Pre-Op - Full vs Clear liquids...

Have you tried Millie's Sipping Broth? They're basically tea bags to make flavored broths. They have several flavors - Curry Spice, Spicy Tortilla, Thai Lemongrass, Tomato Basil, and Delight Pho. I haven't done it yet, but I bet you could mix some unflavored protein powder in after they've brewed. It gives you a nice savory flavor on either clear or full liquids (at least my doc allows me to use unflavored protein powder in my clear liquids - yours might not).
  2. October 29, if I don't chicken out. BMI 45, pre-diabetic.
  3. I have my last appointment with my doctor on Friday. I'll have to make my final decision on which surgery. I've been pretty firm on wanting the sleeve (and not wanting the RNY). He said he'd be willing to do the sleeve, but that there is a chance my GERD would get worse and I'd have to have it revised into a RNY. Anyone have GERD before surgery and have a good result? Thanks!

GERD but want to have sleeve

To sosewsue - maybe I’m not using the forum correctly? Is this not a place to ask for other’s personal experiences? If I’ve misunderstood, I apologize.

GERD but want to have sleeve

Thanks. I have read the research on esophageal cancer and GERD. Basically about 5-10% of those with GERD get Barrett's esophagus, and Only about 1% of those people will get esophageal cancer. That’s a pretty slim chance. Not 0%, but still low. I have endoscopes every 5 years or so and so far, all is good.

GERD but want to have sleeve

Thanks all. Lots to think about. I've done a lot of research, but appreciate the first hand experiences.

GERD but want to have sleeve

My reservations really have to do with the fact that the couple people I know who have had RNY have had really, really bad experiences and the couple people I know who have had the sleeve have had good ones. Mentally, I know that this is just anecdotal. But it just makes me concerned. And I've read that the RNY has worse side effects than the sleeve, even if the chance of side effects are low.
