Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Great2BThin replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Lizalee, you can do this. go back and remember why you got this band in the first place, how determined you were. I think, for me anyway, it was when I found out I really could eat chips, popcorn, etc. that I started struggling more. Before that, I had myself convinced I couldn't eat those things anymore and had no problems avoiding them. Then once I discovered how easily they went down, the resolve slipped. I got myself back on track now, that was over the holidays, but it's still not easy. Plus I think I've reached a point where my losses have slowed down to a trickle compared to what they were. I get frustrated, but in reality am still losing about 4 to 5 lbs a month, I just lose them all in one week so the rest of the month seems like I am not losing and I panic about being stuck on the scale. You've had some major stress in your life with moving right before the holidays and your routine got changed. Now you just gotta make a new one! You can do this, your progress thus far proves that. -
Good morning gang. Just got home from Zumba (Janet, it's me that's taking zumba classes). I felt a little more in step this time but not much. It seemed harder and faster, got a good workout that's for sure. I won't be able to go next Sat. as I have a meeting at the same time as class. However, my friend at work is starting these workout videos. Several people at our gym come in and do P90X workouts which is a series of workout videos by Tony Horton. I had never heard of them but I see he's on QVC today. Or you can get them online at www.beachbodies.com. Well for the 2 of us they are a little extreme to start out. the men in particular really like this series. However, he has a less extreme workout (the X in P90X stands for extreme I believe). the less extreme one is called Power 90 and we are going to start it on Monday. You do it for 90 days it combines, cardio, yoga, pilates abs, etc. Should be interesting. Just wondering if anyone else has heard of it and knows what I am getting myself into.

Allie, I can so relate to the big boned body. I don't think my skeleton could ever be smaller than a possible 10. Though I am getting hopeful with my new size 12 jeans but I am convinced they were mismarked or ran big as I have another size 12 that I can't even pull over my butt. My feet were 11's too and have shrunk a little but not enough. I also have 'cankles' so don't know how dainty my feet will ever look. Teach, so glad the fill went well. Mine have always been a breeze, so guess I am lucky. I've not had one since early Dec. and don't think I am in need of one for awhile yet. Of course, now that they are free, I don't need one. They will give me free fills for all my volunteering at the hospital in the bariatric program. I am sitting here enjoying the spring like temperatures. We had 63 today and they expect 60's through about Wed. next week, even heard 'record warmth' mentioned on the news. Gotta love it after the deep chill we had. Of course, all this does is give me spring fever and I know I have a long ways to go. march, historically is our snowiest month.

Good morning. Here it is Friday already, I had a busy week. Hubby is home on vacation so am just off my routine. Still haven't lost past the 95 lbs mark. I think that 100 mark is just going to tease me for awhile. I am eating right and exercising so I know it will have to give sooner or later. I am back at tracking on Daily Plate so I know I am hitting my calories and protein, etc. I went shopping yesterday, Ann Taylor had bigger markdowns! I was in trouble! I got a $139 cashmere sweater for $35 and some spring stuff was marked down already I got 2 shirts. Gift cards are now history that I got for Christmas.

I've wrestled with the thought of going grey myself. I have very dark brown hair so it is very noticeable and have dyed it for 20 yrs almost. I think it is the pretty grey I like but am so afraid of it aging me especially now that I hav a few wrinkles in my face and neck from the weight loss. I say now when I become Grandma I will. Allie, I am not losing now. I seem to lose a couple pounds a month now and they usually all disappear in a weekend, then am stuck the rest of the month. I thought when I set a goal of reaching 100 lbs lost by Valentines day I was giving myself plenty of time, considering where I was but now have my druthers whether I really will. I have a month to lose 5 lbs.
-
Congrats Susan!! I am 5 lbs away and my scale ain't movin' either. But I will get there. I've had 2 people recently ask me if I was done losing weight. That shocked me. I still see myself as morbidly obese, but am still technically in the obese category, about to go into 'overweight' but to get the normal BMI I have over 40 to go.
-
Are you flying into Gainesville? That's where my folks prefer we fly into so they dont' have to deal with Orlando traffic. It's looking like the end of Feb that we will be going. Could use some nice weather myself as we got hit with a blowing snow this morning. Not that much though.

I, too, get the Centrum silver chewables for my vitamin. For my calcium I use the Citracal petites and can swallow those okay. My dr office recommended Calcium Citrate vs Calcium Carbonate so that is why I get those. There's been a couple occassions right after a fill where I was kindda tight and had to cut the calcium in half. I also cut my glocosamine in half now as those are so big. My vit B, Biotin I can take no problems. Good luck to you and welcome!! -
Have a great trip. Hopefully you can check in from Florida! Would love to meet down there but sounds like we will miss each other.

Teach, glad you loved my city. I grew up here and lived away for 25 yrs and just moved back 2 yrs ago. I am so happy to be back. It did take me some getting used to back at the high altitude when moving back. I was tired a lot (more sleepy than exhausted type tired) and got out of breath easily (well easier than before but I did a lot anyway at 300 lbs). They do say we get deyhydrated more easily here too. Not sure if that is so much the altitude or the desert type climate, we complain it's humid with the humidity gets about 20 or so. I drink up til my meals and then don't for 30 to 60 min after. I took my 2nd Zumba class today. It was still fun, well as much fun as exercise can be. They offer it only on Mondays and Saturdays so now I have 5 days to rest up my knee. I will still workout but will do more on the bike or elliptical which is easier on my knee.
-
Good afternoon. Am in the midst of cooking a big turkey for dinner. We bought like 5 of them when the grocery store had them so cheap for Thanksgiving. Both of my kids are coming for dinner. Then DH will have all his leftovers he loves so much too. I have dibs on dark meat as the white doesn't go down so easy. took my 2nd Zumba class today. She teaches the class on Mondays and Saturdays. I feel like such a clutz but am having as much fun as one can have exercising anyway and getting a good workout in. Think my knee will like the break now til Sat. I will still work out but probably on the bike.

I actually tried that today at work. When I went into the gym part to turn on the lights and TV's for the day I saw a 95 lb weight on the weight rack and tried to pick it up. Could barely budge it. Ironically I could carry it on my body but can't pick it up. No wonder I hurt all the time! -

Ihad my cereal this morning, it was all I could do to eat the 1/2 cup and I put about 1/3 skim milk on it. I wanted it to be high in protein just so I got that, but was mostly concerned with as high of fiber as I could get to help in that department. Think i will just take the box to work and some milk so I don't have to drag in back and forth every day. The cruise we take this year will be my 12th cruise so have done a lot of cruising. Thanks for the offer. Though we may go to Europe or the Panama Canal and I haven't done either of those yet. I try to stick to Princess first or Royal Carribean second, but go where the deal is. We also get a discount since hubby is (& I used to be) in the travel industry. So I watch the deals all the time. We hope to go this spring but may have to wait til fall or summer with my almost 100 yr old Grandma moving out here this spring. Cruising is my favorite way to vacation. My parents go on about 3 or 4 a year but they always go to the same places, I like to change it up, but usually like the onboard experience more than tons of ports. We did Alaska the past 2 yrs so am ready for some place warm this time. -

Speaking of cereals I got some Kashi Go Lean this weekend to try to up my fiber intake it has 13g protein and 10 g fiber in 1 cup. Not sure I can do a whole cup in the morning so am going to start today with a half cup. Also, my email notifications came back this morning. YAHOO!! I got like 43 of them, so must've gotten everyone I missed the past several days. -
Well it looks like I will take Zumba again tomorrow. My daughter is off and may come take it with me. She heard it had 'salsa' moves and thinks it sounds fun. I'm not sure what the moves are called. Just know I am not a dancer but it's still fun. I googled it and read various things as to how many calories it burnt. I read things from 500 to over 1000, I will go towards the lower end as I sure wouldnt' want to over estimate. I'd rather be burning more than I think I am than less.
-
Thanks Donna! I will have to think of something to change my screen name to.

Nope I am not getting the emails still either. I miss them, I know how you can go to the User CP to get them but I liked just checking my email and then clicking right on the post and being taken right to it that way. Also, when I post now the smileys are no longer on the bottom but are on the side and there's less of them, unless you click on more. -
What was really neat about my Zumba class is the first thing I did was to see if I was the oldest and/or the fattest. nope on both accounts!! There were 2 (out of 8) that were older than me and the reason I know that is they were talking about a seniors class and mentioned their ages, and there was at least one heavier cause i know her weight from the weight loss challenge. Allie, I remember the years of my kids going to college too. There is a neat loan that you can get as parents if you don't want your kids to get it called a PLUS or something like that. You dont' have to pay on it til they are done with school. But you can pay on it for no interest before that then. My son got some type of loan when he opted to go out of state. we said we'd pay for it if he finished, he didn't and we didn't. It was the hardest thing I had to do is say we weren't going to. We had a deal. Plus he had a basketball scholarship that would've increased that year. What I am trying to say is there are options, but I know how you wanted to know it was paid for when they went and not want to have to finance it. I read a lot about this 5 day pouch test. Might have to keep it in mind for future reference. Funny, my dr. after a fill just says liquids for 4 to 5 hours, and then mushies the rest of that day. I'm back on solids the next day. But tend to stay on the mushier side of things. So far my last fill is still good. I think I have had 6 of them though.

Sorry, Denise, about the color. I just randomly pick one but used green a lot for Christmas. I didnt' realize it was a problem as no one else ever mentioned it. Will use darker ones. Katy, get thy self to a dr. or an emergency room asap! please, sounds like you have a blockage or something. Apples, Grandma is in Tavares which is near Leesburg I think. I just talked to her. Looks like she may be moving towards the end of Feb. and that's when I would come down. Are you still there then? I think Ocala is about 45 min from my parents which is where I will stay in Lady Lake. I just got home a bit ago from taking a Zumba class at the gym. It was kindda fun. I've not taken an aerobics class in years! I was then and still am now a Clutz with a capital C!! But it was fun and I got a good workout. -
Ahh, Allie, so sorry you are going through this right now. You have every right to be upset. This affects your life in a big way. Sure you still have your job, but it's not the job you had before you are working a whole lot more for a whole lot less money. My husband has survived some layoffs but had to take a paycuts in the past. Sure it was nice he kept the job and I was grateful for that, the paycuts meant a whole lot of changes for us and still ticked us off. Changes in lifestyle had to be made. So go ahead and vent. Venting here is better than chocolate!! (well almost). I've gotten rid of most of the junk this week, still had a 'chip issue'. Chips are my go to food and not sweets, they are my chocolate. I did manage to lose this week and hit 95 this morning. 5 more til triple digits!! 10 more til Onderland!! Well I did something this morning I'd have never guessed I'd ever do 7 mos ago before the band. I took an aerobics class.....and here's the clincher....I ENJOYED IT. It was this new Zumba class that is out now it's to what I called cruise ship music kindda Latin, reggae, calypso type. I was such a clutz, couldn't stay in step for nothing and had to improvise some for my knee but heck, I was a movin' and a groovin'. I might even do it again, only thing is it is costly at $6 a class I think. The other classes at $3 but since this one is 'branded' like Jazzercise used to be it's more.

Good morning gals. You will never guess what I did today. I took my first aerobics class in years. At the rec center that I work at they started a new class called Zumba, this was the first week. The gal I work with wanted to try it and we went together. OMG, it was a lot of fun. the music was great, reminded me of cruise ship music sortta calypso/Carribean/Latin feel. The moves were medicore hard. I definitely have a lot to learn. At first was very self conscious how out of step I was and that I had to make improvisions for my knee. But then looked around and I was no worse than anyone else. And I told that voice in my head to shut up. I may have been out of step and going the wrong way sometimes but I was moving and that's what it is all about. gotta go check out daily plate and see how many calories I burned. Only trouble is, since it's a 'branded class' like Jazzercise used to be, it's a little more expensive. It's $6 a class, they offer it twice a week so that would be $12 a week, do I want to pay that to work out?? Might be worth it, if I continue to enjoy it. Interesting, when I got out of the class, I thought, I can't wait to get home and tell the gals here about it. I knew you'd all understand what an accomplishment that was for me to take a class like that.
