I was banded by Dr. Snyder in June. He's awesome. I had surgery at 1pm and was home by 530pm. I didn't meet either Dr. Chae or Dr. K. I did talk to a gal named Natalie on the phone at Dr. K's and must've caught her on a bad day as I was totally turned off by her rudeness so didn't investigate further. But I have heard from many others that have gone to Dr. K and they have absolutely wonderful things to say about his office. Everyone is entitled to a bad day and I must've hit her's. I think it comes down to which dr. fits your personality and needs best. Talk to them both and make your decision from there.

We leave on Tues. for our trip. We started to get a few things together today, but mostly worked on putting up Christmas decorations. We won't be home til late Sunday night and I usually put it all up the day after Thanksgiving and since Thanksgiving is later this year we started today. We will do our tree the weekend after we get home. I have so much Christmas stuff and this house has so little places to put it. I had so many nooks and crannies in my previous couple of homes. But I hate to get rid of stuff especially stuff I've had for years and years so it's tough to decide what gets placed this year. We had 2 rotties and lost one of them each of the past two Christmases. It was really tough. We expected the one more or less but not the 2nd one as she was much younger. Now we have 2 puppies almost well one is 2 and the other will be 1 next month. they are both black lab mixes and DH is going to see how well they hunt next week, they are going with us, should be a fun car ride!

JoAnn, sorry to hear about your dog. It's so hard when our fur babies get ill, etc. Hope she's better soon. I see you have less than 2 weeks to go. I know some folks have to do a 2 week pre op diet. Do you? You are going to do so good with the band with all your knowledge before hand.

You should be able to eat meat with the band. Are you too tight if all you can eat is softer stuff? That's not good. I eat some sort of meat at every meal. Only thing I have problems with is white meat chicken (drier) and some pork if it's too dry. Cut it up in tiny, pencil eraser size bites, and chew chew chew. It's important to get in your Protein so if you are not eating meat be sure you are watching your protein intake. Good luck! That's my husband, been at the company for 31 yrs, has 5 weeks of vacation, etc. Luckily his counterpart at the other airline they are merging with is in the same position. We aren't stressing out too much, feel that it is in the Lord's hands. Just ever so thankful we are back home in CO, have an almost totally paid for house (small mortgage) and have been working on getting our 'house in order' so to speak financially. But still we will need an income so scary times. Since we are leaving town on Tues. hubby is working on our Christmas lights outside today, that and the fact that it's in the 60s out today. Who knows what the weather may be when we return. I just love it when the home is all decorated for the holidays. The extended family we are seeing on vacation next week has not seen me since last Thanksgiving many of them, so will be interesting.

Charlene, glad your fill is giving you the much needed restriction. I still can only eat about 1/2 cup at a time most of the time though I notice it increasing. Congrats on the loss!!

Orea, I can sympathize with what you are going through. I lost my job at the airlines 4 yrs ago and DH is on pins and needles wondering about his. He has a 50/50 shot of staying or being let go. We were supposed to hear by Thanksgiving and now we are hearing the end of the year. What a Christmas bonus that would be!

That's a good idea! I'll 'lose' it when I get to goal. Funny when I put the weight on there it was about 60 or 70 less than I weighed at the time. It's fairly new since we've only been back in CO for 2 yrs so won't be up for renewal for awhile.

Great pics Roses!! You can really see the difference, looking good!! I hit 85 lbs lost today!! WOO HOO!! I realized yesterday when I got my drivers license out that I weigh less than it says I do! For most of my driving years it's been just the opposite as I was too embarrassed to put what I really weighed on there.

Good morning!! And a glorius morning it is despite the fog outside (very unusual for here), because...... I hit 85 this morning!!! WOO HOO!! A half a pound more and I'll be out of the 220's even. I just realized something yesterday when I had to get my driver's license out for ID. I weigh less than it says I do. That's never happened in the past.

Congrats on your band!! I was banded by Dr. Snyder in June. I live way, way north of you (near Brighton). Good luck in your journey!

Kay, what they are quoting you are averages and I believe those are even a few years old. If you are a faithful bander and follow the rules, exercise, etc. you can be much more successful, there's several here on this message board. I am 5 mos out and have already lost 55% of my excess body weight or something like that. My surgeon figured it out on my visit on Tues. and said I had already beat the '1 yr average' by 3%. the band is a tool that you need to use the way it's meant to be used. It won't do the work for you. If you do the work, you can be successful. Our very own Janet here reached her goal weight and lost over 100 lbs in less than a year. Congrats to you and good luck! Beachlover, your sweet spot is when you get the perfect amount of restriction, not too much and not too little. It takes a few fills generally to get there, some more and some less. I think it took Janet 2 it has taken me 5 (plus I had a prefill in surgery).

Yea!!! My email notifications are working again, however, I think I got everyone I've been missing for several days. Gotta clean out the inbox, but hopefully it's working like normal again. Ellen, congrats on having to change your ticker again. I tihnk the thing about the NG tube is 'no blind NG tube' they can do it with a scope and see where they are going etc. It's not that they can't insert one but need to be aware of the band if they do. Something to that effect. I put an ID bracelet on my list for Santa. There's some nice ones at www.laurenshope.com or something like that. Becky, congrats on the 50!!! Well I got my last knee injection today, I am praying they do the trick. Also went had got a bunch of blood drawn for the lab work for my 6 mos post op appt. On the days I get my injections I am to take it easy on that knee so time to go put my feet up and watch tv or read a magazine! Or try this knitting I got. I have never knitted and got some yarn and needles. YIKES!!

I'm here. It's cold here today too, supposed to be a high of 36 after highs in the 70's the past several days. BRRRR I am going to the hospital to have blood drawn for the lab work my dr. ordered for my 6 mos post op visit the first week of Dec. if I get them drawn now they can go over all the results with me at the appt. so I will make the extra drive to do that. I couldn't get them the other day when I was down there as I had eaten and it is a fasting one. Then it's to the knee dr. for my 3rd and final knee injection. They do seem to be helping this time so I am thrilled about that. I am holding steady at 84 lbs. I want that 85 real bad and the scale keeps teasing me. I am in a Biggest Loser competition at my rec center and guess who is in first place? I hope I can hold on to it for 3 more weeks as that is when it ends. The grand prize $700!!!!!!!! I have about a 1% lead is all. Can you believe we are coming up on our 6 month bandiversaries??

Good afternoon. I am figuring this subscribed threads thing out, thanks for the help Janet. I just hope my email notifications start coming again. Question, I picked up a flyer in the dr office yesterday about medical ID bracelets. Does anyone here have one? If so what does it say? Does it give you peace of mind? Not sure if it's really needed or not. This flyer was from Lauren's hope and they are quite pricey.

The thing I liked about the email notifications is when you clicked on it, it took you directly to the newest post since you last visited and you could read them in order easily w/o having to figure out where you left off. Is there anyway to do that when you click on the subscribed threads?

If my email notifications don't start coming again, how do I check at my c/p?? Not sure I've seen that feature. Guess I will have to explore around tomorrow. The only person in my surgeons office that was a little difficult to work with was the insurance person. Maybe it's part of the job description! Though I was self pay she is still the one that scheduled my surgery and I got the funds to etc. I've heard others complain about her too, but also hear how she's ruthless when fighting with the insurance companies. And she really comes through in the end. Glad it's working out for you and she is gong to keep you in the loop on your approval process. Me too wondering why, that is how I came to the site usually. Hope they return.

For some reason I am not getting the emails notifying me of new posts. I thought that odd and didn't think everyone could have been that quiet that long so am glad I came and checked! Ellen, good to see you back posting. Good luck with your fill tomorrow. I hope it gets you to a good place in the band. I had my visit with my dr. today. We opted for me not to get a fill since I have another appt in 3 weeks and am going to the middle of no where on vacation next week. He said I was doing great and wanted me to know the 'awesomeness' of my progress and did some math. He figured out the percentage of excess body weight I have lost and I am 2% better than the 1 yr average at only 5 months. However, he wants me to get in another mini meal of protein in a day and up my water intake as my protein and water were a little low. He ordered some labs and if I go get the blood drawn in the next day or so they should have the results at my next appt. I then met my son for lunch and a shopping trip at Walmart. He works there and employees usually don't get their discount on groceries but they are for the holidays. He helped me get some groceries for Thanksgiving and Christmas so that was nice of him. Every little bit helps. Tonight we are going to dinner to our favorite Mexican place, they are having $2 burritos. They are so good, I just eat the innards of half of one these days though. Oh I almost forgot, I might have a job. It's part, part time (only 2 1/2 hours a day). I will work M-F 6am to 830a at the rec center in my neighborhood. I will have no excuse to not exercise before I leave for home! That's the other thing my dr told me I needed to do was up my exercise. He didn't take my excuse of hating to sweat as valid. Imagine that!! I do work out but need to workout more intensely. I fill out the papers for the job tomorrow, it sounds like it is all but mine. At first I wasn't going to do it as it was so few hours, but it's something. Every little bit helps. I can put the money in my goal wardrobe fund!! Or my Vegas fund if we go there.

April, I am so glad you came back and posted again. You sound like you are doing great. I was scared to death that I was going to fail at this just like everything else. After all when that is your only history when it comes to weight loss is losing then regaining, it's hard to believe things can be different. It's one of the main reasons I chose the band vs bypass. I've known people to regain after bypass as they stretch their pouch, with the band, hopefully I can forever keep some restriction. I cried going into the OR as well. It is such an emotional time. Part was fear and part was excitement and saying good bye to the old me. Any change can be scary, even good change. Two days before surgery I had almost completely talked myself out of it. Good luck to you. And keep posting here. I think it is key to staying focused and being successful to have the support of others going through the same things.

Well happy birthday gals!!! You celebrate like crazy, you deserve it!! I am going to be watching for ideas on how to celebrate my new one in May. I had my consult for my surgery 3 days before my bday this year and surgery 2 weeks after, so this one will be a biggie and I hope to be at goal! HowLucky, I'd be ticked at that gal too. Fortunately, she's not the one doing the surgery. Are you happy with your surgeon? If so I'm not sure I'd start the process over elsewhere but at my next visit with the dr. I'd be sure he knew about it. She should be more compassionate knowing how much this surgery means to folks and the ardous process to get approval.
