    June line up

Well this is it. The last day of June. By the end of the day we all will have gone in for our surgeries. we've had a few sad stories of couple that weren't able to get their band, but are one of us regardless. Congratulations June-Bugs. Here's to the rest of our lives!!! Good luck everyone. Next month should be full of first fill stories. As I look back on my journey, I can't believe how quick it went. Sure while I was awaiting a date, screenings etc. it seemed like an eternity, but when I consider I had my seminar on 4/26, 1st consult 5/14 and was banded on 6/5 I think that was pretty quick. And now I am almost 4 weeks post op. Onward and Downward (on the scale that is).

How Much Have You Lost So Far?

Hunzi, I hope you hang with us, once a Jun-ie always a Jun-ie!! I was so excited to have finally lost this week, only to have it reshow up. GRRRR I see my calories are now averaging in the 700 range up from the 500 range while on mushies. But still that ain't much!! Will just keep plugging along, allow the body to heal and see what I find out at my first fill.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Oh great, thanks, I will keep this in mind after I lose some more.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Wow, Becky, I can't believe you were able to go to a pool already. I was banded before you and I can't even get in my bathtub yet. Or even let the shower Water hit directly on my abdomen until the scabs and glue are gone. It's strange how dr.'s are all so different about things. It gets confusing when you read what others are able to do vs what your dr's instructions are. But so far I've followed my dr's instructions to the letter, but a pool sounds so refreshing on this 90+ degree day!

Ah, thanks Joann, that was sweet. I wonder if you can change your name? or if you have to resign up?

Are you kidding me? Wear a bathing suit with my scars exposed??? Not even sure when I get to goal I will wear a 2 pc or a bikini. but it would be great to know I could if I wanted. But I might try out one of those tankini's. I'm tall and have a hard time with one pieces being long enough and they ride up so bad. But seriously, I am olive skinned, and thanks for the advice, as I tan very dark. It is odd how so many surgeons have so many different 'rules' I read earlier about someone banded after me (I'm 3 weeks out) and they were to the pool already, I can't even get in my bath tub til 6 weeks much less a pool. Showers only, and don't let the Water hir directly unto my incisions until the scabs are gone.

How Much Have You Lost So Far?

I was finally down today. After losing so fast during pre op and the first week post op, I lost nothing for 2 weeks, all the while on mushies and only about 500 calories a day. Yesterday on my 3 week post op anniversary I got solids and today am down!! 34 lbs total!! Banded 6/5/08 but I lost 10 while researching lapband surgery, but I'm still counting it!!

    Angry Rant, grrrrrr!

I so know of what you speak about airplanes. DH works for the airlines, I can fly any where in the world for free. He wants me to go on a business trip with him on Monday, I'm already stressing out over the $%@# seatbelt, getting a middle seat (standby you get whats left). I have turned down so many awesome opportunities because of my seatbelt fears. So stupid. I even have my very own extender so I never have to ask. I just hate the look as I'm the last one to board, of everyone looking at me, 'like I hope she's not sitting next to me'. I'm down 34 lbs so far and hope that won't happen anymore. Still debating about going with hubby on Monday though.

Dermabond, is that the glue? I am glued shut. It's starting to flake off now with the scabs and the scars look great.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Good morning. I survived my first day of solids!! No problems. DH took me to Red Lobster for crablegs. We almost didn't go because I went into the chat room yesterday afternoon and someone said that wasn't a good choice, 'how brave I was', because they were rubbery. Yet at my support group I go to they had said how great a choice it was so I went. I did great. DH ordered his dinner and then got the add on of 1/2 lb crab legs and that's what I had. It was a perfect portion, I read online that 8 oz of snow crab yields about 4 oz of meat. I was satisfied, but not stuffed and enjoyed the evening out. I was also rewarded on the scale this morning with a pound loss! Finally the first loss in 2 weeks. I don't know if my body thinks it's starving and holding on as long as it can or what, because on mushies I was only averaging about 500 calories a day. But then again if this is really true, how does anyone ever starve to death, the body has to give it up eventuallly I would think. I've started walking and today I am going to go back to the clubhouse/gym in my neighborhood and ride the stationary bike. Still can't lift weights or go in a pool until I'm 6 weeks post op. Editing to add: just updated my ticker, I am .1 away from being out of the morbidly obese category and just obese!!!

    Anyone else noticed?

I'm a fairly newbie, 3 weeks post op, we aren't all like that!! I love the advise that you, Jachut, and others at goal have to offer. And I love the bluntness of it. I'm sick and tired of the I'm only 3 days out and I cheated posts. Or worse, the I cheated preop. It may not be politically correct to speak the frank honest truth but sometimes it's very needed. So please keep 'bothering'. I appreciate all of it!

Band date - June 5th 1st fill date - July 14th 10am Still feeling good restriction though, only eat about 4 oz at a time. Not hungry. I had a prefill during surgery maybe that's helping. The dr. told DH after surgery, the smaller band was a little too tight, but the large one was too big so he used it with a 4cc fill. Today is my first day of solids.

Kim, I have my first fill on the 14th too, was banded June 5th. I started solids today but evidently I have great restriction still. I could only eat a very little bit.

    Which type are you?

Very well put MacMadame!! Couldn't have said it any better.

    Solids tomorrow!!

Today is my last day of mushies!!! I'm doing the countdown!! Tomorrow is 3 weeks post op and that is when my dr. allows solids. It sucks when I read people having surgery after me getting them already. There seems to be such a variance by dr. I do know I have a prefill so maybe that's why I had to wait longer. Any how, was just wondering what those on solids already had for their first 'meal'. I think I am going to Red Lobster for crab legs but now am wondering if I was something else. decisions decisions

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Wow!! Janet, you look amazing!! Doesn't even look like the same person in the before pic. today is 3 weeks post op for me, which translates into, I can have solids today!! I still had scrambled egg beaters for breakfast though. I came out of the band secrecy closet yesterday with my inlaws. I went to lunch at Mimi's with my MIL, SIL, and aunt in law. I had also been with them for a family BBQ the night before. I guess they noticed what I ate the night before (just mushy beans and some egg) and then at lunch I ordered soup. My MIL noticed my butt getting smaller and asked if I was dieting, wanted to know what I was doing, then my aunt in law started telling me all the diets I should try, and then my SIL said they were noticing how I ate the night before so I told them. They were all very supportive. I was nervous to tell them because I figured my SIL especially who is very vocal and opinionated would have lots to say. MY MIL even said how proud she was of me and she wanted to make sure that my husband was supportive. LOL, always the mom. LOL So guess I'm glad I told them, but now I know they will really watch what I eat, but guess they were already. :Angel_anim:

I also wonder, how much a difference the surgeon you choose and their program plays into how ready a person is for the procedure. I could've went to a surgeon in town that many fly to from all over the country due to his prices as an option instead of going to Mexico. He does a consult over the phone, not much in pre op testing, etc. It seemed to me if you had the cash, you had the surgery. Versus the surgeon I chose, (who was more expensive and I am self pay) I had to see a psych before surgery, had numerous tests, was required to go to a pre op nutrition class and 2 post op nutrition classes, support groups etc. I had to agree to all this before I could set a surgery date, and get all my clearances. At first I was miffed, because well, I wanted the band and I wanted it now. But now I am so grateful, I felt it prepared me so much to be successful, to fully understand what post op life was going to be like, etc. etc. I plan on going to my dr.'s support groups for a long time to come, just to be sure I keep my head in the game! 3 weeks post op today - the day my surgeon allows solids back into the diet!!!!

    I'm here to help...

WOO HOO, Janet!!!! Way to go!!! When I grow up in bandster life, I wanna be just like you!! Today is 3 weeks post op!!! THE DAY MY SURGEON ALLOWS SOLIDS BACK INTO THE DIET!!!!!!!!!! Oh what to have for lunch???? I'm going to Red Lobster for dinner!! (no biscuits) I've not lost a pound in 2 weeks (lost 22 from preop through one week post op though, plus 10 I lost before that). My nurse said this was very normal in this phase as I'm eating so few calories my body thinks it's starving. She assures me this will change when I get my first fill. Also, I'm sooooooooo constipated (sorry if that's TMI), nurse told me to get some milk of magnesia or suppositories. I'm already taking Metamucil and colace nightly.

    June line up

I can't believe our month of surgeries is about over, only 2 more days after today of surgeries. Question: do you think on Tues. the 1st of July we should start a new thread for our daily checkin's and musings?? Kaylieghmom, I had hernia repair and it wasn't bad. One of my incisions is a little worse looking (not the port) but my pain was minimal, I would never had known had the dr. not told me. Good luck!

    I'm here to help...

I walked around the 'normal' sections at Macys not long ago. It was so darn confusing. Not used to having to shop by designer/brand. So much to learn. I have met a LBT person here in Denver for lunch already. It was strange. My kids (in their 20's) gave me a bad time for just that reason, me telling them not to meet internet strangers and here I was off to lunch with one.:embaressed_smile:

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Woo Hoo!!! Congrats!! Just before my consult with my surgeon I hit 'Two-terville' and that felt awesome. I can't wait for onderland. Right now I am shooting for 250 so I can be closer to the 100s than the 300's.

    Wwyd?

First off, I would for sure tell the Dr. you don't want to find out too late that he can't do the surgery. But more importantly I'd really have a frank discussion with myself and figure out why I did that. You probably are going to still be okay to have the surgery, but the post op diet isn't any easier. What will you do then? It will be a much more serious issue if you don't follow the post op diet with the band. You could damage it, cause slippage, etc.
