Identity Crisis after dropping 80lbs in 8 months.

I notice people looking at me.... it’s weird. Also, when you’re fat, you’re not ‘competition’ for other women.... This sounds weird, I know. But I’m 37 years old now and have fluctuated from underweight / normal / chubby and obese and EVERY time I’ve been thin, I have had women be HORRIBLE to me. I am 6 weeks post-sleeve and sitting at 75kgs (150 something pounds) and am probably going to reach 60kgs (120lbs) by Christmas. While I am looking forward to it, I’m dreading the bitchiness and competitiveness that always accompanies being thin..... it’s a funny thing really. I’ve never treated thin people badly and can’t understand why women get so insecure around their thinner counterparts... hopefully now that I’m ‘older’ and married it won’t be so bad?? Although I spent the first 4 years of marriage as very thin and it didn’t seem to male a difference. Being big - everyone seems comfortable to talk to you, be around you, introduce you to their friends and partners...... not so much when they are ‘threatened’ by you. This is my experience and I really am dreading going through it again. I’ll just focus on myself and not bother trying to make friends! Lol.

Life is great 1month after surgery. Amazing meals

I’m not able to eat meat.... 6 weeks out here. I chew the crap out of it. Chicken is a bit better than red meat but not much. Hmmm. You are doing so well. I can only manage 1/4 of a scrambled egg. Might get an avocado today :) yum

Banana's Are Slider Food For Me

I get really full from strawberries. Only takes 3 or 4 until I’m ‘done’.... random! Haven’t tried banana yet (6 week’s post op) because I’m told it can worsen constipation. I don’t need anymore of that in my life!!!

Not doing great in pre-op diet

I was pretty bad pre-op. I did cut out alcohol though (was a big drinker). But I had a birthday, kids parties and long work hours where I forgot to take the shakes with me and ended up eating toasted cheese sandwiches! One day I went allll day without eating and ended up eating a burger... I felt terrible so then I had about 5 days where I was ‘good’ pre-op. My surgeon was impressed with my liver (phew). Haha. I lost only a tiny amount of weight which I think was just the cutting out of booze. I also took ‘vegetable’ capsules which are full of antioxidants supposedly good for the liver. Don’t be too hard on yourself. I’m actually glad I gave into my burger craving pre operatively.... it’s a long time until I can have one again! Good luck. You’ll be fine :)
  5. I couldn’t imagine eating meat at three weeks post-op. Ouch! Hope you are better now?
  6. Oohhh yumm. Those beans in olive oil sound amazing! Thanks for the tips. I have eaten as many retried beans as I can handle- I love them, but we need a break from each other hahaha x
  7. It was a powerful doco. Confronting like a slap in the face!! I also watched ‘That Sugar Film’ and several others regarding animals and ethical treatment. If I wasn’t so lazy and the conversion so difficult (I have two fussy kids) I would be vegan!! I try to make small changes..... I know exactly how you feel after watching. :)

Any one go home the same day ?

I’m in Australia; normal stay for a sleeve is 3-5 nights. I stayed 3 nights which was perfect. I needed IV anti-emetics for post-op nausea which prevented me from vomiting. I had IV fluids and antibiotics for 36 hours. You’re supposed to be nil by mouth the first day. That’s a long time to go without fluids including pre-op fasting! No way could I have gone home the same day. I’m amazed that people do this. Does it cost extra for you folks in the USA?? I was out of it from the anaesthetic and analgesia too.... no complications. If you can spend even one night in hospital I would suggest it. Good luck
  9. I’m shocking. I am not a really ‘heavy’ overweight person (87kg was my starting weight- 191lbs) and am now 172lbs or 78kgs. I half-assed my pre-op diet but gave into cravings... I don’t have a dietician and I’m a wine drinking, snack eating pizza and peanut butter fan. Only difference is now I eat 3/4 of a slice instead of an entire pizza!! I need to be more disciplined though or I’ll end up back where I started. I do eat loads of yoghurt... the purée stage is weird because I feel totally fine. To the point where I forget I’ve even had the sleeve done!! I pretty much eat whatever I want but just chew it thoroughly first. That’s still purée, right??!!

    4 months post op--disney??

You’ll be fine! I’m not even even 4 weeks out and I don’t feel like I’ve even had surgery! Have fun. I’m jealous! X
