  1. I was told my nutritionist, that drinking protein drinks the first year can really help the weight come off, as people are not getting enough protein from meat and eggs alone. I plan on staying on my protein drinks as long as possible! Sassy

    Any January Sleevers?

I was just scheduled for Jan 12th! I am a self payer and do not have to do the Dr. dance, no psych, no heart test, nothing~! Just show up at 7:30 am date of surgery after having followed a full liquid diet a week before and a clear liquid diet for the last 12 hours. The Dr office even gave me a ton of sample of Protein shakes, from all over the place. Like unjury, Bariatric Advantage, and some unflavored protein too so I can try them all. I think I may try a couple but leave the rest till after the surgery because I hear your taste changes a lot after surgery. What is everyone bringing to the hospital? I have to go alone as my husband has to stay home with the kids. He'll just be my driver. I'm thinking of bringing my: sippy cup so I can remember to sip sip sip and not gulp. My kindle so I can read when I cannot sleep Comfortable clothes, although everything is so tight on me now....I want to buy a comfy outfit to wear out of the hospital but know I never use it again in that size. My daily medicine and my pills already cut up for easier swallowing. Possibly my cell phone and ipod (I don't want these stole though and like I said, I'll be there alone with no one to watch my stuff. Can anyone else think of things to bring.... ????
  3. Thanks everyone, Your responses made me feel much more comfortable about the surgery and who I will tell. I'm glad others feel the same way and have now told me how they'd handle the situation. WIsh me luck! My initial Dr. appointment is tonight, expected to be sleeved in January~!
  4. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/10673-any-january-sleevers/ Try this thread above! I'm a January sleever, no date set yet, but I go on Wed. for my initial appt and they said the surgery will take place within 3-4 weeks.

  8. Any other self paying people out there? My insurance doesn't cover it and my husband and I both want me to have this surgery. Wondering if I have to go through all the same testing that some insurance companies make you do?
  9. HI, If you have lost an average of 100 lbs, would you please tell me if you have had the problem of loose, wrinkly, sagging skin? Also any suggestions for preventing this? I have about 100 lbs to lose and I am worried about this. Thanks,
  10. Just curious to what the Plication is? Been seeing ads about it on this site and never heard of it before...
  11. ok, anyone know the pros and cons of plication? Thanks
  12. I don't think they can do the surgeries at the same time... my sleeve surgery is self pay and only performed at a specialized hospital. I thought of that too already. I don't have a surgery date yet for the sleeve but was told on the phone I could get it done in January... and I'd really like to done as soon as possible.

    Any January Sleevers?

Hi, I have my first Dr. meeting on Dec. 1st and they said I could have the surgery in as early as 3-4 weeks... so that puts me in January too. I'm researching the heck out of this surgery. Little nervous about getting my proteins in, never been good at liking protein drinks and the sound of pureeing my meats gives me the quivers too, anyone else have any nerves about about anything? I am so excited about this forum and the surgery. I am definitely ready to have it and give it 100%.
  14. HI, I would love a pdf version if not too much trouble for you! Amazing (scary) diet guide I'm in my researching phase and love this forum! Thanks ever so much amypep@comcast.net

  18. Are any foods off limits for life with the lap band? Like in gastric bypass surgery you can have no sugar, no carbonation, no alcohol. Amy
  19. Hi, just found out that after my first fill the cost of all other fills will be $500. each time. Thought that was extremely high. That are others paying for fills. Insurance won't pay for my fills. Thanks:eek:
  20. Could please list what you ate as your mushies please?
  21. Self pay HOW MUCH is it all together??? For the surgery, the person you knocks you out, etc. I live in Ft Myers FL if that helps Amy
  22. I'm looking into lap band surgery but I only have a BMI of 38. Insurance will only cover if I have BMI of 40, hence a difference of 10 pounds. I'm on my 6 month insurance recommended diet. My Dr says I'm crazy to gain weight just for the surgery.... but I really want it. What do you all think?
