I think a lot of the bariatric centers are finding that it is better to progress quicker. I went to my class and was given literature that was outdated 6 months later when I actually had my surgery. I seen the NUT right before my surgery and she went through my binder crossing out and correcting a lot of pages. I think they are finding that getting away from liquid type foods sooner might prevent scar tissue build up strictures.

Yeah, you'll hurt yourself if you try to do anything besides walking this early out. Just take it easy, you don't want to end up back in the hospital. I'm amazed you aren't on liquids only for at least 2 weeks. Every plan is different. Good luck.

Gas Pains After Surgery
Ed_NW replied to Recidivist's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, they pump your abdomen full of gas during the operation and that causes discomfort. The gas eventually works its way into your colon and out the usual exit. -
Minimal bowel movements after surgery
Ed_NW replied to Elizabeth Klisiewicz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're going but just in small amounts, that's normal. It will increase in volume as you progress to puree and food with more substance. -
Welcome and good luck moving forward. It's an exciting journey.

Everything Tastes Terrible
Ed_NW replied to deichburg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, it'll pass. I could only stomach a few things the first week then I could slowly tolerate more as time progressed. Protein water was easier than shakes at first. Plus you get your water in at the same time. -
Walmart and Sam's club sells Protein2o and then there's this stuff that has 40 grams of protein.

Heck no, I'm coming over. Save me some! -
The only people outside of my house that I would share my WLS details with would be somebody that I felt would benefit from the surgery. Another guy I told about it at work that is about my size and is not getting the surgery wants to race now. Bring it on! LOL

Sneezing and Other Weird Signs Your Pouch is Full
Ed_NW replied to 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgeon explained that during the surgery, the Vagus Nerve is cut and that's what causes the runny noses response when the pouch is full. Kind of interesting and tons of stuff on the interwebs about it. -
Liver Reduction Diet or Straight Liquid Pre-Op
Ed_NW replied to dparciak's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
High protein low carb was my pre-op diet. The surgeon told me my liver was perfect. I just had to do a liquid only the day before to clean the pipes. -
Submitting to insurance!

Good luck! I hope it all goes quickly for you and you can start the exciting journey to a new life. -
I wanted the surgery so I answered the questions exactly how I had to so I wouldn't be held up. Some people look at the Psych Eval as an opportunity to pour their soul out to a professional. I had an agenda and was determined to stay the course. Just decide before going in to see the therapist what your game plan is. If you want to be open about everything and hopefully get a referral to a Psychiatrist, do that before seeking WLS. That's just how I viewed it for whatever it's worth. Good luck with your journey.

My total bill for the surgery was $92,437.19 and my out of pocket was $750.00

You're doing it right. Keep walking and sipping water and they will boot you out of there in no time! Good luck with your recovery. -
Something I read really irritated me...
Ed_NW replied to angie_is_losing_it's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Celebrity's views on pretty much everything are distorted by the endless supply of money that most regular folk don't have. They have people raise their kids, cook their food, clean their house etc... We have to do these things ourselves and try to find time to learn and implement the "healthy and old fashioned way of loosing weight" (whatever that is). -
I was a fast eater and drinker. It took me about 3 weeks to learn to pace myself. It hurts when the RNY pouch gets too full. I learned to take a bite and I can feel it going to my pouch then take another then quit before it starts creeping back up the down pipe. It's definitely an art and a learning experience. Liquid doesn't seem to be a problem now that I'm in week 5 post-op.

How long did it take you to get your surgeries?
Ed_NW replied to WeGettingThere's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went and talked to my doctor about it and it was a done deal 8 months later which seemed like an eternity. Of course when you look back, it was nothing. -
Ulcers were an early concern but it was found later that you are more likely to have ulcer problems with orange juice. The main thing is to watch the pee chart and make sure you are staying hydrated. One cup a day wont cause any problems.

I'm getting RE-SLEEVED! Anyone else done this yet?
Ed_NW replied to alchaley's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You might be better off revising to Bypass. That's what I have and I love it. There are three other people in my life that are up to ten + years out with RNY and wouldn't change a thing. Good luck! -
Second day post-vsg, painful swallowing and sipping?
Ed_NW replied to ABawdyMermaid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For the VSG surgery they cram that bougie down your throat so they can make your sleeve the right size. It'll be sore for awhile. Upper back pain is common with all procedures because of trapped gas and I'm convinced when you're knocked out, they flop you on the operating table like a limp fish. -
I had RNY on the same day. Just take a step back and stick with puree for another week. My plan has me transitioning to soft foods next Monday. When you try soft foods like tuna or dark meat chicken, chew the crap out of it and eat one bite, wait a minute or two after swallowing and see how it feels. You have to get the sense of when your pouch is full. It takes practice. I'm still learning.

Sounds like you have what's going around where I live. A virus that causes a sinus infection. I'm at the tail end of it and the only thing that worked is this stuff.
