    Pre-op Diet???

First, Allison I am LAUGHING over your Meatwad avatar...I LOVE IT! As for the liquid diet...UGH!!! I've beenliving off of the Protein shakes and cottage cheese. I keep telling myself "I WILL get used to sf Jello, I WILL get used to sf Jello..." It's not working so far, but hopefully by the time the 14th rolls around I'll be able to handle it. My girlfriend gave me a tip about the broth that's actually pretty good. She said to put a little steak seasoning in it and try it that way. YUMMMMY!!! Too bad my steak seasoning doesn't dissolve in it too well or I'd use it after the surgery too. (I may run and grab a SMALL thing of Lowry's to try...)

    UHC Approved.....

We also have UHC through the railroad. I think they'd accept it. Heck, really the only 5 year history they got from me was something stating that I had tried Weight Watchers for a year, South Beach Diet for almost a year and a few other things. I had NOTHING from a Dr. stating what my diet history was and I got approved. (And my written history was in an email to the coordinator for my surgeon!!!)

Ok am I crazy or what????

I don't think it's the least bit crazy. My Dr. doesn't require me to do a pre-op diet at all because my BMI is under 50. I still started one on Wednesday. (Being banded the 14th.) I asked him about it at my appt and he said to have at it as they're highly considering making it a standard thing at the office anyway.

    80's Trivia

I LOVED Units!!!! I also remember when Express FIRST opened up and they had that Outback Red brand...LOVED that stuff too. lol
  5. That's beyond crappy Helen!!! You'd think that they would look at WOMEN being able to have kids period, not whether or not someone's husband was able to with someone else. Then again, we're not exactly the ones in charge of this stuff are we? Hugs to you and I truly hope everything works out.

    80's Trivia

So was I the only one who looked like a cross between a rocker/Madonna reject/preppie??? rofl. It all depended on the day of the week as to how I dressed. Monday it would be my Guess jeans with the bow at the ankle, my Izod Polo shirt and white Keds with two pairs of socks. Tuesday would be my acid wash Levis with a concert t-shirt that was all cut up and Wednesday could be the Flashdance sweatshirt with the legwarmers...EW!:frown:

    No Alcohol HAIR PRODUCTS?

I was also told NO hair products at all. (Which, to be honest, isn't a problem since I am the ponytail QUEEN and RARELY use anything. lol) I think if you go to your event, then come home and wash your hair you'll be fine. (But that is my unprofessional opinion.)

    looking for support

Sorry I haven't answered you until today. Her weight loss is GREAT! She looks soooo different it's ahrd to believe. She doesn't regret the decision for one second, and that gives me a LOT of hope.
  10. I'm not getting banded until the 14th, but I do have PCOS. If you look under the specialty support groups you will find a PCOS group. I'm feeling pretty good about getting the band over the bypass from reading their posts!

    Excited??

OK, I'm just jealous you're going to Africa!!! Seriously though, I would get it done as soon as you can get more time off from work. Have a GREAT time on that trip!!!!

    Embarrassing Question

HA HA HA!!! I hear you on being nervous. I remember being kinda weirded out about how nakes I was during gall bladder surgery. Then I got pregnant and went into labor. That took care of ANY sense of being shy after that with all the interns that were with my Doctor.

    Good Luck and Blessings!!

I am SO EXCITED for all of us now that our month is FINALLY here. YAY!!! Although, lol, this reminds me of a message board I am still a member of for those of us who were due in the same month and year. I was SUPER JEALOUS of those who had their babies earlier in the month than I did. It's kind of the same feeling. HA HA HA!!! Can't wait to hear about experiences!
  14. KristeyK

Ok. It's officially here. May. Wow.

I'm feeling all the same things you are Tanya. (Thankfully it's mainly excitement...we'll see how I am two weeks from today when it's the night before my surgery.) It's hard to believe that there are already a few that are going to be banded in just a few hours! YAY!

    Pre-op Diet???

Cool! Thanks y'all! I was talking to one of the nurses at the hospital earlier today and she said the pre-op diet is usually for people who's bloodwork comes back high for the liver function and since mine was normal I didn't require one. She did echo all of you though in that if I felt the need to, that it wouldn't be a bad idea to go onthe diet now. I also like the idea of learning how to deal with the demon of "OMG! I can't eat that???" now rather than later.
  16. I have my final consult with my surgeon tomorrow then it's hurry up and wait for th 14th to get here!!! YAY!!!!!! (Did the psych eval a few weeks ago and did the pre-op EKG, chest x-ray and bloodwork earlier today.) Elisia, (BEAUTIFUL name by the way) the best thing you can do to help yourself get rid of some of your fear is to research, research, research, attend a seminar and go to a couple support group meetings. I don't know if your fear will completely go away, but IMHO it's healthy to have a little going into something so major anyway.

    New with PCOS

Hi there! I was dx'd with PCOS about 10 years ago here. I've been on and off Metformin ever since then. UGH. I stopped taking it a month ago when I finally decided I was a go for this. It never really did anything for me anyway unless I was taking fertility meds (like Clomid) to go with it. HATE the stuff!!! If you haven't been on meds yet, I wouldn't worry about it IMHO. As for doing anything different, I'll be looking for the advice of others on that too, especially since I haven't been banded yet.

    New-Anyone else in Tucson?

Oh TOTALLY. I keep forgetting about the support group meetings at the hospital, so it'd be nice to have others to talk to face to face. Where did all the Tucson people go anyway????

    80's Trivia

Just so you know... it is WRONG to see that picture of the Hoff before 6am. EEWWWWW!!!! And, I admit, I didn't read the whole thread, but since I noticed another rocker... QUIET RIOT! Woot! Cum On Feel the Noise....:coolgleamA:
  21. Good Lord are we twins seperated at birth??? ROFLMAO. I've actually thought of doing the Victor/Victoria thing for Halloween before too since I am built like a linebacker.
  22. Hi there y'all!!! I'm Kristey. I have been flip flopping on getting weight loss surgery for a few years now. (Been to several seminars. lol) I was finally getting serious about it and was going to get it done in December of '05, but found out in October that I was pregnant. YAY!!! So obviously I put it off. I've been thinking about it again for the past year, but after trying to get pregnant again and NOTHING working to get my ovaries going again, I decided not to put it off any longer. I got my insurance approval yesterday and am scheduled for my band on May14th. I CANNOT WAIT!!!!! I'm a little nervous about it, but MUCH more excited than scared. I look forward to getting to know y'all!!!

    looking for support

One my REALLY CLOSE girlfriends got banded last June. She said EVERYONE has that fear and it's perfectly normal. However, she said that if you overeat with the band you'll pay for it and it'll be something you won't do again. She said after she got banded the desire to overeat wasn't there anyway and she doesn't miss all the food like she thought she would and that most people are like that.
  24. MY honest opinion would be to do it after your vacation. It's going to be VERY difficult to find what you'll need for your diet at that point in time down there and, well, most airlines are starting to charge to take more than one bag and you'll get charged for having a bag that's too heavy. (And I'm talking some good $$$ there. Minimum of $50.00 for a heavy bag!!! Liquids add up FAST in the weight of a bag.)
