KLONK KLONK KLONK KLONK KLONK KLONK KLONK KLONK KLONK. I got a fever....

I personally don't think targetting a person helps. Maybe she didn't word the subject well. I think the question is very much "why / how are people so uninformed about this life changing event?". Thats a really good question. Even if an individual does no research, they should have received an abundance of accurate and effective material from the medical professionals. This procedure isn't cheap, and it is a complete life change. Our medical profession seems to do a poor job at relating that message to the patients. When you see questions like: "how much fill should I have?" "when do I get my first fill?" "what should I be eating?" "Why does my port hurt?" "why aren't I losing?" "how long should I do the pre-op diet?" It starts to make you wonder just what the heck doctors are telling their patients. Even more importantly is why these questions aren't being addressed to the medical professionals. Whether you research or not, you shouldn't be able to have the surgery without your surgeon preparing you for the emotional and physical upheaval that is coming into your life. I think it important for everyone to keep asking questions if they don't know (or can't find) the answer. But it is even more important that the bigtime questions be directed at the people best trained to answer them. Penni's "Be your own Patient Advocate" says this in a much better way than I have.

I'll toss in two cents. If each of member of LBT asks one questions which could be perceived to be dumb, and there are tens of thousands of users, thats a LOT of 'dumb' questions. I think that a lot of the information provided by the surgical teams and supporting documentation aren't user friendly and confuse rather than explain. I also think that the sheer volume of posts on this forum is daunting and those who aren't used to message boards might post a question, not out of being lazy, but to get an expedited answer. We may see a post as lazy, repetitive or even 'dumb', but if we give them the answer they need we have helped an individual. One other thing I'll touch on is text. No tone of voice, no inflections. Just the words themselves. What might look like a dumb question might be someone crying out for support (or the kick in the pants). Example: Well, duh, thats a dumb question... wait... thats not a question - thats someone asking for support and advice on what they can do to change their behavior... To sum up... I don't think there is a 'dumb' question. I think there is just a ton of information and we need to help people find the answer. What might be dumb to one person, could be a really important question to someone else. Benefit of the doubt is a good thing :confused:

I was initially reluctant about the surgery, primarily on the grounds of hating the idea of someone sawing my wife's stomach open. After giving it a lot of rational thought, I decided the risks of me losing my wife in surgery were far less than a weight related premature death. So I gave my full support for the procedure. I don't have any concerns about her leaving me, and if she gets unwelcome attention, then whoever wants to hit on her, will have to do it with me hitting them I guess it came to (for me): Do you want a slim healthy wife, or no wife at all from an obesity related premature death? I think 'no brainer' covers that

:) Erm... whatever the hell that meant... Yes Heather, same weight at the present moment and initial weight. Mine is 'sort' of a bit vague. I didn't weigh consistantly but I did start out at 307. So yep, we both started at 307, we both now weigh 265. We will drift apart soon, I promise :Banane40: If not, and I get down to 130 pounds - I'll be one skinny bastard.

Hello... My name is Marlin and I'm a clown fish.... wait.. crap... lets try that again... Okay, I'm Paul (Man I dislike my name), I'm.... 33?? yeah.. 33. I'm married to P'Nut and she tolerates my insanity which proves we were made for each other. I was fat when my Ma produced me, and I pretty much managed to stay that way until present day. Okay a mini-bio. Born in the UK. Lived in an itty bitty town on the south coast of England (Gosport, Hampshire). I was stolen away from the UK by P'Nut who figured she couldn't get the English Paul she wanted (that's McCartney) so I'd do. I've worked many trades, starting out in Pharmaceutical Biology, then food Chemistry, then Food Biology (EAW), Military Administration and now... I lead a bunch of wacky engineers testing software and hardware for functionality and localization. As P'Nut mentioned. 2 Kids, 1 grandkid. All splendid. Our animals are about as odd as we are. We have Abby (a.k.a The Auld Bitch) who is the most wonderful loving cat who will at any moment bite you. We also have Sprout (formerly known as Hobbs, Formerly known as Princess - he really wasn't fond of his first name). He takes on the typical sanity level of the household - his current trick is burrying his face underwater in his bowl, and miaowing loudly. That about wraps it up (for now)! Well... of course there is this: 307 / 265 (-42.0)

Way to go Gurl :cheer2::rockon::whoo::whoo::rockon::cheer2:

I think it should be an optional start weight. Mainly because I don't have a surgery date! :confused: As for the name "Gone for Good" works for me! It shows the intention that we want this weight "gone for good". One other problem with me going with my highest ever weight is I still can't figure out how to subtract 265 from "E". :confused:

Summary of the week: Moderate success in increasing caloric intake. Did between 20 to 30 minutes on the traadmill 4 times in a week. Weigh in: 265 (-3.5)

Welcome to LBT Annamarie!

You certainly are not a dork. The amount of information is totally overwhelming. The sizes of band are based on the size of your stomach. Each person has a different size stomach and a different thickness of stomach wall. The surgeon fits the band that is going to work best for the individual based on that criteria. The vanguard is the largest size band (I can't remember the stoma opening but I thought it was 13cm - some can answer that much better than I). The smallest band is the 9.75cm which means the internal diamter of the band has a 9.75cm opening. I hope that helps
-
Inamed make the trademarked Lap-Band. There are four sizes that I know of. The 9.75cm (4cc fill capacity), 10cm(4cc fill capacity), 11cm(9cc fill capacity) and the Vanguard(10cc fill capacity). I've not heard of an Emmi (other than the patient education service). As for what fill level goes in, depends on surgeon and the way they like to work it. Thats all I can offer

Oh you cheater you! Though this is the best "I cheated" post that I've read! Awesome job!! :whoo: :scared: :whoo:

Alright this used to be called "My small and pathetic NSVs!" but they told me off and said it wasn't small and pathetic... I did try to revise the thread name but it won't let me :scared: So I have two NSV's which gave me a bit of a smile today. Here they are in all their glory.... 1. I am wearing my old workout shirt today. This shirt once was "toit loik a toiger" (tight). It is now looking like a comical dress that comes halfway down my thighs. 2. I just got back from the grocery store. Normally after hauling the cases of Water and all the groceries, plus walking around the store, my heart is beating like a snare drum from a thrash metal band. Today after checking my pulse... it wasn't even off of resting (thanks dreadmill). Okay, thats my teeny little flag waving for the day. Feel free to share yours
-
:rockon: That is awesome! Okay, okay! No NSV is small. I changed the thread name Thanks for the cheers, they made both my eyes crinkle at the corners :scared: If people keep up being so nice... I might even be able to get these craggy features into a semblance of a smile... but I'm not promising

Way to go Nykee!! :whoo::whoo::scared::clap::whoo::whoo:

Good luck on your journey!

According to Inamed's documentation the Initial fill level for a VG band is about 4cc (compared to the 1cc for the smaller 9.75 and 10cm bands). Some doctors take it much more slowly than that from what I've obeserved in people's signatures. Don't know if that second hand knowledge is of use to you, but there ya go :confused:

Here's my typical menu: 1st breakfast: 1/2 cup fibre one, 1/2 cup skim milk (I hate eating in the mornings) 2nd breakfast: 1 pack of "heart healthy" blueberry instant oatmeal. Lunch: a Tuna lunch pack by Starkist. Afternooon tea / dinner: a Healthy Choice meal. Supper/snack: Half a can of mixed fruit / peaches / pears. I eat roughly every 3 hours. I'm trying hard to keep my metabolism ticking all the time. My full daily menu comes in at right around 1000 calories with around 70g of Protein. Once I start moving Iron I'll be adding a Protein shake to get me up to about 100g of protein and 1200 calories. Oh and the Kcal is the standard unit world wide :confused: 4200J / 1 KCal. I guess we'd be eating 1.2 million calories a day. sweeet.

Even me??? :couch2: Seriously, I'd like to join in, but if it bums anyone out - for any reason - just lemme know and I'll just keep on doin' my own thang.
-
Yeah, thats kind of what is concerning me. The flight from the UK to the west coast is 10 or 11 hours.
-
Here's a quote from the Inamed's Lap-Band Data Sheet: I've actually been wondering about this for quite a while as my wife wants to force me into a trip to the UK this year. Has anyone done extended air travel and had to have an unfill? I plan on asking her surgeon next time we see him, but I'd be interested to hear what everyone else has learned. :couch2:

Just on the Munchy snack thing. My wife suggested nibbling on half a cup of dry Fibre One. Its sort of sweet and crunchy and can give your hands something to do. Being unbanded I've no idea how well that would work with the band. I also keep a lot of instant oatmeal around because its quick, easy and pretty filling. Dunno if that helps or not :couch2:
