First restaurant post-op
notmyname replied to ummyasmin's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Can you call the venue and ask what the menu is? That way you can be prepared. And if nothing else, you can eat something or drink a protein shake before if there isn't anything that works. -
WOw - this is great - congrats! I've lost 37 since pre-op (45 total) and my clothes basically fit the same! Mainly because I'm losing from my bust and legs. I'm sure my hips/waist will eventually follow suit, but for now everything still fits, just looks too big in the legs. It is kind of comic. And I have clothes in smaller sizes from when I gained, so its not even like I'd need to buy new ones!

I was sleeved 10/29 and I’m also down 23 since surgery, 35 since liquid. I feel great - when is the last time you lost 23 lbs in 5 weeks? That’s an average of over 4.5 lbs/week? You’re doing great. Everyone has stalls - it’ll break eventually. Just keep working the program.

Loosing weight but not seeing it
notmyname replied to DetDet's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Unfortunately, because I appear to have lost all of my weight in my legs and chest (40lbs so far), my clothes fit exactly the same at the wait. No chance could I put on a smaller size. One day, though. -
I find most of them OK with a blender bottle. When I actually put them in a blender, they foam up and it takes FOREVER for the foam to go down to where it is drinkable (note, I generally drink the lemonade and fuzzy navel).

What was everyone's first puree ?
notmyname replied to theresahyatt19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ricotta bake (add in some pureed spinach) pureed black beans with a bit of cheese pureed sweet potatoes pureed egg salad scrambled eggs -
OMG - best dinner ever. I can't really share this anywhere, so sorry to post about food. Based on the Fire-Roasted Tilapia recipe on Bariatric Foodie. 2 oz Tilapia, 2 fl. oz fire roasted tomatoes (pureed so its easier to digest), some diced onions, and cajun spices. SO good. And was able to cook the fish from frozen since I forgot to defrost it this morning. I am SO thankful that I can still eat spicy foods! Added some green beans and had a nice (small) full meal.

First - 6 lbs in a week and a half is GREAT. Likely your body gained some weight from swelling/fluid while in the hospital, so you're still working on that. One thing that has helped me feel better is that I created a chart (mine is in Google Sheets, but Excel would work too). It has my weight lost on it. Then I added a line that has a trendline from my surgery weight to the goal my doctor gave me (for me 60% EWL in 12 months). Even though I've had a couple weeks where I "only" lost 1.5 lbs or so, I am still WAY under the goal trend line. It helps me look at the big picture. See below (with the actual weight removed). The dark blue line shows my actual losses. Light blue is the trend of my actual looses. Red is the trend if I want to lose 60% EWL in a year.

i also haven't been through this, but call your NUT. S/he should be able to guide you through a healthy pregnancy for both you and the baby. S/he'll help you figure out how to eat healthy meals while providing enough nutrition for both of you while not overeating. Good luck and congrats!

Could you start with softer foods. I was sleeved 10/29 and I started soft foods last week. My doc wants us to start with well cooked soft veggies (I'm having luck with zucchini, sweet potatoes, and spinach so far) and really soft fish/eggs. I don't eat chicken, but the doc doesn't want us on chicken until a few weeks later because it is harder to swallow/digest. And raw veggies and some cooked veggies (broccoli, for example) are a no-go for now. And my doc said if something doesn't go down well to wait a few more weeks to try that food. Good luck.

Thanks. I'm not a huge fan of driving. If I don't find something up here, maybe I'll check it out. -
Losing Weight in a Different Way
notmyname replied to Swanton_Bomb's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've also noticed that I've lost in different places. I'm about 20 pre-/20 post-surgery so far. I've lot most of my inches in my breasts/chest (not surprising), and a fair amount in my legs, which were by far the thinnest part of me. Almost none in my waist/hips - all my clothes still fit the same there (and sag like nuts in the legs). Plus, all my rings are now too big for my ring fingers, so I've had to move them to my middle finger. Still pleased with progress, just funny how its coming off. -
Travel vacation post op

You can take protein powders through security. Depending on where you will be in DC, you'll likely be able to buy protein drinks here, too. Target has Premier. Also, my recollection is that you CAN carry on "medically necessary liquids". Its worth contacting TSA, but I think you'd need a letter from your doctor saying you'd had a medical procedure and require the specific liquid, then declare it before you start TSA screening. You can take a picture or send a question to AskTSA on Facebook Messenger or Twitter. They answer questions from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET weekdays; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekends/holidays. If you can eat eggs - a lot of the fast causal places will have eggs. I was stuck out one day and got an egg white cup at Cosi - FAR too much food (think 12 oz of egg whites), but I ate what I was supposed to and tossed the rest. -
How often do you do measurements/progress pics?
notmyname replied to notmyname's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was 295 at surgery and my doc sticks with the average 60% EWL for what to plan to lose. I wore the same clothes and did a front and side pic each time (although I turned the wrong way for the pic today. Maybe I'll stick to doing it once a month and just see what I see. -
So, I know this is not at the store, but every now and again I make myself some hot cocoa - 1 cup fairlife fat free milk, 1 TBL unsweetened cocoa, 1 tsp stevia (or 1 packet), and a splash of vanilla. Also helps with the protein. do you like crystal light or those mio flavor drops for your water? What about other types of teas? I don't typically like herbal teas, but I got this Bengal spice tea and it is really nice. Reminds me of when I was in India. And some orange tea that's also tasty.

Hope I did the right thing?

I am also surprised that your doc didn't talk to you about reflux. I saw three surgeons before I choose which one I would use and each talked to me about my reflux. One wouldn't even do the sleeve on someone with reflux. The other two suggested that I do an endocsopy/EGD, manometry, Ph monitoring, and biopsy to see if they could suss out the causes of my reflux. Ultimately, based on those studies, they both recommended the bypass, but were comfortable doing the sleeve with a hiatal hernia repair. I'm only a month out, so it is too soon to tell the long term outcome, but my reflux is still controlled on my meds. I'm told that could change as I add more foods, so we'll see. However, I would not have done the sleeve had I not had a really good, long discussion with my doctor on the pros/cons, the data on reflux after surgery, etc. And, honestly, I can't say yet whether I made the right decision for me. Given the chance of reflux afterwards, I can't recommend what someone else should do. But I think taking a step back to think is a good thing to do. Good for you for advocating for yourself. Maybe find another surgeon for a second opinion? Or see if you can have an appointment with your surgeon just to talk about the reflux issues? -
I was required to start walking as much as possible immediately after surgery. As soon as I could, I got up to at least 30mn/day. When I went back to work 3 weeks after surgery, I started doing at least 30 mn on the treamill. I'm hoping to get cleared for real exercise at my 6 week appointment next week.

Bought myself a new Fitbit to celebrate making it a month after surgery. Helps that it was on sale at Costco. :)

Hey all, I've been making Eggface's ricotta bake, but haven't figured out what size pan works. A regular loaf pan is too large. A mini loaf pan is too small. I feel like Goldilocks here. Any advice on what size pan to use? Thanks!
-
Welp, i figured out why my clothes all fit the same. Did my measurements today (1 month after surgery). Hips/waist basically the same. Bust/chest/legs have lost a fair amount. Which is weird because I usually lose pretty proportionally (except the bust, because, y'know, women are like that)

ricotta bake question - pan size?
notmyname replied to notmyname's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I add a layer of sauteed and pureed spinach (so ricotta, spinach, ricotta, marinara, mozzarella). I also put the mozz on the top in the last 5 minutes of baking or it burns. Might be because I use a counter top oven. It is SO good. -

Thanks! That’s a great idea! -
If you have a neurologist, talk to him/her. I get debilitating migraines and if I don't take a preventative med, I would get them daily. Mine was able to prescribe the new once a month injectible prevention med (Aimovig) and get me a coupon so that it's free. He was also able to get me my other prevention med (Depakote) in liquid form. For acute migraines, I'm not able to take triptans, anything with caffeine, or NSAIDs, so he gave me a few pills of a narcotic pain reliever in case I got one of my brain buster migraines. Luckily the Aimovig is working like a charm, so I haven't needed to take the narcotics. If they work for you, I think you'd be able to take the triptan drugs after surgery, but check with your surgeon.

It is interesting. A week or so ago when folks posted their goal weights, mine was WAY higher than a lot of folks because my doctor measures success as losing 60% EWL - which for me is still just barely obese. But, you know, I'm OK with that. You're doing great (we've lost about the same - I'm at about 16% EWL).

Everything tastes gross! Help!
notmyname replied to HoneyBeBrave's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc says that of something doesn't work for you, try it again in a couple of months. I wouldn't force yourself to eat stuff you can't stand. Some things that have worked for me: Ricotta bake (google eggface's ricotta bake). Pureed black beans with a bit of cheese Lentils Homemade cocoa (1c fairlife fat free milk, 1TBL unsweetened cocoa, 1 packet stevia) eggs white fish yogurt - no sugar added (maybe try different flavors to cut up the monotony) - I like Oikos tripple zero and Chobani Good luck - I'm sorry you're going through this.
