I was banded by Dr. Del La Garza in Monterrey, Mx 2/3/2006 along with 3 other ladies on that date I've kept up with the other two, but have not been able to get in touch with Cindy. She is a Cardiac nurse in Orlando...I don't remember which hospital. Cindy, I think of you often and would love to know how you are doing. I have some great pics of us to email to you. Tammy

Okay, I'm giving myself a bump in the hopes that someone will see it and respond. Anyone?

Home same day or overnight in hospital?
Tamyrn replied to GE Mom's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had mine done in Monterrey, Mx. one night in the hospital then to the hotel (a floor of the hospital) one night, home the next day. Ask your Doc why he thinks you may need the ICU overnight, there were four of us the day I got my band and one lady went to the ICU overnight. She was a day behind us in the schedule above. -
Sharing our pre-band experiences and emotions
Tamyrn replied to Koala's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You go girls! You're both going to do great, I had my band placed in Mx. as well Koala. The Doctor (Del La Garza) and nursing staff were wonderful and I bet yours will be too. Good luck and Good losin' ladies. Tammy -
I enjoyed the book and it is very close to what my surgeon says, "Eat small quantities of high quality food three times daily, no snacks. Walk daily." It makes sense.

I saw HW Jr. in concert about a decade ago, he brought a 12 pk of beer on stage with him and was already so drunk when he got there that he couldn't finish a song. We sat through 3 unfinished songs before we left...Travis Tritt was on the same bill, I had not been a fan until I saw him live and I do mean LIVE! He worked for ever dollar he made that night...still don't like much of his music, but hearing his voice makes me smile.

I love it! This is a national health crisis and the idea of raising money for research appeals to me as an overweight woman as well as a nurse. I'm in. Do we form a team like "relay for life" or will we simply choose a place to meet and then walk together?

I'd go to my PCP and take a food diary ( a week or so), you surgeon will probably have a nutritionist on staff so why waste time finding one you will only go to once. Your PCP is going to evaluate your diet...i.e. You need more fruits/veggies in your diet or you don't take in enough protien daily or you don't appear to have a good source of calcium in you diet do you take a supplement? It's not a big deal and will probably be quiet informative. I was private pay so I didn't have to jump through any hoops. Good luck. Tammy

MollyMolly, What an awesome explaination...I'm eating a small baked potato and tiny salad as I read your post and it all makes more sense now. Thank you. Tammy

HAZELNUT TREE (Extraordinary) -- charming, sense of humor, very demanding but can also be very understanding, knows how to make a lasting impression, active fighter for social causes and politics, popular, quite moody, sexually oriente d, honest, a perfectionist, has a precise sense of judgment and expects complete fairness. How fun...Thanks Donna

Did anyone take Prophylactic Antacid like Prevacid?
Tamyrn replied to 3loves's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I take prevacid before I go eat Mexican food, other than that I don't seem to have a problem with heartburn. -
Hi Julie, I gain 4.5 lbs on vacation last week...Yes, I think it's because we taken so few calories after being banded. The good news is weight gained quickly will generally come back off quickly if you do it ASAP after the gain.

What will you do with your underwear??
Tamyrn replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Great question...I'm still wearing them and they come up to my armpits! Guess I'll be tossing those out now. -
Arlene, Are you returning to Mx. for your fills or doing them in Houston? You've done so great with your band...I can't wait to be in "Onederland".
-
I've had two fills, after the second I could only eat a few bites of anything...there was no pattern to what would cause a PB. That's been 5 weeks and now I can eat small portions of anything except soft breads. I wish I could keep my band at this spot all the time.

How soon after surgery did you feel hungry?
Tamyrn replied to div95008's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been banded about 5 months and I will never forget the frustration of being hungry for the first 2 weeks (liquid phase) fear kept me from cheating and it was ALL worth it. Try warm broth, the warmth makes you feel full. Good luck. Tammy -
Good Morning! It's 40 lbs today! YEA ME!!!
-
I'm 5'10" and I was comfortable in my skin at 150 lbs., I want to be there again.

Are you dieting after banding? If so which one?
Tamyrn replied to stella's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do count calorie from time to time when my weight loss slows to a crawl or stops. Sometimes I find I'm not getting enough calories (1000 to 1200 daily) and sometimes I find I am eating too many. I move back toward enough healthy choices to crank up the weight loss and I stop counting until I hit another slow down. -
Nanster, I'm reading your last 2 post and it feels like you are copying the pages of my journal. I would love to eat just a few bites of a juicy hambuger with mayo, you know how the bun gets a little soggy from the mayo and veggies...Not gonna happen. All the PBing is scaring me to death, I don't want to lose my band even when I'm whining about what I can't eat I have to admit I love my band. There is no way I could have stuck with a diet well enough to lose 38.5 lbs. in 5 months without my friend the band. I'm planning to move to 5 small meals a day today, I find myself getting way to hungry between meals if I stop with the "soft stop", or PBing if I wait a few minutes and then continue to eat. So, I will come up with some menus stretching my 1000 to 1200 calories over 5 to 6 small meals daily. Exercise...It's sooo hot outside! I know I have to start...soon. I miss you all, my friends from the beginning...check in and let us know how you are doing. Tammy

Want to hear it again? Protien, also think about counting calories to make sure you are getting enough, I was shocked at how few I was getting initially. Are you taking a multivitamin? Centrum makes a chewable one, it's a good idea for anyone, but a great idea for us.
-
Janey, I hate to give you a non-answer, but the band will tell you how much to eat and it will change from meal to meal and from day to day. As I write this I have eaten 1 & 1/2 pieces of bacon and 2 bites of toast...I'm feeling about done for breakfast, yesterday I ate 2 pieces of bacon and 1/2 piece of toast before feeling this full. You are going to do great...eat slowly and go with how you feel, it's a whole new way of eating. I believe it's how naturally thin people live.

Morning Gracie, Some questions: 1) Is your mother overweight? If so, the surgery will be a huge hot button for her and there could be some jealous. 2) Do you come from money dear? If not, there is still a "cosmetic surgery is only for the wealthy" stigma out there. Wait, I know this is not a cosmetic surgery per say, it's about your health but an awful lot of folks who are not having this surgery think of it as cosmetic. 3) Does your mother often brag on you and your siblings? If so, she could be doing some bragging about your surgery (see #2). 4) Does your mother like to be the center of attention? See 2 & 3. 5) Is your mother normally negative or is she just a worrier? I feel your pain girl, it's not that I didn't want people to know as much as I wanted to choose who I told, but between my mother and my 21yr old step-daughter I swear everybody who has ever met me or either of them knows my business...If you fix it let me know how. Good luck with your surgery and remember the surgery is for and about you...Your mother is dealing with her own stuff and using your experiences to do it, that's about her not you. Tammy

Liza Gibbons did thing on E! one time about skinny actresses, she called them "Lollipops"...I loved it. Call me crazy, but I think Sophia Loren is the most beautiful actress ever in all of her curvy glory...Marilyn Monroe was pretty hot too.
