    So MUCH Pain! Help

I actually had so much gas pain tht I went and got a chair massage and it made a world of difference. They concentrated on my shoulders, where all the gas had risen to, and back and neck, and I felt alot better.
  2. I am having my surgery on June 13. I would love a mentor/buddy- someone who has had the surgery, perhaps 6 months to a year ago, who can help me through what is to come by sharing their experiences. I prefer a female, since our issues may match better. I am 49 years old, so an older female, near my age, would be best.
  3. the day after my surgery, I rode with my ex husband to take my kids to camp. I was a little sore, but did fine. Just don't take the heavy duty pain meds.

Thursday, June 5th...I'm sooo nervous!!! HELP!

Hi, just wanted an update on how your surgery went. I am getting banded on the 13th and am also having doubts, fears, etc. I think that is normal. And, even if this is a "glorified diet", at least it will be a tool to be successful that I never had before. Karen
  10. Tomorrow, I start my 4 week Optifast diet. That will be the hardest part for me!!!! Getting banded through Sparrow Weight management in Lansing. Anyone else go through there?

need incouragement lapband buddy in michigan

I know that you told me you went through Sparrow. I am getting banded on June 13. I'd love to have you as my mentor, since we are both from Lansing. I am a 49-year old woman, single mother of two. Tell me more about you? Perhaps we will see each other at the Sparrow support groups. Do you go? How do we email each other outside of this forum?

    Not Going To Make It

I had a headache the first 3 days, and had to take my migraine medicine. Then, the headaches disappeared and I have actually felt better and had more energy. I've been on Optifast now for 3 weeks. it does get better.

    liquid diet..........

I know, my surgery is scheduled for June 13 (friday the 13th), and I am really nervous about dying during surgery too and leaving my children motherless!!! The closer the surgery gets, the more nervous and scared I get!

June 13 in Michigan for me

I am starting my third week of Optifast and doing okay- only cheated once by eating a strawberry. Imagine that- eating a strawberry is cheating!!! I am getting more and more nervous- just read a book that said that the mortality rate for bariatric surgery is 1 in 150! That sounds high to me. And, getting banded on Friday the 13th doesn't help my confidence much either! I am still trying to figure out how to get the ticker thing.

I had to be on protein shakes for 4 weeks pre-op. I'm using Optifast and it actually tastes pretty good, but I'm craving something to crunch!!!

Pre-Ops started - The fun begins

I'm on the same plan!!! I agree, the strawberry tastes awful. Do you also get a protein bar each day? those are my saving grace- gives me a chance to chew. I have to be on optifast for 4 weeks prior to my June 13 surgery. So far, i'm doing okay, but it is hard!!! Where are you being banded? I'm going through Sparrow Weight Management in Lansing, Dr. Yenemula.

How did your surgery go? I'm going through Sparrow too, so I'd love to hear your experiences. I'm just meeting with the surgeon tomorrow, so I don't know how long it will be to get scheduled for surgery, insurance authorization, etc. How long did it all take for you? How was the optifast?

have you had your surgery yet? how long did the authorization for insurance take? I have my surgery consultation tomorrow. Now that I've made the decision, I want to move forward!!
  25. Hi. I am just getting started with the lap band procedure- going through Sparrow. I was surprised at how many people from mid-michigan chose to go to Flint or Port Huron when Sparrow was in town. Can anyone tell me why- maybe there's something I don't know here that I should be aware of with Sparrow. At this point, I'm awaiting insurance approval- Blue Cross, and I hope it's not going to be a battle. My BMI is 45 and I have GERD, hip and knee problems, and borderline diabetic, so I need this surgery. I was real skinny all my life, but in 1999, after having 2 kids in two years and a hysterectomy, I quit smoking for good and it was all uphill (in pounds) from there. I've tried every diet known to mankind (although I didn't keep detailed records like I'm supposed to provide for insurance approval because I thought each diet would be the magic one!). I haven't told anyone except 2 friends that I'm looking into this. My mother would be really worried that I'm doing this, so I'm not going to tell my parents until I am all approed and ready to go so they have less time to worry. I am, after all, 49 years old. I am recently divorced and ready to start a new phase of my life, after spending the last 10 years of my life watching from the sidelines as my kids grew up, unable to participate in most of their activities because of their weight. When we went to a Water park this winter and I couldn't get off one of the rafts, I was so embarrassed and that was a real wakeup call to how this weight is inhibiting me from enjoying my children fully. I'd love to hear from other michigan banders!!! (and others, of course)
