Thanks so much Gwen!! You have I now have a better attitude about getting the band and making it work for me. I do want a slow weight loss. Fast weight loss for me would be way too much change all at once and it would be hard to maintainif I have not developed good eating habits.

My physc recommended me to start tracking my calories. I was surprised. I am 5"3' and weigh 276 and have been consume 900 - 1400 calories and excersing my buns off 4 days a week with no weight loss. Therefore I am willing to get the band to see if that will no what no diet has done. I wonder how many calories people were consuming before the surgery and after the surgery.

What about the powder version of Isopure?

I have had to pay for my nutritionist and physc vists because they are out of network. Did any of you have to pay for the Bloodwork, EKG, and Upper GI testing? If so, how much should I expect to cost?

How often do you weigh yourself??
Claudine1975 replied to OceanGal's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I never weighed myself until my scale landed in my cart at Wal-Mart and it calls my name every single morning and night. I think if I could bring it to work and no one notice I would. I never weighed myself until I brought the dang thing into my house and now I can't get off it. I have not been banded but I know it is best to weigh only once a week. I will try....maybe next year...since I will be already losing weight. -
Hi Cryst11 - I surprised myself and lost 4 pounds before my weigh in with Dr. Enochs and my BMI was an even 49. Just under the limit for BCBS. So I might all the other requirements (5 year weight history, over 18, no endocrine disorders etc). Angelica, the insurance person, at Dr. Enochs office said she need by bloodwork, pyhsc and nutrion visits to be completed before she submits for insurance approval. She said it would take about 1-2 weeks to hear back and then 1-2 weeks from then to schedule surgery. My biggest dilemma is that me and some friends are going to the beach on July26 and I want to have one last party before being banded. I am praying hard for insurance approval and a surgery date after July 26.

Phychologists in Raleigh NC

Hey Mellisa I assume you got the handbook from Dr. Enoch's office. I was not thrilled with the choices at all. But, when I finally did get a call back from the office in Wake Forest, her name was Lisa from Innovative Theraphy and she has had the lap band herself. She gave me the number of the scheduler (why that number is not in the book to begin with was a mystery to me). I have a June 4th with her associate Wendy and her sister has had the lap band. Lisa told me over the phone that she would bump my appt up if i have all my other appts and the physc is the last one. But my last appt is the bloodwork at Rex on June 17. Let me know if you want the scheduler's number to the Wake Forest office. The other office was in the process of moving and I could not get seen until the end of June. -
I have a heart murmur Does this matter?
Claudine1975 replied to yellowroseaz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor noticed a heart murmur last yeart and not any years before. I had a sonogram a year ago and they never really said much. I just worried about all the appts I am having before the surgery. I have not told anybody at work what is going. -

Does everyone that has a heart murmur have to do a stress test? -
I hear a little of people talking about protein powder and/or shakes. What kind do you use? What taste the best and where do you get it from?
-
cryst11 - I am seeing Dr Enochs in Cary also. My BCBS will accept BMI's 35-40 with no co-morbidities. Over 40 - 49 will be accept with no com – morbidities. My plan also does not require any diets prior to surgery. The best thing for you to do is call your insurance company and ask for them to send you a copy of your policy concerning the lap band. This way you at least have an idea of what the cover and what is required. Good Luck!

Hey Marie1234 I loved Dr Enochs and his staff they were all friendly and helpful. I had my first appt with the Dr and I have all my appts scheduled. I am hoping for surgery sometime in July. Keep me posted in your progress with Dr Enochs.

Gel (solar) nails during surgery
Claudine1975 replied to Claudine1975's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am glad to here that I don't have to remove my nails before surgery. I have the gel - I used to get the pink cream buffed. I like them both. -
Gel (solar) nails during surgery

I have my nails done in the pink and white gel nails. Do I have to have them taken off before Surgery? -
I went to my 1st appt with Dr. Enochs office in Cary and found out the lap band cost is about $18,000 - $20,000 plus $1,000 for a years worth of fills. I sure do hope my insurance covers this.
-
I had my appt yesterday and I really liked Dr. Enochs. He took his time with me and answered a ton of questions. The insurance lady was very nice also. They quoted me a price of $18,000 - $20,000 and another $1000 for the first year of fills. I am hoping BCBS will cover me. If not - I will drain my savings and just make it up for all the food I won't be eating after banding
-
Did you have to have a certain BMI? Did the approval process go pretty fast with his office. It seems like once you make the choice to get banded - you can't wait.
-
Please keep me posted. I have not been banded yet and I would love some help on some great recipes. - Thanks

10 more days until my initial consult with Dr. Enochs. I have faxed all the paperwork to the office and my 5 year weight history came from my OB/GYN. I really hope they have all the paperwork. I never have been so excited to get surgery. I have been trying to intake my water and protein in my diet.:bored: I am trying to lose some weight before the consult because my insurance, BCBS will only accept the lap band if you have a BMI of under 50. I am right on the borderline. If you have a BMI over 50 my insurance wants you the have the gastric by-pass. I don’t really want to go that right. I am stepping up my Curves :w00t:workout and not eating many sweets:sneaky:. I don’t have a scale at home and I am thinking about getting one. I never had a scale in the house growing up. My mom is overweight, her mother is overweight and my great grandmother was overweight. See a pattern. For now, I am trying to patient and pray everyday that I get approved for surgery.

I would like a copy of the cookbook also. What do I need to do?

My journey has begun. I went to my initial consultation with Dr. Enochs today and he was very pleasant and easy to talk to. My BMI is 49  yeah because BCBS will not approve the lap band for a BMI 50 and over. He said that I will lose 100 over 2 years:lol:. Oh by the way, I lost 4 pounds since the dreaded day the scale entered the house:biggrin:. I have cut out the after dinner snacking and try to limit my carbs:angry:. I have bought a ton of sugar free Jello and do like that if I need to snack. I am drinking a minimum of 60 oz of water and going to Curves Mon – Thurs. I know I am on the right track to weight loss. I don’t want to get derailed again. I was sent home with a informational booklet and I was reading the nutritional and eating information aloud to my husband. He asked was that forever!!! I said this is a permanent lifestyle change and yes it is forever.

I am going to have my first appt Tuesday with Dr. Enochs in Cary. I am planning on asking how much will it be if I self pay and if that includes any fills. I will keep you posted

I bought a scale today – :ohmy:for the first time. I decided to really track my weight loss and gains. I was totally shocked that I weigh the exact same since 3 weeks ago. :smile2: I have been on Slim fast and eating Lean Cuisines at lunch and I cut the snacking out. No weight loss. :cursing:I am pretty disappointed with that. I am even more disappointed that my BMI is 49.6. If it goes to 50 or above BCBS will not cover the lap band and cover gastric by pass instead. According to them the lap band will not be enough to loss the excess weight. I am terrified of the bypass and don’t want to loss weight fast. Urgh… I can only hope the doctor’s scale on Tuesday (my initial consultation) is right on track with my new one and he rounds the BMI down. Or maybe I will lose a pound…yeah right. I am sure I will be stressing about it all weekend long. :cursing:
