  1. Cream of rice is a hot cereal. You can find it in the cereal aisle by the oatmeal. It's not that great but it is something different. Bonnie
  2. Hi, The problem isn't so much being weak from the diet but you aren't allowed to do the heavy lifting required of nurses. Most doctors won't allow you to lift over 15 pounds for 2-4 weeks. Our hospital won't allow you to come back to work if you have lifting restrictions. Bonnie

    Bad...bad fill today

Hi, I had my third fill yesterday. The first was 3.2 cc, the second 1.5. When the doctor withdrew before the fill, I was at 4.0. She said that was not unusual to lose some in the tubing etc. Anyway, she tried putting 1 cc in and I almost threw up. She kept backing off and finally we ended up with only adding .2 cc. I was a little upset because I thought I would need more and now I am less than I was before (4.7) but it seemed that was all I could tolerate. Afterwards, I felt nauseated and bloated. I was wondering if I would have to have more taken out. By last night, after drinking water slowly all day, I was a little hungry and the nausea was gone. I did have some tomato soup with no problems. We will see how today goes. I have had two cups of coffee this morning with no problems although I feel full. I am going to try some jello this morning and soup for lunch. Even though my doctor said I only have to be on liquids for 24 hours, I am going to wait until tomorrow to have any solids. I do not want to feel like I did yesterday! Bonnie

    Cereal and Milk???

My nutritionist told me not to eat cereal with milk since it won't keep me full. I can eat them separately but I probably won't bother. I usually eat eggs or cottage cheese or some other high protein thing for breakfast.

    3 days on liquid diet

Hi, The reason you should do it is because it is a good start on the rest of your life. I lost 12 pounds on the liquid pre-op diet, my liver was perfect (I have a fatty liver and elevated liver enzymes), and I was used to the liquid diet after surgery. I have lost 8 more pounds since the surgery on May 19. It is the first time I have ever stuck to anything and I am so proud of myself. It was worth it. Even if you cheat a little bit now, you can't after the surgery because you could cause irreversable harm to your pouch. So, the best thing is keep trying. It will get better soon!
  7. I was banded on May 12 and now that my diarrhea is gone I am feeling great. No pain at all. I lost 14 pounds on 2 week preop liquid diet and 8 pounds since surgery for a total of 22 pounds. I am so happy! I was on Clear liquids for 5 days and full liquids until Monday. I went back to work on May 20 and was just a little tired. I am looking forward to Monday when I can start on pureed food. I think I am going to try scrambled eggs first. Bonnie
  8. I was banded on May 12. I was able to drink water or anything right away. I think you should call your doctor if you can't even get water down. You might be totally swollen shut. Do you have anything in your band? You might need an unfill. I would not take a chance. Bonnie
  9. I was banded on May 12. The only real problem I had was severe diarrhea until yesterday. I got some medicine for that from my surgeon and it finally has stopped. I started on full liquids yesterday (soup, milk, protein drinks, drinkable yogurt). I will be on that until May 26. I am not hungry at all and feeling great. I have no pain anymore. I could go back to work tomorrow but will wait until Tuesday after my one week checkup with the doctor. I have only lost one pound even with all of the diarrhea! Oh well, I know it will start coming off. I feel so lucky that it hasn't been that bad. Bonnie:smile2:

    Diarrhea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I was banded on May 12 and went home the same day. The next day I started with diarrhea and it hasn't totally stopped. I was going 12-15 times a day. As soon as I drank anything (I'm on clear liquids), it would run right through me. My doctor was concerned so she had me do a stool culture to make sure I didn't have an infection (c. difficile). Thank goodness that was negative so she has started me on a prescription for the diarrhea. It has helped some but I still had diarrhea yesterday. Nothing so far today but I have just had water and jello. I decided to try a protein drink now and see what happens. She said sometimes patients do get diarrhea because the diet is all liquid. I decided to try something else in my full liquid diet since I was scheduled to start it yesterday. We'll see what happens! I can't stay on clear liquids forever. Surprisingly I have only lost one pound since surgery. I am sure I am in starvation mode. I don't even feel hungry. One thing with the diarrhea, you get rid of all of the gas very quickly and I have no pain. I think you should call your doctor about the diarrhea if you continue to have it. Bonnie

    New 60+ Thread

Hi, I am 62 and had my lap band on May 12. Every thing went well. I went home that night and slept great. Yesterday, I had a lot of gas pain but the biggest problem was diarrhea. My doctor had given me a laxative because of the barium and that worked with a vengance! The one good thing is that today I have very little gas pain! My blood pressure is very low today so I am not going to take my blood pressure meds (89/54) until that goes up a little. I am not having any trouble getting the fluids in (clear liquids for 4 days). I did drink a bottle of Isopure low carb yesterday (it is clear). It has 40 grams of protein in it and doesn't taste too bad. I am going to drink extra fluids today to get my pressure up. Othewise, I am so happy I was banded. I think we older bandsters are realistic about what we have to do for our health and I think it will keep my motivated. Of course, I will also be happy to look better. Good luck to all of you who are getting banded. It wasn't that bad. The journey has started! Bonnie:thumbup:
  12. Hi, I was banded on 5/12. The surgery went well. I had lost 14 pounds on the pre-op liquid diet. I was so glad I did it because I was worried about my fatty liver. The doctor said the liver looked good. I was back in my room by 11:30 and didn't have that much pain so I started walking. They wouldn't let me drink anything until I went to radiology for my barium swallow. I had no problems with that. I did get one dose of pain medicine in the afternoon and went home that night at 6:00. Originally I was going to stay until the next day but the doctor felt I was doing so well that I could go home. Yesterday I had more pain from the gas but the biggest problem was diarrhea. She had given me a laxative to take because of the barium. I also drank a 20 ounce bottle of Isopure zero carb (I am on clear liquids for 4 days). I had no problem getting my fluids in. The one good thing after all of the diarrhea is that I have very little gas pain!. We'll see what today brings. My blood pressure is very low (89/54) so I am not going to take my meds until that goes up a little. I am going to really increase the fluids today also. Anyway, I am so happy I have done this. It is so worth it! Good luck to the rest of the May bandsters. Bonnie
