein powder (nutritionally speaking) and it doesn't taste awful, either. I took my first shower since surgery this morning and took the patches off. The incisions are still covered by the steri-strips. I go for my 1 week post-op follow up on Tuesday. I think I'll try to go back to work Wednesday (8 days after surgery) My job is sedentary, as well, but I, too am worried about what to wear that will be comfortable? I'm anxious to see what the doc's scales say on Tuesday! Looking forward to hearing about everyone's progress! BTW - I don't know how to activate the 'ticker', either....

Hi! I was thrilled to hear from mama59 and phwmn who both were banded on or near my same surgery date! We can go this thing together, huh? I, too, had trouble sleeping the first night, but mostly because the nurses were constantly waking me to check vitals, get me up walking, go to the bathroom,etc.:rolleyes2: I'm a 'tummy sleeper' so having to sleep on my back because I'm too tender to even turn on my side is quite a challenge. I didn't have the 2 week pre-op liquid diet thing because my surgery was scheduled kind of last minute, so I only had 2 days on clear liquids. But, from the time of all the blood tests, ekg and echo, I lost about 12 lbs. I had surgery at 225. I'm anxious to see what the doc's scales say on Tuesday! By the way, I'm 39, about 5'4", mother of 2 (18 & 6) and an office manager. My goal is to lose 100 lbs, however, I'll re-evaluate that based on how I look and feel when I'm down 80 or 90 lbs! Looking forward to hearing about your progress!

I'm new to this site and blogging, so forgive me if I'm not doing this correctly. Jeannie1976 indicated she's lost 75 lbs - that's fantastic! I'm curious - how long have you been banded?

Six Days Banded
Wholenewme commented on 88KEYZ's blog entry in Today I Was Approved For Lap-Band Surgery
Congratulations! You've done a very brave thing! I'm curious as to why you were approved for surgery out of the country and not w/i the United States? I'm also curious to whom you go to for your 1 week post-op followup and subsequent fills? -
Kudos to Abby. It seems that you've found your way to get over your love affair/addiction with food. I want to do the same, I WILL do the same - somehow. Like amallis77 said, "whatever - I have to do this". I'm on my 3rd full day post-op and I'm more mad at myself than mad at food. How could I have let myself become so dependent, so weak, so undisciplined? Anyway, I'm going to put all that behind me and figure out how to 'no longer be dependent, weak and undisciplined when it comes to eating the wrong things. Good luck, Abby!

I'm very new to all this, as well. I'm only on my 3rd full day post-op. But, a great protein powder (GR2) was suggested to me by a nurse at my surgeon's office. I ordered it (and received it w/i 2 days) and it fills the requirements nicely. I ordered it from: Linda Mailen. Her email is: healthtlc@comcast.net I think you can find info on GR2 on the internet. I've also tried the Special K Protein water and it is fairly tasty, a great way to pickup some protein, however, not nearly the amount of protein as the powder. Hopes this helps.
