    Whoaaaaaaa... Locking threads at will?

I dislike the bickering as well. Touble is people just can't always get along. I'm sure all of this will become calm soon. I'm sorry the board has had to deal with ugly words and arguments. Hang in there

    Forum Rules and Guidelines

Can I ask when is it time to delete a thread? Because a post where PhotoNut was called a "f**king c**t" is still very much present, and the person has gone without reproach other than the thread being locked. When does a person get publicly rebuked? I've seen people be rebuked for the mildest of things, and I've seen the most egregious things go by without a word other than "this is locked". Help me understand please?

    Memorial Day - Remember

Given the reason for the day, I thought everyone might enjoy this poem (for those who've never read it). My Father would recite this to me (from memory) on many an occasion, but most usually on Armistice Day (the 11th hour, 11th of November - the official end of World War 1 and the European and Commonwealth version of Memorial day). This poem was written by Lt. Col. John McCrea MD, IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. I've been to the war graves in Europe. I will never forget.

    Question for Boisians

I say head North and check out Stanley and Red Fish lake at the foot of the Sawtooth Mountains. Absolutely stunning. Bit of a drive but well worth it, in my opinion. Depending on when you come to town - Silver City isn't so far away and its a nifty cool ghost town thingy. Go to dinner with the Idaho Bandsters....? Maim small furry creatures because they are small and furry (seems like this is the state sport - whistle piggin' - I've not participated). Boise is actually a nice little city, downtown is pretty relaxed, lots of touristy type places. the state Capitol building is pretty interesting. There's my 2 cents

I'd sort of decided to give up on posting my stats (for a cornucopia of reasons). But I need the motivation H 307 C 240.0 (-67 total, -1.5 this week)

Freedom. Everyone is free to break the rules. They are free to say anything they want. They have - in detail. We are also free to start fights, riots and commit horrific crimes. There is a consequence for using that freedom mind you. I personally feel that any forum is run by a benevolant dictator (no disrespect Alex). The board is owned by an individual, and that individual sets the terms of use. Those terms can be obeyed, or alternately, they can be obeyed. I think there have been many splendid comments made in this thread, and a few snide comments thrown in. I personally still get verbal barbs directed at me, and I'm fine with that. My focus is on the lap-band, and the opinions and comments that come from it. The theatrics and drama I can cheerfully live without.

    Hard facts?

In my view statistics are more than a little ephemeral. For example, in my "Erosion" thread, I base the statistics on "Facts". Unfortunately the "Facts" are driven by massive variables. X number of people have experienced erosion. Great. Now... how many of them had the 9.75cm band, the 10cm... the 11cm... the vanguard... Swedish... How many were "compliant" with the bandster rules... How many had variations in their post operative diet... was it six weeks, three weeks...did they do a pre-op diet... I love statistics, and I love facts. I also acknowledge that facts based on variables are not true facts, The statistics show a very broad spectrum of data, based on very broad variables. While they can be a guideline, they certainly can't speak on what will occur to an individual. Charge on madly!
  13. I update the stats currently on an "wow I have 5 minutes to spare!!" basis. Work has been mental of late and I just haven't had the chance to keep them up as often as I would like. Your record is in the stats and the numbers currently displayed are correct. The values that were already on the first page were already correct and included your record. 17 people have recorded results against Ortiz, 2 of which eroded.

C-reactive protein (CRP) - in a nutshell. It is a protein produced by the body at times of inflammation and infection. Other causes can be high blood pressure, pregnancy, being overweight, trauma, stress / mental issues etc (anything that puts stress on the body). Having a high CRP reading can be indicative of increased chance of Cardio Vascular Disease. Continued high levels of CRP cause "Fatty plaque" which lays down in the arteries, increase chance of stroke and heart attack. Good ways to counteract an increase CRP level is with Vitamin E, Fish Oil, Flaxseed, lose weight, and of course, good old exercise. There, now everyone knows what all this darn mumbo jumbo is. I'll be scoffing the E and heading to the gym to continue my light cardio and muscle strengthening. I guess the major reason the doc is putting of chatting about this, is I am already doing the things I am supposed to to correct it. Now, stop distracting me, I'm supposed to be working.

Woo I got my blood work back from my physical... Here's a summary: You aren't dead.... yet! Damn my doctor was right! Actually, and more seriously, my bloodwork is really good except one small aspect. My C-reactive protein is slightly elevated. This reveals my #1 peeve about the medical profession. "Your C-reactive protein is slightly elevated, we will discuss this at your follow up appointment in 3 months time". Fantastic, I'll just go ahead and worry for 3 stinking months about what "C-reactive Protein" does! (Actually, I already know what it does, and what I need to do about it, but still the frickin doc's office could have told me!!) "Fumes quietly and stomps off back to work"

    Cold Stone Creamery

I -used- to love coldstone. Now even the idea of spooning frozen fat and sugar into my mouth nauseates me. I feel bad for the folks still trapped inside this web of temptation.

It's an interesting fact that we (the masses) view a slow metabolism as a bad thing. It's only a bad thing if there is an abundance of food. If we were to go back to being hunter / gatherers stalking the land to find a meal, we'd beat the skinny bastards in the survival game. A slow metabolism is actually working super efficiently. We WANT less efficiency! we demand our metabolisms speed up and stop getting nutrtion out of a frickin stone!

    Tv shows

I rarely find the shows I want to watch on TV as my favorites are both from the UK, and from the past. 1. Red Dwarf I - VIII (haven't seen VIII yet, but it arrives soon!) 2. Blackadder I - IV 3. Bottom And now the stuff I can watch on the tube... 4. Star Trek Next Gen. (Only thing worth watching on G4) 5. Sherlock Holmes (Biography Channel - no idea why) 6. Top Gear (odd, can't drive, love to watch shows about cars) (Science Channel) 8. Poirot (Biography channel as well - wierd) 9. Pretty much anything on History Channel or History International 10. The military Channel - things going boom. Sweeeet.

    What are your Summer plans?

Summer Plans: Sweat Wait for Autumn. Sweat some more. Shower the sweat off. Start sweating again before drying off from the shower. Spending a lot on a thin bastard to come and repair the air conditioning on the hottest day of the year. oh... and sweat. Summer is natures dentist, in my mind. I hate it, but I deal with it.

    Body in Starvation Mode

I think thats a better descriptor of what is going on. Once you get down to true starvation level of survival higher brain functions begin shutting down and a more primal survival instinct takes over. So unless you are going to club your neighbour over the head and scoff 'em for supper I think survival works best. The process, however you describe it though, clearly exists. Too little calories and the body does what it can to survive in the best way possible. Slow the metabolism and start extracting nourishment from wherever it is easy to consume (protein is easier than fat).
