I boiled a bit of cauliflower and a 1/2 onion in some chicken broth (just enough to cover it) for about 7 minutes until it was all soft. Then I pureed it with a touch of non fat milk so it was a thick soup consistency. While it was still hot I threw in about a tablespoon of the dried parmesan you get in a shaker and pureed that in. It was delicious! I've also boiled a leek and a couple of potatoes in broth until they're all soft. Puree with the broth and add pepper and maybe a bit of milk to thin. That was nice too.

I'm so glad it's not just me who cannot tolerate the protein drinks. Just the thought of drinking that gluggy thick shake makes me nauseous. I'm buying high protein yogurt and still drinking Sustagen Hospital formula for breakfast so I get at least 30g protein a day. I think tomorrow I should be able to go to soft foods. Yay!! I am so looking forward to an egg with some mayo mashed up. And a small tin of tuna with some mayo for dinner instead of cream of wheat or pureed vegetables. Mind you, I've made some really tasty soups for the thickened liquids stage.

You have to remember you've just had a major surgical procedure. Your body is going to need time to heal itself and that won't be overnight. I do know how frustrating it is, though. I wanted more than anything to get my veggie garden planted yesterday but after sitting on the edge of the garden bed and putting in 4 cucumber plants I was done!

Yes, a few of us have commented on it. I'm a 26th bypass and it's just now getting better. I usually drift off around 12 or 1 am then up at 5. Last night I managed from 11 pm to 6 this morning.

Not cat napping, but not able to sleep much. I'm yawning and ready for bed at 10 pm, but when I actually lie down and get comfortable it's just tossing and turning for at least an hour, then awake at 5 am. I think tonight I'm going to try having a warm shower before I get into bed and maybe some chamomile tea around 9 instead of water.

You have to do what's best for you. Not what makes your husband or anyone else happy. It took me a very long time in an unhappy marriage to figure that out. I wish you well.

That was me today. We went to get a few groceries and had tea at our favourite cafe. Once we got home though I was exhausted and nauseous. But I'll tell you, a shower and hair washing does wonders to make you feel better, doesn't it?

Nausea after surgery...what is your experience?
MMME replied to MissPoodle's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
The nausea thing just started for me this afternoon. We had gone out to pick up V8 (my new favourite thing) and I had a cup of peppermint green tea. Once we got home I had this huge wave of nausea that I just cannot shake, even with ondansetron. I'm hoping it's just the tea that upset my poor little pouch and that it settles with resumption of water and my other thin liquids. -
Nausea after surgery...what is your experience?

In some states it's the Queen's Birthday holiday. In my state it was last weekend. But who doesn't love a holiday Monday? -
I make pumpkin soup for my partner with the pumpkins I grow. Recipe below: 1 Kent pumpkin (it's a green skinned one) peeled and cubed - use whatever you can get 1 sweet potato peeled and cubed 1 onion diced Water to cover & 1-2 OXO chicken cubes Simmer everything over low heat until very well done and mushy. Let cool to room temperature and then puree with a stick blender until it's smooth. Add about 2 cups of skim milk, a dash of ginger and a small dash of cayenne. Puree again with the blender and reheat before eating. It freezes really well, too.

Protein Powder suggestions PLEASE HELP
MMME replied to Jakesoldlady's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I figured that I will save so much on food (rubbisb I have been feeding myself) that I can afford to buy good quality on proteins. A guy I work with uses RAW brand and he said it tastes good. You may not be able to get it in stores in the US but try online. -
36 hours post op and I feel better than I expected. Shower and brushing teeth were strangely the most wonderful things ever! Only water yesterday but today is 3oz per hour of some variety of fluids. Broth for lunch (what seemed like a huge portion) with apple juice with protein, and 2 other juices. Hope my bypass twins are feeling great too. It's a big decision but I cannot wait to get my health and my life back. I've hidden behind drab ugly clothes for too long. It's time to feel better.

Good luckfor tomorrow. I'm booked for tomorrow as well. I'm nervous but I have a great surgeon and my partner is very supportive.

That's great that you're feeling so well. After having my band removed I remember how great it was to eat without pain or restriction.

Where did/are having your surgery

I'm originally from Burlington Ontario (small world, eh?) but live in Australia. I used to come to Guelph quite often when I was still in Canada. My brother lives up near Walkerton so we would stop for coffee at the half way point. Surgery is booked for next Wednesday, 26 September at Hollywood Private Hospital in Perth Western Australia. -
Thank you. My favourite sister is also 72 and had bypass 5 years ago. She's like a new woman with the weight gone.

I'm Dorothy but the initials are what my last name has been/will be. I've had M as my surname initial 3 times (birth, 2 marriages) but am getting married next year to an E. I'm 55, originally from Canada but have lived in Western Australia for over 12 years. I had a gastric band in 2009 and lost 30 kg then had abdominoplasty/skin removal in 2011 and lost another 5 kg with that. However life got very difficult with several traumatic events and I turned to food as my comfort. Again. I'm now ready to get my life back and hopefully stop some of the chronic pain in my knees and ankles. I have gastric bypass booked on the 26th. I am looking forward to not feeling sweaty and uncomfortable in the 40° heat of a Perth summer. I'm looking most forward to feeling healthy again.

I'm 55 and my arthritis is a killer as well. I work as a typist in a hospital, so I sit for most of my day. I have a timer on my computer that tells me every 90 minutes to get up and stretch my legs. Otherwise the pain is just so awful! I'm getting my surgery same day as you. Good luck with it.

Have you purchased any goal clothing for after surgery?

I'm getting married next October in Hawaii. I currently wear an Australian 20/22 but I'm going to buy my dress while we're visiting Canada in November. In a size 12/14. (I can always get it altered if I need to) -
First post here. I'm booked on 26 September at Hollywood Hospital in Perth Western Australia with Dr Kevin Dolan. I had a Lap-Band in 2009 by him and lost 40 kg (88 lbs) but after a couple of very bad years gained 35 back. I'm excited but nervous at the same time. Pre-op diet started yesterday.
