Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

This thought has crossed my mind. At first I had told no one about my surgery but eventually told a few and word is out. I told my sisters as one could really benefit from the surgery and was asking lots of questions. So I am afraid if I don't tell and she does (though I've asked her not to) that that will make the situation worse. I guess I am a big girl now and mommy can take it or leave it. If I haven't gotten her approval after 50 yrs I ain't never gonna get it!

    Daily News!

Greatlyblessed, you've lost 55 lbs. that's fantastic. I've heard it said more than one time here on the boards, we got bands on our stomachs not our heads. The head hunger is still there and we still need to battle that. sounds like you are doing a good thing with journalling about it. If you follow the 'rules of the tool' (that's what my dr office calls it) then you will continue to lose. And as ou get more fills it should get a little easier but that still doesn't take away the head hunger. I've been lucky, my surgeon is very aggressive with fills, I've had 5 already and that doesn't include the prefill I got in surgery. But I still sometimes don't have the greatest restriction. I'm thinking of getting another at my next visit. Keep up the good work, you will get there.

    I'm here to help...

Good evening. I just got home from my support group too, BeckyO, it was a good group, lots of changes happening though. CathyChatts, nice to see you here, good luck with your surgery. My bladder issues seem to have improved with the weightloss though not perfect. Gail, sorry for the loss of your mom. Well today was an eventful day. My over repair guy came and to fix it was going to cost between $400 and $500 so I said thanks but no thanks. And I went shopping and the new one will be delivered on Friday. I had a tough time deciding. All my appliances are bisque (not my choice came with the house), I so wanted to get black or stainless but then they wouldn't match. I ended up getting the bisque and it was hard to find as it's not too popular anymore. Tomorrow my parents arrive who know nothing of my weight loss or surgery. I'm nervous but think I have my head together now and am not going to let her negativity rain on my weight loss success. How can she argue with 70 lbs and no more blood pressure meds?

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Ah, thanks so much for the encouraging words regarding my mom's visit tomorrow. DH will probably deflect some of it. And who knows I might be pleasantly surprised and she won't be. She has been negative my entire life. I fight hard not to be like that. Sometimes I see tendencies and it scares the crap out of me. I feel awesome about the changes I have made, my kids, my husband and even my sisters have been very supportive so they will all be in my corner. Yvonne, welcome. sorry you got laid off but sounds like you are putting the time to good use!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Good morning! Here I sit waiting for my appliance repair guy. He's due at 930, I am the first appt of the day so they should be on time or early they said. So I got up bright and early to shower etc. as I sure didn't want them to call while I was in the shower. Then I have got to clean, clean, and clean some more. My parents come tomorrow and I know she will find the spot I missed. Am pretty nervous about telling them about my lap band, they have no clue I've had it nor that I've lost weight. But how can she be negative with 70 lbs lost, off b/p medication, etc.?

Apples, I've not seen Kerry in a long time. Have you checked her profile or PM'd her? We had over 300 folks on the June thread who were banded in June, only a few post regularly now, which is why I visit other areas now. Charlene, Ouch. the PB was when it came up. When it was stuck it was just stuck. I have never needed to go on liquids after. Usually once it's up and gone I'm fine. HOpe you are feeling better. I eat chicken but try and stay away from the white meat as it's usually too dry.

JoAnn, Mine is the Nordic Track from Costco that's where I got mine. though the model they have now looks different than mine. It was a great price at the time as I had shopped all over. Mine does have the arm things. I don't use them too much yet but like the option to have them. I use them a minute or two at a time now but as I increase intensity will use them more. Also a treadmill hurts my knee less than outside walking, must be the cushioned deck or something, but still hurts especially when I am done.

Ellen, I was raised the same as you. Felt it was wrong to be proud of myself that it was bragging or showing off. I remember one time in school I asked a teacher to remove the + from the A on my report card as I didn't people to think I was a show off. Be proud of your accomplishments. I am learning to get there too, with my husband and kids it's easy. But like yesterday we went to a family function and I hadn't seem some of them for a month or two so got many comments on my weight and it was hard to take. I just tried a polite thank you and left it at that. I have the bad knees too. I am the opposite of JoAnn in that I have an elliptical and home and do the recumbant at the gym. Definitely get a better workout on the elliptical. Doesn't hurt my knees much. However, when I go to my bariatric exercise class they have one elliptical there that does hurt my knee. Just one and that one has the feet pedals or pads at more of an angle. so definitely try them out in the store before buying one and see which one fits you best. The recombant can hurt sometimes too depending on the seat adjustment but once you know exactly your spot that isn't as much an issue. Also, I find the bike to get boring faster unless I am reading. I can't read on the elliptical too much motion and I am usually sweating too much. LOL Good luck in your choice. Mine is a Nordic Track and I like it a lot. Got a real sturdy one as they weight limits on them were very different on the different models as well and at the time I was tipping the 300 lb mark, but am glad I got the sturdier one and DH uses it too. And I can't remember if you met him as he came to a Dr. Phil with me, he's 6'6 and about 240. And for the first time in many years.....I NOW WEIGH LESS THAN HIM!!!!

    Scared Because of Forum!

How's this?? I got banded 4 mos ago today, I am down a total of 70 lbs. I am off all medications. I can shop in a regular size store. I have more energy than I have had in a long time. People aren't recognizing me. It's the best decision I ever made. Is it easy? no. But very doable. I follow my dr's nutrition info very closely, exercise and go to support groups. Good luck to you!

Must be the weekend for birthdays, I just got home from a party for my FIL. They had cake, pies, ice cream and some apple crisp. It all looked good. but I came away with half a hamburger patty, a spoon of baked Beans and some chips. My weakness is chips. I could turn down all those sweets but not the darn chips. But tomorrow is another day! I'd love to lose 3 this week too, but think I am going to be sitting still for a bit, I always do after having a good loss. Special days come and go, it's what we do the rest of the days that matters most.

    New Milestone at 4mos

70!!!!!!! I actually hit it this morning!! Now I did lose 10 of those between my seminar and surgery, so it's 60 since my surgery on June 5th. Never in my life have I hit the 70 lbs gone mark, I got to 60 twice and somewhere in the 60's but 70 was always elusive to me and never did I keep it off. I'm loving my band! I don't know but I just might make my mini goal of 75 by Halloween (not my final goal). My parents are coming from FL next week to visit and have no idea of the weight loss or the surgery. They will be in for a shock!
  13. Hey June Bugs, Here it is the end of August. Three months ago we were nervous, excited, and anxious about the calendar turning from May to our month, June and our surgeries. So how's it going? There's lots of missing Junebugs that aren't checking in anymore, we were 300+ strong. So come on in and post a little blurb with how band life is going! I just can't believe it'll be 3 mos. for me on Friday. (banded June 5th). I had high hopes and dreams for the band but never in a million years did I think I'd be sitting here 59 lbs lighter 3 mos later (well 49 I lost 10 from May 14th, my consult until surgery). One more pound and I will be at 60 that is unreal. My surgeon redoes your bloodwork at 3 mos and I just got those results. I have "the cholesterol of a 12 yr old" and everything was excellent. I am off blood pressure meds. and my knee though still hurts, is better when I consider I take nothing for it now and was taking 10 ibuprofen a day. I have had 4 fills and believe I am at my sweet spot, at least it feels that way right now. I'm tighter than I've ever been but just got it on Tuesday. I had one setback in that my gall bladder went and had to have a 2nd surgery 3 weeks ago to remove it. I'm slowly recovering from it, it took longer than my banding. And now I've developed a rash in a few of the incisions that I am fighting. They can't figure out what it is and did some tests on it and I may see a dermatologist next week. So that's what's up with me, Next????

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

They come on Tues. or Wed. they haven't let me know a definite date yet. Though, ironically, she would've wanted specifics a month ago!! LOL

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Just something I've wondered.... I notice the title of this thread is 'Hey 50 & Over, we have a new spot.... Vs. where was the old?? Or is Lapbandtalk relatively new?? Had a good day. Went shopping for a new range/oven but I haven't totally gotten hubby to buy into the idea. He says to do what I want, but I know he'd rather get the old one fixed if it's not too much. Now I feel torn, as I know he really doesn't want to, I'd rather get a nicer one but they are more than we want to spend, etc. I have a repairman scheduled for Tues. morning, it's $29.95 for him to come, it will be deducted from repairs if we repair it, if not I just owe that much, guess I could see what he says and then hope it's too expensive to fix. :smile2: Tomorrow we have a family gathering at my SIL's for FIL's birthday, I haven't seen many folks in a month or two so will see if they notice my loss. It's not too much of a challenge food wise as SIL always has such ummm how shall I say, 'different stuff' or nto really sure what that is stuff. Not usually too tastey. :crying:

    Hallow-Lean Challenge...

That's right even with comorbidities (I had high bloodpressure but don't anymore) I wouldn't qualify. YIPEE!! But I am so glad I did and I got the band, it has changed my life already in 4 short months.

    New Milestone at 4mos

Well it helps that she lives far away. Also over the years she has been so negative and not real supportive over weight issues, so I wanted a good head start before I told her. She can't argue with 70 lbs now, can she??? :crying:

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Thanks for all the kudos on my loss, they mean a lot!! That is a lot of testing. I had to have a pulmonologist screening, psychologist screening, and a cardiologist (which required a stress test) screening and a blood work up. The treadmill test killed my knees too so they gave me something in my IV to replicate the treadmill and I didn't have to do the treadmill. When they got their readings they reversed it. It was a weird feeling but I just sat there. I don't think it's necessarily the insurance requiring all the tests, I was self pay. Part of it is, I believe, being extra safe because lap band is an elective surgery and the surgeons want to cover their butts and makes sure they have assessed all risks. Part of it is, unfortunately, our ages, I know if I wasn't 50 I wouldn't have needed the cardiologists. Part is we are over weight and have more risks. But some on your list, like diet history, that would be for insurance purposes I imagine. I also had to go to a seminar, nutrition class and a consult appt before I could get the okay for surgery. Glad you have most of them done. It's getting closer and closer now!

Thanks for the welcome back. My parents are in Lady Lake, FL. One of those retirement communities. Sounds like you will have some scenic areas to ride in if you are on the beach, sounds lovely.

    Hallow-Lean Challenge...

Wow Redtulips (red font is in honor of your name) if I am reading your ticker correctly, you have lost over 100 since Jan. That is awesome as well!! Plus you lost so much pre op! I bet you feel totally different!

WHY are people voting for McCain?

I think your are incorrect in that. Many folks base their vote on a candidates view on abortion for or against.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I hit the big magical number of 70 today!!! YAHOO!!! Whodda thunk it?? Surely not me when I got my band 4 mos ago. I did lose 10 of that preband. I've been losing rapidly the past week or so, so that means I better get ready to settle in and maintain for a few weeks. That's how my body seems to operate. hang on, hang on, and then WHOOSH! I really want to hit 75 by the end of the month. I'm very anxious for my parents to see me next week. They are coming next week and have no clue about my surgery or weight loss, unless my sisters broke their vow of secrecy to them, which I know they haven't or mom would've said something. Orea, glad to see you back! I've quilted in the past, just not much recently. Get together? I'd love it! Is there some place central to all of us?

    Has anyone taken up Bycyling?

Are you vacationing in FL or on business? My folks live in FL but are visiting here next week. Did you bring your bike along? I'm nervous about getting on mine again as my knees were really bothering me when I was riding it a lot. and I got the bike thinking it would be better on my knees. Maybe I have to play with my seat height. I was so skittish before on it that I was afraid to have it too high and not be able to touch ground, maybe less weight will have me feeling more balanced?????

    Daily News!

Allie, enjoy all those kids around. I had a difficult time with the empty nest at first. We were living in CA and they had both just moved out, when my husband who works for the airlines was transferred to the east coast. My kids stayed on one coast and I moved to the other. I never got used to the empty nest and now had the whole continent between us. Luckily we were only back east a year and a half and got to come to Denver which is really home for us. since then both my kids have moved to Denver as well. My daughter just recently and now she's living with us and DH can't wait til she moves out. LOL It's been an adjustment having her back with us. She's 27 now and I guess I still have a tendency to want to mother her. But it's been good and she'll be out on her own again soon. As for getting to the sweet spot, I've had 5 fills and after the 3rd, 4th and 5th ones I thought I was there, but eventually it has worn off and I need more restriction. They said it had something to do with losing the fat layer between the band and tummy. And now the exciting news for me; I HIT 70 LBS GONE THIS MORNING!
