Hi Amsderb, it sounds like you are doing all the right things. Any thing that will help make your surgery go smoothly will be great, plus you have a jump start on your post op diet. I had my lap band May 12th and I am doing well except for some pain around the port sites on my left side. It is so worth it. I really have no appetite yet and have just been sipping on protein drinks and then waiting for 1/2 hour to have some water. You spend most of your day sip, sip sipping. Best wishes on your upcoming surgery. Keep us posted. Love, Becky

things to do before your surgery

I think the poor lady is still in shock and unbearable pain from her loss. I hope she can find a grief web site where she can talk with others sharing the loss of a loved one or go to a grief counselor. Anyway I had a perfect surgical experience yesterday and now I am home starting my new life........................YIPPEE Becky -

WOW Janet, how scary! I am glad your DIL is doing better and you got to see your show. Yeah, I had surgery yesterday at 0745 and did fantastic. My surgeon said it was a textbook case and all my internal organs looked beautiul:closedeyes:, I am so proud. I was in my room by 0930 and had a great day. No nausea, heartburn, headache or anything, just some mild pain at the port site. Today is a little different story. I was home by 1030 this morning.I started having some moderate pain. My stomach is more swollen. I am taking LorTab elixir which makes me very sleepy but really eases the pain. When I am awake I am walking and sipping the day away. I go to my first postop class next Monday and I see Dr Ludwig on Thurs for my post op visit and clearance to go back to work next Monday. I can't believe how easy it was and thanks to this website and much support from my family and friends I am well onto a speedy recovery for my new life!!! I am so jazzed! Thanks again for your kindness and support, Love, Becky:wub: -
things to do before your surgery

Hi Garden Girl, My surgery went perfectly. It was a great experince. The only discomfort was right at the main incision where they put the port, but the pain pills knock and I am using a heating pad. Some one on this site told me about that. I just couldn't be happier and so so glad that I went into the process well informed and all my legal papers in order. I wasn't one bit afraid, I new that God was with me every step of the way. Thanks for your support. Becky:lol: t o -
Hi Journee, I was having ups and downs with my decision, but I now feel very informed and ready. This site has helped so much because real people just like you and I have gone through it and are happy they did. I found out about a book on this website called Weight Loss Surgery with the Adjustable Gastric Band by Robert Sewell, MD. It addresses that fear of failure that all of us have experinced at one point in time. We all have lost weight for short periods of time only to gain it back and then some. With our LB tool and with support, we never have to fail again. I found the book on Amazon.com. It talks about all aspect of surgery..pre, post, during and food planning. My LB is tomorrow morning at 7:00 and I can't wait! It is a little scary having surgery but it is more scary facing multiple health problems that obesity can cause. I hope you find peace with your decision or wait until you are sure. Best Wishes to you. I'll let you know how mine goes, ok? Becky:tongue_smilie:

Wow, I am truely sorry for your loss but I wish I would not have seen this today of all days. I am having surgery tomorrow. I have all my things in order and I have made a very informed decision to have this surgery. I researched for over a year. My surgeon is here in the US with outstanding credentals and a member of the Bariatric Society. He has never had one mortality and very very morbitities. I know the risks, I am an RN and have worked in surgery for over 15 years. This website has always been a source of inspiration and positive support until today. -

Hi Carol, Thanks for the encouraging words. I bought some GasX today and I'll dig out my heating pad too. I really appreciate hearing from other lap banders. I don't feel like I am going this alone. Thanks again, Becky:wub: -

Hey all you wonderful banders out there. I am being banded in two days and I am beside myself with excitment and anticipation. No one else really can understand how that feels but you. I have to be at the hospital Monday morning at 5:30. My sister is spending the night so she can drive me there and stay with me untill I come out of surgery. My husband will be there when I get to my room. (he makes me nervous before surgery so I am having him stay at home) Anyway, I have packed my hopital bag and put my Ipod in so I can listen to calming music in my room. I have no idea how I will react to the surgery but from what I have heard from all of you is that it is not too bad. Wish me luck and I will let you know how I am doing when I get home. YIKES!!!:thumbup: Becky -

Hi There MNThin, It is good to hear that you are doing so well. I will be banded in 4 days!!! I will be turning 59 next month so it is good to hear that someone my age is doing just as well as the youngsters! I have been in pretty good health myself except for a mild elevation in BP but my doctor says I will be off my meds soon after surgery...YIPPEE. I am also looking forward to less back and knee pain because I am an outdoor girl and love to hike and bike and camp and want to do these things for a very long time. Keep me posted on your journey. Best Wishes, Becky -
Good for you little shirl.......you can do it!!

Hi Indiogirl, I can't tell you how much your words of support mean to me. The fact that you are just "an everyday girl" makes you a hero to me. I will take to heart everything you have advised because it makes very good sense to me. I think what you have done is doable for me too. Exercise will be the one thing that I will have to kick into gear. I am talking about a daily routine because I am a pretty active person. I love to kayak, hike, bike, walk my dog, dance ect, but I don't do these things on a daily basis. I am going to join a gym and start with a trainer to get on a good moderate program. I hope you will be my LB Buddy:wub:. Thanks again and hooray for you! Becky -

Indiogirl.......YEAH.........YOU GO GIRL.....HIGH FIVE!!!!:frown:....any advise for us that are just starting our journey. I have read many of your blogs and they have inspired me very much. I can't wait to have my tool so that I can have some self control over my portions. That seems to be my biggest weakness and emotional eating. Any advise?? All the best to you on your fantastic achievment! Becky:thumbup: -

I am being banded on May 12th and was told at my preop class to keep the food to 2 tbs also. Sounds like you are doing very well. Keep up the good work and keep us all posted on your progress. Becky -
Why my Doc is so diff than yours??
beckn replied to salam's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Salam, that is the great thing about this website, you hear alot of valuable information to help you along the way. You need to find out what will work out the best for you. Always keep in mind that good nutrition comes first. There are a couple of good books that I found on Amazon.com on Lap Band. I think one is called the Lap Band companion. It discussed nutrition and psycological aspects of having the band. I found it very helpful too. Good Luck, Becky -
Hi Crystal, I am now on day 6 of my 10 day pre op diet. I felt the same way the first 2 days but now it got easier. I let myself have a tiny taste of hot sauce or mustard which was nice because I got tired of the sweetness of the shakes. I also found some unflavored whey protein which I put in plain chicken broth which helped me. Having something kind of salty and warm for variety. I even went out to dinner with friends last night and sipped on my water with lemon while they ate and drank wine. It was kind of hard but I just tried to focus on the conversaton and enjoy being out with friends. I had a shake right before I left the house so I wasn't really hungrey but it sure smelled good. This won't be forever. We will be able to eat what others are eating, just in way smaller portions. Won't it be great to have a tool that will give us portion control!:thumbup:My band day is May 12th and I am really excited. I had some fears and doubts until I found this site. The people here are so helpful and supportive. Hang in there....YOU CAN DO IT! Becky

Shrinko de Mayo and Banded!

Congrats! I am so happy that you have done so well. It gives me hope that mine will go as well in 6 days. You are an inspiration. Take good care and keep us all posted. Hugs, Becky:lol: -
My doctor told me to get at least 20 gms of protein per drink. I found that I can add BeneProtein (by the same company that makes BeneFiber) will add another 6gms of whey protein and it is flavor free. You can put in anything. I put it in my broth to up the protein.

Best wishes for a great outcome and safe experience! Becky

Hi May Flower....you have done fantastic! High five to you! I am on the 6th day of my protein shake diet and have droped about 8 lbs so far. I was told that I needed to shrink my liver too. It was so hard yesterday at work because there was a Cinco De Mayo potluck with all my favorite foods. The only thing that got me through it was I ate a spoon of hot sauce and that gave me a little taste and also killed the craving. Hey, whatever works. I also keep telling myself that someday I will be able to partake but just in smaller portions. That is a great feeling to know that I will be in control for once in my life. My LB is May 12th. WOO HOO. Becky

Hi Bob, thanks for all the great information and encouragement. I appreciate it very much. I'll go to GNC Friday which is payday. Have you tried other McCormick seasonings. I wonder if they have cocconut and pineapple....pina colada time. Becky
