I’m a little over a year and a half post op and I’m struggling with controlling my hunger/eating. I’m noticing that I can now consume larger portions of food and I’ve been snacking much more than usual. I’m stressing about gaining more weight. Sw was 282 my lowest was 155 which was about 1 year post op and I now weigh 170. Any advice on how to retrain my body to not consume such large portions? Should I go back on a liquid diet? I’ve also had no energy to do anything. I’m getting worried here, please help!

A year and a half post op

I also want to mention that since surgery (July 2018) I have not thrown up at all! For a few months I was scared I’d get sick so I was actually not eating and now I’m very cautious to not let myself get over the top. I’ve been fortunate enough to not hit that point of puking and nothing has disagreed with me so far which is great because I know many people that get sick often. I’ve also lost about 120 pounds since surgery which I’m very satisfied with but I would like to lose some more! -

It’s not necessarily “big” portions but much larger than what I use to eat. For example, when I started eating regular I could only eat a little less than half a slice of pizza, now I can almost pretty much eat the whole thing. I don’t eat pizza often but just trying to give an idea of what I meant by larger portions :) -

Yes I 100% agree! I actually did a lot of thinking and decided to try out intermittent fasting and honestly it’s helped me so much! I definitely eat way less food and smaller portions now and feel completely satisfied. I do allow myself a few cheats here and there but it’s been working for me the past couple weeks and I’ve actually started to lose weight again and feel more energetic! -
Addicted to canned string beans with apple cider vinegar!
likehasjustbegun posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I’m 4 and a half months post op now and have been having trouble eating. Meat grossed me out, more specifically chicken! I don’t like fish, I haven’t been able to get in almost any protein :( but for the past week I’ve literally become addicted to canned string beans with apple cider ginger and a splash of olive oil. It’s so weird! I eat about a can and a half every day throughout the day. It’s actually about the only thing I can eat with the exception of land o lakes thinly sliced yellow American cheese, so weird and so specific. Don’t like any other brand. I’m a little nervous about all the vinegar although I use braggs apple cider which is suppose to have many benefits. Anyone else have these weird cravings/addictions like this? And any experience with apple cider vinegar? Wish I could speak to a nutritionist but of course the one at my hospital is on maternity leave and they don’t have a replacement. Going for an appt with a doctor in 2 weeks but just curious about any one else’s experience...also, any protein suggestions for a really picky eater??? :/ thanks! -

The vinegar is amazing!! Eggs are also hit or mess, at first it’s all I was eating but now it bothers me.havent tried steak, worried it might get “stuck” but maybe I’ll give it a try. Just hate the thought of chewing meat to a mush :( I did have shrimp once from a restaurant that was amazing and basically melted, haven’t tried to cook it myself though but I have to try because I’m sure I’m not even taking in 10 grams of protein daily. Thanks for the tips!! -
4 months post gastric sleeve
likehasjustbegun posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are you guys eating at 4 months post op? I’ve had trouble with eating things throughout this whole process because I pretty much don’t like much of anything :( chewing meat until it’s a mush has become so repulsive to me I end up spitting it out. I have no clue what to eat and I’m barely even getting 10 grams of protein a day. I’ve been craving a ham and cheese sandwich, has anyone had any experience with sandwiches? Please help! Thanks! :) -

likehasjustbegun posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just spent my entire day in the ER. I have been feeling so miserable the past week or so. Have not been able to naturally have a bm and even with soemthing it sometimes doesn’t happen. I have absolutely no appetite at all. I’m repulsed by any food. I’m experiencing constant nausea, dehydrated, and severe constipation. I don’t know what to do! I feel so absolutely miserable. I feel worse than I did right after surgery. Horrible pain in the core of my abdomen and such nauseaCat scan, bloodwork came back fine but no one gave me an explanation as to why I feel so miserable! any experiences like this? 😢😢 -

I generally drink about 2 16 oz bottles of water a day. I know I should be drinking more and I’m going to try and push myself it’s just hard because during the day I work with very young children and it really is hard to get a sip of water in. But Im feeling so bad now that even to drink a sip of water is excruciatingly nauseating. I can’t even think of actually eating something 😢 -

All I want to eat is cheese!

These are great suggestions! I am a little over 9 weeks out and the only the thing I pretty much eat are cheddar cheese sticks and greek yogurt! I'm definitely not getting enough protein in but I just don't seem to like anything. I was told not to eat crackers or anything with flour. I asked because I feel like it'd be easier to eat tuna to get some additional protein if they were on crackers but was told no Are the Kay's crackers made with flour? -
Help!! Don’t know what to eat!
likehasjustbegun posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! So I am almost 9 weeks out from the sleeve and I am having trouble eating. I’m at the regular diet stage but everything I try to eat I either don’t like it or I am terrified of it getting “stuck” and possibly vomiting(which I’ve been able to avoid thus far). I think my fear of getting sick is getting in the way of me eating and I’m definitely not getting the amount of protein in which I should. I’m pretty much just eating yogurt and cheddar cheese sticks and some soup occasionally. I want things but I just don’t want to get sick! Can you guys please help with suggestions on things I can eat?? I spoke with my NUT but it’s very generic, tuna, fish, ground meat, etc. I don’t like tuna or fish, and ground meat has become icky to me. I hate to complain and I’m super happy with my decision I’m just so stuck with what to eat because I know I’m not having enough. Please help! Thank you! -
Help!! Don’t know what to eat!

Thanks everyone! I most likely am overthinking too much. This all sounds amazing but I'm def still nervous. My NUT told me not to eat shrimp because its too chewy/tough, which was a bummer cause I really wanted shrimp. I would like to try steak, I tried shaved beef and it broke up well and wasn't chewy at all but I was scared to swallow it because I thought it was too dry. I can eat scrambled eggs but boiled eggs in an egg salad seemed to make my stomach make a bunch of noises and I felt weird so I haven't tried again. Maybe I'm having trouble moistening whatever meats I try. I'm not sure but I hope I can get past this fear of getting sick or stuck. I'm going to try and incorporate atlas a shake too, although I kind of hated them. Such a bummer!! It's great to hear that everyone is eating well and for the most part having no trouble, hopefully this motivates me -
Has anyone tried omelets with cheese in it? 6 weeks out, fine with scrambled eggs just wondering if anyones been able to eat an omelet at this point?

Flinstones multivitamins??
likehasjustbegun posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm now almost 5 weeks out of surgery and I've been taking the liquid centrum multivitamin twice a day. I didn't get a chance to order the liquid gain and ran out so I went to the store and got the Flinstones complete chewable (not gummy) multivitamin because I've heard that some people use it. I can't call my NUT because it's a weekend and I haven't taken my multivitamin for the day because I'm nervous about taking it. Is anyone using these? Any opinions or suggestions on what to use?? -
I’m 6 weeks post op and transitioning into regular foods. I haven’t had any trouble so far but lately I’ve been craving just a plain burger with ketchup (no bun ofcourse). I just got a burger from Burger King with nothing on it and bunless but I’m a little skeptical about trying it. Has anyone had a burger at this point of their post op?

likehasjustbegun replied to likehasjustbegun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Cauliflower and Broccoli???
likehasjustbegun posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI! So my nutritionist told us in a group meeting to stay away from cauliflower and broccoli because it is gassy. I love cauliflower and being in my puree stage would love to have some. Has anyone had experiences eating cauliflower or broccoli in the pureed stage? I know I should follow what the NUT says but she also said something that was different than what my surgeon had said so I'm not sure?? -
Has anyone tried any types of bread??
likehasjustbegun posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I am a little over 4 weeks post op and just started on purees. I know I'm not ready for bread right now but I'm wondering if one day I'll be able to have any. Does anyone have suggestions on brands/ types of bread?? Also, has anyone been able to eat a sandwich post op? Again, I know it's too early for that just wondering if its a possibility to still be able to eat a sandwich in general...Thanks!!! -

So for a couple weeks I’ve been licking chips, which I know sounds absolutely crazy but just getting the flavor gives me the best satisfaction, I know I have to watch sodium when I do this. But that’s the only cheating I’ve been able to do this far! How is everyone able to cheat so easily on the post op??!! I am so scared to even have my puréed :( so scared that I’m going to choke or it’s going to get stuck and I’m gonna end up vomiting. Ugh! -

My plan actually doesn’t say anything about bread. I haven’t spoke to my NUT about it yet because I figured I’m not ready for it anyway but i have a follow up appt in 2 weeks so I’ll mention it. The lettuce as bread is a great idea!
