What to do when your husband is against surgery?
debbie_7155 replied to melliecat's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
lol@bignik To the first thread, i would ask hubby to go with you at ALL the consultations & let him hear it for himself, yes there are risks, but all surgeries carries risks, If he can understand all there is to know about lapbanding then it will be easier for him to give you the right support, Do this surgery for you with all the right reasons, NO one should hold you back, but its nice to see he is concerned too :tt2: -
Hi if you have seen your surgeon & been approved through the insurance, they shouldnt go back on their word, as they know you cant keep the weight of on your own thats why you are going for the lapband, I wouldnt worry about it, they often like you to lose as much weight as you can as it makes their job easier to operate on you, my surgeon said to me they have operated on people who more or less reached their goal before having the band but still went ahead & had the procedure because they knew the only way to keep the weight off was t have the band fitted, good luck & im sure you will be fine, just think how much you are shrinking your liver with the weight loss your doing, keep up the good work & welcome :tt2:

frustrated, any helping words?
debbie_7155 replied to blackcherry2002's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My nutritionist told me NOT to drop below 800 calories a day, so 500 is way too little.. Make sure you are eating all the right foods/drinks & exercise, hope the scales move for you again soon -

debbie_7155 replied to justme2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hey dont let anyone knock you down, you have done awesome, you have lost not gained & you are doing what the band is supose to be doing, the reason the other people are prob like that towards you is because they dont know exactly how the band is supose to work? i too have to wait 3 months after surgery for my first fill, about 5 weeks time my first one will be.. Im sure once you hit your sweet spot the weight will fall off?, but as long as its coming off who cares when people put a time on it.. your doing a great job, keep it up -
yes the shoulder pain is from the gas they pump into you, so they can operate on you easier

How long after surgery until First Fill
debbie_7155 replied to Jacks2009's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
mine is 12 weeks after surgery.. all docs are different -
everyone is different & you shouldnt go by what others are losing that you should be losing the same, you say you dont go for your first fill til mid april, that gives you time to lose more weight than you have already, I get my first fill April 22nd, over here you wait about 12 weeks after surgery.. thats a long time, so im giving it all i can on my own to lose weight until i get my fills... The weight will cme off you, your still recovering from your surgery for the first 6 weeks.. good luck in your new journey

Why huge plateaus after banding??
debbie_7155 replied to MamaJava's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
please dont feel alone, were all here to try & help you & give you support, youre not crazy, your body for some reason sounds like its fighting against you & your band, for reasons i dont know, maybe someone on here has been through the same as you & can give some light on the matter? i truly hope so, you have worked so hard & lost a lot of weight, that in its self is great achievement & at least you are not putting it on, but yes i too would want to too see more rewards for putting in a huge effort, I do hope the scales start moving again very soon for you, try & keep your chin up until someone can give you an answer -
I was the opposite of sue, my doctor DID refer me & i too have no other health problems apart from my weight, I guess it depends where you live or what doctor you see.. good luck make that appointment soon

Why huge plateaus after banding??
debbie_7155 replied to MamaJava's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hi, sorry to hear of you not losing, please dnt blame your band, the band doesnt make you lose weight just like that, remember its a tool & its how we use it to what we get in return from it, have you tried upping your calories?, you might not be losing because your not giving your body enough food (fuel) to cope with your fitness regime & its grabbing hold of every single calorie you are putting in your mouth & fighting against you & your band.. have you put your body in starvation mode? Do you have a nutrition at your hospital you can call & tell them whats not happening for you ? have you tried cutting back your exercises a little give your body a break, & dont forget you've prob turned fat into muscles too i hope you get to lose again soon, go back to your doc talk to someone professional
