Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
Leia replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 4 weeks post op and I hadn't thrown up since being in the hospital until yesterday. I think I just didn't go slow enough and maybe the breakfast sausages were too dry. I moved my self backwards a little bit on my food plan and am just doing 'soft and moist' foods today. -
Feeling a little discouraged. I hoped that I'd lose fast for the first hand full of weeks, but its only the second one and things are way slowed down.

Chill. You have barely begun the journey, just concentrate on following the program, healing, resting, and hydrating. Develop a hobby for Pete's sake to take your mind off yourself. This is a long road, the rest of your life. You will be fine. Trust the process.

Thanks everyone. I think half of it is the mood swings I'm going through.

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion

I drink half with my tea in the morning, and finish the rest in the evening. . ..soo... sort of? -
What kind of post-op tea did you drink?
Leia replied to 3nuthut's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm about a week and a half post op and I've started mixing half a Premier Protein drink (the strawberry and cream, peaches and cream, or bananas and cream) with Celestial Seasonings Country Peach Passion Herbal Tea. The protein drinks bother my stomach a little, but mixing it with the tea seems to help. The tea is chamomile with hints of peach. I wish I'd read this thread sooner, as I did find that ginger and mint teas no longer agree with my stomach like they used to. The most soothing thing to my stomach so far has been Broths, mostly bone broths that I add a little seasoning too. I wish tea's would go down as easily! Hopefully soon. -

@apeek Thank you! I means a lot to know that you've come out of the other side of this 'funk' and are feeling hopeful and good! It REALLY helps to know there's light at the end of the tunnel! -
Logging your daily intake of food and etc.?
Leia replied to The Preacher's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I use Baritastic too. I just downloaded it a few days ago after starting the full liquid diet. Its been VERY helpful. I love the pie chart it gives you of your carbs/fat/protein intake. And like FitnesssPal you can just scan the barcode on packaging to log it if you want. -

You're definitely not the only one. I've been kind of weepy nearly every night and having intense bouts of being pretty irritable on top of that. I think all the changes our bodies are going through have to be effecting us hormonally. I hope it balances out soon though. I want to feel like celebrating..not moping. -

Ernie, thank you for sharing! I've been kind of depressed, frustrated and in generally moody. They kind of told me to expect it, but I guess there's no preparing for having completely irrational miserable feelings. I'm only weighing weekly, but I've lost 10 pounds since surgery, and I should feel excited and hopeful. ...but I definately feel like we're in similar boats. It helps to know I'm not completely weird for feeling kind of lost and sad, despite success. I hope it helps you to know your not alone in feeling this way. And incase your docs didn't mention this as a common thing, know that mine did. .. so I guess we're normal? -
I was nervous as heck, on the verge of panic crying, so I can definitely relate to what you are going through! They did give me some IV meds before they took me back, it took the meds probably less than a minute to kick in and suddenly everything was fine. It all felt a little surreal, and I was no longer ready to panic cry, I think I even felt a little silly. The waiting to go to the surgery room after getting into my gown was definitely the worst part. Just be sure to tell them how freaked out you are and ask for something to calm you down. They wont give it till after you've signed the consents and gone over everything with the doc's, but once its on board you'll be fine.

Any tips for helping Chronic (stomach) Inflammation?
Leia posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey all! I'm 8 days post surgery now, and just looked at some test results for the part of my stomach sent to the lab. Looks like I have chronic inflammation. I'm wondering if that accounts for how much I need to burp after I drink anything. Of course I'll ask my surgeon at my follow up about it too, but in the mean time. . . Has anyone found any sorts of drinks particularly soothing? So far plain, unsweetened yogurt seems to be the least irritating thing. Thank you!- 3 replies

So glad its not just me! Not that I'm happy your having to deal with it too lol I am so ready to be done with the 'bubbles' -
I could EASILLY see my self doing this! If I could just avoid the getting discouraged part... I was the queen of self sabotage in the past if I started feeling like a failure. Still. . ..It is REALLY hard ignoring the scale today! Yesterday was my weigh day and . . . I'm already wanting to check if my choices yesterday effected the number in a good or bad way. Thank you for sharing your experiences! Sounds like we kinda go through some really similar thought patterns regarding weigh ins! I tend to get soo freaked out when I have to weigh at a weird time of day at the docs office and stuff. . I guess its all pretty common though.

Seconding this! I was in the hospital for two days after my sleeve because of nausea. I still felt a little pukey for maybe one more day, but I'm a week out now and its pretty much gone. Definitely ask them about it. I'm still a gas machine, but no wanting to upchuck, thankfully. -
Me too! Congrats for completing the first week! Sounds like your kids are awesome. Hiding it for a while sounds like a great idea. .... I think I'm going to follow your lead. Or at least hide it from my self Wednesday through monday every week.

A friend of mine doing her own weight loss thing is buying her self a sticker to put on her water bottle for every 5 pounds. I've got to be thrifty, so right now I'm leaning towards something like that. I love the skin care and salon idea's too!
-
Maybe you could put a flower pot in front of it. . .Only kind of kidding. I think a lot of the other peeps on here have the right idea though, so long as you know there will be fluctuations and don't beat your self up about it, it can be okay? I have a lot of work to do around that my self.
-
I Have SOOO much respect for those of you that can weigh daily and not let the stalls and fluctuations get you down! I think I could some weeks, but my head space changes so much! You all are an inspiration though, It gives me so much hope to see how well everyone is doing, no matter their schedule or lack there of with the scale! @GreenTealael Removing it! Genius. lol, not even kidding. I cant get rid of the one in my house completely...but I might try hiding it between weigh ins. Dont need it sitting there staring at me when ever I have to visit the bathroom.. .
-
Ack! Yeah that would be hard!
-
@GreenTealael I'm pretty tempted by that honestly, it must take a lot of self control!
-
@Letsgetgoing2018 That sounds so much like me! I'd get tempted on old regular diets and weigh at weird times...and get pretty discouraged.
-
@it'sonlythefirststep @FancyChristine15 Thank you for sharing!! I'm leaning toward weekly my self, sounds like it might be the sweet spot. And you both seem like you're doing great that way! I definitely don't want to get obsessed, and I know I'm pretty easily discouraged sooo...seeing every little up, stall or fluctuation would probably make me crazy. @Matt Z Props though! WOW is that dedicated! I think the making sure as many things are the same as can be for every weigh in is a really, really good idea. Looks like its really working for you too! Thanks for sharing!

I think I would like to get my one tat fixed up and embellished on as a sort of mile marker reward when I'm getting close to goal...or need some encouragement. I haven't thought of a new one to celebrate the change, but it sounds like a great idea! I love the phoenix, perfect symbolism!
