    Self defence?

A kubaton can indeed bring someone to their knees. It's also considered an offensive weapon when used. Are those legal in Aus? I've trained with one a fair bit. If properly used it is excellent. The trick of course with anything, is using it properly.

    Self defence?

I suspect it's prohibited in Aus. When it comes to martial arts, specialized self defence teachings draw a lot from various martial arts. A sort of amalgam of techniques. I did Karate for 3 years and I wouldn't recommend it for self defence. Though it certainly teaches methods to disable people in hand to hand combat, it can take many years for you to become skilled enough to safely execute it in the "real" world. I also did Aikido and would definately promote that as a more self defence oriented style that doesn't necessarily harm your opponent. It translates over to the "real" world well, as do most grappling forms like Judo and JuJutsu. I guess I would recommend Aikido for a "pure" martial art, but overall a more specialized "real world" self defence course might be advisable. Of course, you are getting one of the best forms of self defence already. RUN.

    What's *good* about being fat?

We can make native tribesmen scream "Bring back the sun!" The next famine. We win. We're funny, and if you don't agree, we'll sit on you.

Wheetsin, it damn near worked for Monica L... ooooh I get it. The best part is with the new Dawg-Band System, is if you do get a leak, we just hold you in a bucket of Water and check for bubbles. It's cost effective! I just need people to sign this twelve thousand page waiver....

I'm going to fashion my own lap band from a bicycle tire inner tube, two O rings and a cylinder of compressed air (for fill adjustments). I'll do the op for $27.95 including parts and labor. Actually Wheetsin, I think you've probably slipped, then eroded. It's likely you are in the advanced stages of peritonitus. If I were you'd I post a new thread asking if anyone else is suffering from this, and ask whether you should seek medical advice. Actually, forget asking for medical advice. Just ignore it. It will go away sooner or later.

I am here  I'm starting to feel a bit better. I managed to avoid pain medication for the first time yesterday (other than the 600mg Ibuprofen for inflamation). My infections are starting to clear up. Another week I'll be right as rain Thanks for asking

Gone For Good Club- August 2006

Happy Monday all  I'm down to 222 so still making some progress. Paul. Dude, sorry you are feeling so crappy, I can't even imagine what it's like. You have to remember something though, from what I understand you have spent a lot of time at the gym. If that's accurate don't forget that your muscles are going to demand an increase in calories to support that new structure. Your NSV's should be the focus now that you are so clost to goal. You are doing incredibly well and look like a different person. I'm getting down to the weight level where I can't reasonably expect too much weight loss and will need to do my re-sizing at the gym. One other thing. You MUST have some spare skin (if not I'm going to find you and kick your ass). Skin isn't light and thats going to affect your "projected" goal weight (if you use BMI or anything similar). Just a tummy tuck alone could drop 5 or 10 pounds. I've been giving this some thought myself, and I have to accept that even though my shirt size is now "XL" or even "L" (down from 4XL), my skin size is definately sticking at 2XL (for now). Good luck folks, may the "fill" be with you.

Where the heck has Delarla gone?

I think it was inevitable that the question "where is she" was a catalyst for explanation of "why she isn't here". I have an answer to both questions: "Where is DeLarla?": Vegas, last I heard. "Why isn't she here?": Because she made a personal decision to not be here. There is room on the board for everyone, IMO. I hope she does come back when she is ready. She did give some excellent advice to people and was a source of enjoyment and encouragement for many. Whether I get on with her or not is irrelevant. The major factor is whether she can take part in the community while observing the rules of the board.

    Don't Complain about your Government

Probably not, considering the Shi'a don't like the Sunni, and vice versa. But we have digressed somewhat from Tired_old_man's original thread start. I've decided to agree with him. I'm not complaining about my government. It's like complaining about the rain. It doesn't stop it raining.

    Don't Complain about your Government

I believe the quote that fits that statement is: I think the most critical point about this is, Al Qaeda has never been interested in negotiation. I think rather than terrorist "fundamentalist" is a more suitable term. Let's play how the conversation would almost certainly go: US / The rest of the world: So, Al Qaeda, what would you like from us to settle this peacefully? Al Qaeda: Your suicide and enternal torment in hell would be good. US / The rest of the world: Alright. we'll get right on it. Al Qaeda: Thanks, but we'll take care of it. Yes, they "nominally" stand for the total disengagement of US (Infidel) involvement in any "Muslim" country. I'm half inclined to say "lets give it to them". No involvement whatso-ever. No oil purchases. No humanitarian aid. Nada. Close the boarders. No flights out, no flights in. You want the real irony? When Al Qaeda formed, it was to fight Soviet involvement in Afghanistan. Something which we, the infidel, helped them do. Hell, we even spent time showing them how to set up IEDs! When terrorism is founded in religion, negotiation isn't going to cut it. If terrorism was only based on territorial matters, negotiation would be entirely possible. They don't want us to "leave" the Middle East. They want us to stop living.

    Don't Complain about your Government

Speaking as an Englishman, who lived in the height of IRA activity, I've experienced living in a country where terror activities aren't "uncommon". My dear old dad ran coastal defences in WWII (good old home guard!). Is the US too big for it's boots? Possibly. But just remember, it isn't JUST the US that says North Korea, Iran etc need to get their act together. Though the UN security council does have the US as a big player, there are other members. Talking to Terrorists: I'm sorry, how do you negotiate: "Die Infidel"? Old Bin Laden doesn't want us out of the Middle-East. He wants the western world to be out of existence. That or he's a lot more stupid than I suspected. Lesson 1: If you want the USA to leave the middle east, don't commit a massive public terrorist attack. Let's face it. You can't negotiate with a man on a bus with a backpack full of explosives who isn't talking to you. He goes boom, and you die. They tried to talk to the people on the planes, they didn't want to talk. They didn't make any demands. Bin Laden didn't send a message saying "withdraw from the Middle East or we will kill you!". Al'Quaida wants one thing: Death of the enemies of Islam. The US, the UK, and any nominal "Christian" nation falls into that catagory. It makes no difference who you think you are, or what you think you believe in. You have been classified as the enemy. I personally don't think the war in Iraq qas well timed. I think it was inevitable, but not well timed. I think that we'll be "at war" with the Middle East in some for another for the rest of our lives. I don't like living in a world with terrorists. I've worked in a job where they tell you to inspect the underside of your vehicle before you leave work. It's not fun. The IRA cease fire is in my mind temporary. The situation hasn't changed. The US spends more on just about everything compared to any other country on Earth. It's only logical that military would be comparible. Good thing too, otherwise there would be one hell of a lot of people out of work and living on benefits.

    Don't Complain about your Government

I'm living in Idaho, so that is definately part of the culture here to. I do believe in asking questions mind you, but I'm also a supporter of pro-active action. When sanctions will work, I say use em. If all it's going to do is prolong the inevitable, I say skip to the final chapter. Is war good? No. Is killing good? No. Are they inevitable? In my opinion, sadly Yes. All the time there are extremists (of any religion, creed, ethnicity or political belief) there will be violence. I think people just fundamentally don't want to get along.
