Well, since I've been growing ever more nauseated for the last two months (month 3-4 after surgery - first two months after surgery were fairly smooth sailing), doc has scheduled an upper GI for this Thursday. If that doesn't show anything, it is on to an endoscopy. I am NOT looking forward to drinking the contrast (I mean, really, that is just going to anger the nausea), but I'm hoping that they can find why I'm now nauseated 90% of my day and able to eat less each week (I'm now basically back to eating about how much I ate when I first got on soft foods). I did this major surgery so that I'd feel better. I really don't give a rat's behind how I look. And at this point, I feel WAY worse than before surgery and am actually taking more meds. So, here's hoping they can find something and fix it.

I use one (not that brand) as part of my overall pilates workout. I like the chair exercises, but am not sure I’d use it as my only home equipment.

Is there anything you wish you'd been told pre-op?
notmyname replied to Pippa1703's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also wish I’d known how bad my mouth would taste - no matter how much I brush my teeth/use the water pic/use mouthwash. It’s revolting. And I can’t imagine how my breath smells. :( -

I second the comment about constipation. I mean, doc told me that I could get constipated, but I'd never had that happen to me, so I just thought it meant having a little trouble going. TMI ALERT: I didn't realize that I'd ultimately end up for over an hour and a half on the toilet, exhausted, crying, and bleeding, and still unable to get the poop that was part way out all the way out. This happened twice. And I didn't learn until later that my doc would have liked me to go to the hospital when that happened. Nor did I realize that "getting it under control" still means that it takes me at least 20 mn to go. -
So, I was cleared to go back to exercising and I had my first post-surgery session with my personal trainer. We decided to start easy and not do abs just yet. So we did ALL arms. I may not be able to write tomorrow at work. Hurts so good Looking forward to Pilates on Sunday.

yesterdays NSV - I was able to buy a few items of clothes at a physical Old Navy store because I didn't need plus size . Today, I realized I needed to go and exchange a couple sweaters because they're too large! So I was able to buy XL sweaters! (even though I know ON runs large, still excited).

Its expensive, but I like my fitbit Aria. It automatically sends my weight to the app. That way, it logs my weight, but I can decide not to really focus on it if I don't want to that day.

How come everything now tastes so salty!!
notmyname replied to NH1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it is truely just your taste buds - likely. If it is that you've weaned yourself off salt, then it would if you start eating a lot of salt again. Instead of doing that, can you try making your favorite foods at home with less salt. Soups should be pretty easy to duplicate. -
Changed mind about WLS after pre-op diet?
notmyname replied to Panda333's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I honestly had the same thought during the pre-op diet. But I also thought back to previous times I'd dieted. Without an additional tool (WLS), I'd never been able to keep at it for long. So, even though I lost a lot during pre-op, I also knew that there was a 0% chance I would be able to live long term like I did on the pre-op diet (which was only liquids - shakes and yogurt, basically). Frankly, nor did I want to. -

It's also likely because for the last 18 days + the pre-op diet period, you haven't been eating pre-packaged or restaurant foods, which are notoriously high in salt. The average American diet has a lot of salt, and we get used to the taste. Since you've likely been on liquids (maybe purees) that don't have as much added salt, your taste buds have adjusted back to lower salt levels. -
I was kind of horrified that I had to tell my surgeon’s office this. Seems like something they should know, given how many bariatric patients have thyroid issues and take biotin.

I'm trying to decide how much oil to add to my tracker for my restaurant meal. I had about 2 oz of seared shrimp and less than 1/4 c. of charred broccoli. Clearly there was some oil involved. I'm thinking 1TBL is too much, but would rather over count than under count. Does that sound about right? Thanks!

Since I've been Debbie Downer lately, I thought I'd post something good. I hit a weight where I am now below 35 BMI. So, I am now considered Obese Class 1 - low risk. Considering I started out well into the high risk/morbidly obese category, that is a good thing to focus on.

Who's 4 months post op? I want stats!
notmyname replied to dndshepherd's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not really feeling proud or good. Frankly, I feel like warmed over **** most days. The reflux, nausea, and constipation are killing me. And all get worse by the day. The doc has ordered some tests to see if he can find the source. Nurse assures me that "This is not my life, this will pass." - God, I hope so, Because if it doesn't, this has NOT been worth it. I guess I'm proud that even though I feel bad all the time, I'm still getting my liquids/protein/vitamins in. So, there's that. I really am hoping that this is just a crappy phase and I'll come through it. And I will say at least I'm starting to see my sizes go down. It took freakishly long to drop a size. I'm still only 2 sizes down - and it took 80#. But I think its starting to move. Measurements show that my stomach has been losing slower than everything else, but is catching up. -

You look absolutely stunning! Will be 4 months on the 29th. So far, I'm down 80 from my high weight, 73 since I started the pre-op diet, and 59 from surgery. But I started a LOT higher than you (and am still higher than you). And it "helps" that I'm nauseated every day so am actually eating less than I was even 2 months ago. Since my surgery date, I've lost about 47% EWL and 8.5+ BMI points. -
Constant Struggles and Vomitting/Nasuea/Illness in general???
notmyname replied to JaminJ's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am really sorry. No advice, but I am in a similar place. Sleeved on 10/29. I'm nauseated 90% of the time and have reflux 100% of the time. Luckily, I haven't thrown up yet. I just feel like I need to. And I can eat less now than I could about a month out. Just got off the phone with my doc's nurse and looks like more testing is in order. As I was crying and saying how much I regretted this decision, she told me "This is not my life, this will pass." I just need that to be my mantra for now. -
OK, so I called my doc nearly in tears today because of the nausea and reflux. Talked to the nurse. After my last appt, she'd already talked to the doc about what to do if I called in. I now have an upper GI scheduled (if I can get permission from the Court to miss part of grand jury service), they're going to try to get my insurance to approve a different PPI, and I'll likely have to do an upper endoscopy at some point. They're already priming me for a possible conversion to bypass - which I DO NOT want. Here's hoping I can get off for the jury service for the morning and that they find something they can fix without converting. At this point, I'm at a devil you know kind of position - I know the problems I'm having with the sleeve, and am concerned about those I'd get with bypass (I actually have one friend who got the bypass who also has reflux - ugh).

So, I know this is a journey, and it'll start going the right way, and blah, blah, blah. So I just want to rant. I take my measurements once a month. As of today, I'm 3 months out from surgery. I lost 10.6 lbs this last month. And somehow I GAINED 1.25 inches on my waist. Also gained 0.25 inches in each calf. Lost inches everywhere else (except my neck, which is the exact same size it was before surgery), but still just a touch irritating. I know I measured at the end of the day vs. in the AM, so there's food in there, but it can't be 1.5 inches worth of food/liquid. OK, rant over. Focusing on the fact that I'm losing, and that I'm still almost 34 inches down over my entire body (bust, chest, waist, hips, both thighs, both calves, both upper arms, neck). And am down 70.6 lbs overall - roughly 50 since surgery.

I honestly wish I could eat a little more. I'd love to be able to get my protein without shakes, but there is no way for me to do it on most days without a shake and a glass of fairlife milk. And, frankly, my NUT would like me to be getting more like 90g protein instead of the 70g I'm getting now.
-
I'm at between 600-700 (but my NUT says I should be at more like 700-800 or more and getting a bit higher every week). But see my post above - I have been pretty nauseated and am eating less than I was able to about a month ago. I do Pilates 1-2x/week, do 30mn weight training with my trainer once a week, and do 30-40 mn on the treadmill or bike 3-4 times a week.

Approved frozen meals
notmyname replied to reesecup2626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On days you do cook, make a double or triple batch and freeze in individual portions. For example, I made ricotta bake last night. I doubled the recipe and baked it in an pan that cooks each one individually. So I have 8 individual ricotta bakes - 6 of them frozen for later. And I made some black bean soup and froze a bunch in 1/2 c. batches. Crustless quiche works well, as does lentil soup. It helps that I have a vacuum sealer, so the frozen food lasts longer. I don't always have time to cook, but I almost always have something in the freezer that I can grab and take with me. -
I am and take them religiously. Will have to look up gallbladder issues. I’ve been thinking it’s just the reflux making me nauseous
-
Ugh. Been having a rough couple weeks. I had a great first couple months. Now it seems to be going off the rails. I am nauseated every day - about 90% of my day. My reflux is not under control - even with 2 types of meds. And I seem to be able to eat less now than I could a month ago, and so I have to supplement more to get my protein. And the protein shakes just make me more nauseated. At least all the nausea/reflux means I'm eating 100% on plan and still very few calories. I'm going to call my doctor next week, but in reality I have jury duty for the next month and a half and I have to be there every day, so I won't be able to go in until the end of March. If this is how I'm going to feel, I'd really rather be fat. Lost about 80lbs (58 post surgery) and am really, really close to being Obese Class I (so low risk obese) - and if this doesn't all resolve itself soon, it will absolutely not have been worth it. OK, pity party over. I'm going back to my regularly scheduled programming of deciding this is a thing I did, it isn't reversible, so I need to look at the good side. I just needed to get the whining out.

Migraines after surgery? First aura
notmyname replied to dreamingofasleeve's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you eating more artificial sweeteners? I've found those give me terrible migraines. I've also switched from Depakote to Aimovig (a once a month shot) as a preventative - it has really helped. Which is good because I'm not allowed to have any of my rescue medications at the moment because they all have stuff I can't have. Also make sure you're getting enough water and not getting dehydrated. -
Also did puréed egg salad. Basically two hard boiled eggs, 1 Tbl each of mayo and Greek yogurt. Lasted a couple meals.
