I'll just back away quietly from that one :-P This is so true. I'm quickly discovering that whilst a portion of chicken breast might fill me up very quickly so that I remember "oh yes, hello stomach the size of a small peach", crap slider food is still the devil. My bypass isn't going to stop me putting it in my mouth, only I can do that! Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

Honestly, I do wonder if I've actually had a bypass coz life has got back to normal really quickly for me. I'm eating smaller portions but other than that the surgeon could have taken all my insides out and replaced them with straw stuffing and I wouldn't know! Oh man, that sounds like my cup of tea. In another life, I'd love to put books, magazines, newspapers together! When I was in student groups many moons ago, I was always the one putting newsletters and brochures together! Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app -

He might feel like it's a parent wanting their kid's pass code. I know if he has yours that's fair enough, but noone wants to feel like they're being watched to make sure they don't trip up. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app -
I'm Aussie so my chilli recipe will be heretical but that's ok. Get this, I put a carrot, a zuchinni, a capsicum in the blender and chop it up. That goes in the chili after browning the onions. I use mince/ground beef, and the spices I use are cumin, Paprika, cayenne pepper, chilli, cinnamon, oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and seasoning salt. Oh and definitely a can of chopped tomatoes, mushrooms, and two cans of kidney beans. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

It's a BIG DEAL for our minds, bodies and spirits to process this journey. I went up and down particularly immediately before and after the actual surgery but I keep telling myself on a bad day that statistically-speaking, tomorrow is likely to be better (my daughter hates it when I say that). Be kind to yourself if you're having A Moment. Try and find something pleasurable to do (read a book, take a bath, stare at the birdies out the window). With hardship comes ease. Not feeling full - can eat a “normal” size portion
ummyasmin replied to Pink nova's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm having to relearn about portions and satiety because my bypass is WAY different to my old lapband. With the former, if it was too loose I could and craved eating normal and bigger sized portions, steak etc. But too tight and I could only eat slider food and was throwing up all the time. Now with my bypass pouch I don't have the lapband "hard stop" and I feel like I could eat more, BUT if I make myself eat much slower and make sure I eat good quality protein, I get satiety in about twenty to thirty minutes. Its not fullness eg oh my gosh I'm stuffed, it's more just a pleasant sense of having eaten to general satisfaction and I don't have to eat now for a while. It's a much quieter voice so I have to actively listen for it, but it's so much better. So I measure my food and I have about 5-6 oz of squishier protein/meal eg Shelley's Ricotta Bake with a bit of chicken added in (now I can) and take it REAL slow. If I'm still looking for something after that I have about 15g nuts b/c I know that will give me satiety. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app -
gastroparesis and possible band removal

I can't figure out the American measurements but I had a checkup with full bloods three wks after my surgery and I had a perfectly normal workup. I'm averaging 5.2 for my Hb1ac which is a normal person's and my morning blood sugars are anywhere between 4.3 and 5.5 which is fantabulous. I'm off all diabetes meds now and my endo is planning to discharge me back to my GP it's so good. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

gastroparesis and possible band removal

Yep, band to mini-gastric bypass here. My band sprung a leak after the first fill and sadly never worked for me. Wish I'd revised years ago. Mind you it worked brilliantly for Bandedwendy on Youtube. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app -

Looking back I had a bit of a freak out before my bypass, even though I've already been down the bariatric surgery route before (with a lapband in 2009). Now, a month later things are so much better and I really do wish I'd done this years ago. But, the Irish have a saying: "what's for you, won't pass you by". If now is the right time, you will get through this difficult stage, but if you're just not ready, then take a breather and reassess why you want /need the surgery, and if you're ready to change your relationship with food and with your body.
