    Highs and lows of 08-08-08

I will start with the lows and end on a positive note with the highs of today. Lows for today – My port hurts today and it has not hurt all week. I had to spend 80 bucks on a computer bag with wheels so that I can transport by crap back to work on Monday. I needed to get a new cordless phone and I bought one with out an answering machine so I have to go back and return it. That is what I get for going with the cheapest option. Now for the Highs – I am a week post –op and I have lost 27 pounds so far – 5.8 lbs this week. I started on full liquids today and I love it. I had a ½ cup of potato soup for breakfast and lunch and I feel full and satisfied. I ate the breakfast portion at 9:30 and didn’t get hungry until 2:00. That is a record for me. I got a $50 check from the hospital. I paid $50 when I did all my pre-op testing and I guess the insurance company paid the bill in full. I am looking forward to the Olympic open ceremonies toady and a member of this board, Lanakila, will visit me tomorrow. I am also looking forward to the cooler weather here in the Carolinas

    Tell Us About You!

Hey everybody I was banded on August 1 and I am doing great. I have been heavy for as long as I can remember looking in the mirror at myself. I come for a family of heavy women on both sides, seriously they are all over 250 lbs. I have been married for almost 7 years and I have a daughter who will be 4 in September. I also have a dog who is my walking buddy. I work in the International Logistics department for a major pharmaceutical and agricultural company. I have been there 10 years and I love my job. I can't wait until I can shop in the "normal" department in stores, ride a bike with my daughter, and to be a healthier me.

    Who's Getting Banded in August???

I had a lot of bruising around my port incisions and still do. I think it is pretty normal.

    Emotional Eating

Recovery is going well. The clear liquid diet was hard and boring but I toughed it out and made it through. I am now on full liquids and I am feeling full with just a small amount of food and it is lasting about 3 hours. I know am still swollen and healing on the inside, but I feel great. I had very little pain after waking up from surgery. So far, it has not been that bad. I return to work this week so we will see how that goes:cool2:.

    Started Preop!!

I can't believe you are laying concrete while on a liquid diet - I am pretty sure I would have passed out. Good exercise!

    i think i made a mistake!

Make an appointment with your surgeon and tell them what is happening. There is a reason why the scale is not moving. It could be a combination of things - if you are hardly eating your might need to eat more. Your body needs calories to burn calories. You also have to exercise and track your food. You might be getting a lot sodium and that may lead to retaining water. Talk to your surgeon and figure out your next plan of attack. You can do! it:thumbup:

    can definitely eat more today

This morning I also woke up feeling awesome. I went for my walk and I was straving by the time I got home. I am still on full liquids so I am a little limited in the food area. Stay active and watching our protion sizes will help us until we get to our sweet spots. Roheryn - I am sorry you are in liquid hell. Just keep your chin up - brighter days are ahead.
  10. I was told that I needed to be as healthy as I can be before surgery. you don't want your body fighting something and you have a ton of healing to do with the band. Your surgeon will make the decison if you are healthy enough to do surgery. In the meantime, I would run to the drugstore and get some of that Ziacam stuff. It is supposed to make cold shorter. Good luck.

    Emotional Eating

JDUB0414 - 41 pounds in 4 month is great and you should be estatic that you are working with your band. That 41 pounds equates to 2 pounds a week and that is what is expected of bandsters. Stress is a triger for me and I just have to learn to redirect my head when that happens. It is not easy but it is a habit that I am determined to break. It's hard work but we will get there.

    Yes! I'm done!!!

I went to the grocery store during my lunch hour before I had lunch and I was able to cruise on through the store without impulse buying junk. I also didn't get hungry until 2:00 and I ate breakfast at 9:00. It is a wonderful thing not to think about food 24/7 - I love my band:wub:

    Gas, Gas and more Gas

You gals might want to try the protein "bullets". It is a product by New Whey and it like a jello shot in a tube. There is the 25 or 42 grames of protein in each and they come in fruit punch, grape and some other tolerable flavors. I mix mine with a crystal light and some water and it a a great way to get my protein and water intake in. I do recommend that you half the 42 gram one since most experts agree that you can only absorb about 20-25 grams at a time. Good luck!
  14. Leslie2Lose - Thanks so much for the information. Many of us newbies really do rely on the veterns to guide us throught the tough times.

    Paying Attention: My New Obsession

I have done the same thing from the moment I made the choice to get banded. I have to restrain my self from making snickering comments under my breathe.

What do i need after Surgery?

Gas X strips are a must. Gauze pads in case you need to cover any incisions. Protein in a form you can easily drink and tolerate - for me it is the protein bullets mixed with Crystal Lite. Good Luck with your upcoming surgery.
  23. Claudine1975

    Yes! I'm done!!!

Congratulations on becoming a bandster!! Walking does help and sleeping will get better and better each day.

    Question About Anthestia

I had a worry of being put under also. My fear was waking up during surgery. I was wheeled into the operating room at 8:42 and then I woke around 11:00 and no memory of the surgery. Relax you will be fine.

    Fantasy Football Anyone?

Lanakila - I will join you. I love football. I grew up in NYC so I am a Giants fan per se. I don't follow the players as much. I just love watching games.
