39 178 pounds. Terrible time gaining weight... Any advise.
Richard Hayes replied to Zaxarooey's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I kinda agree with this one get with a gastric dr and nutritionists, honestly what your asking most on here are not in that ballpark your in. Once my weight was off was not trying to get it back as of muscle light working out has done fine for me not trying to get ripped or anything, I think having a DS kinda kills that plan or makes it almost impossible. -

Well I can tell you I’m 57 it’s been 5 years since my surgery and I can say I have hit my spot where my weight stays where it is, any walking or working out I do just kinda tones my body I have not seen any major muscle gain or anything like that since I have plateaued with my weight. I take it as it is what it is and just maintain. -

Honestly if your body is where it’s at with the 178 your really not going to loose anymore weight nor gain really. Not sure if your team explained this to you but a DS is designed to get max weight loss and at a certain point you level out. I went from 325 to 191 with my surgery and it will fluctuate from 191 to 196 depending how I’m eating and what not but I’m 5 years out I believe and I have not gained anything past 196. Have I been scared that I’m going to drop more yes but has it went past 191 not once. Tbh once the body has reached it loss amount it is what it is that is how I have taken it. -
I had my switch done on 7Aug18 and I must admit I feel 100% better at this point other than extreme fatigue here and there I’m 5 weeks out and 40 lbs down I know I need to increase my proteins intake I really don’t eat much at all once a day maybe other than that pristine shakes and crystal light and water I have tried salmon and that was fine and I have tried a few other things cooked for me but that desire to eat is not there. I do struggle with moderate diarrhea with burning but not sure if that is something all goes through when I called the med assistant said it’s normal but never said for how long and how long will my gas be wet gas. But over all I am good I go back in about a month in a half to get hernia repaired then I’ll be done with all surgery

@amo4714412 actually I don’t have any food cravings physically mentally I do still want to taste things that have been cooked to see if I will still like the taste, but the worst thing I have experienced personally was the abdomen pain in the beginning it made it hard to sleep until I decided to just roll onto my side and sleep and also use my cpap helped -
Well I am 6 days out and starting to feel good pain is going away and I can even move around a little faster, and I am even use to the liquid diet too, so I have to say I am glad I made this decision and am very happy I was able to stop my diabetic meds.

@Sosewsue61 thanks I’m glad I made the decision I’m already moving around at home pretty good so I may start slowing down on the Tylenol 4, saw my primary dr this morning and they were happy already down 12 lbs -
I had to be at hospital 8:30 on the 7th and didn’t even make surgery until 123:30

Well I’ve still been taking my Tylenol 4 just about every 5-6 hrs so honestly when I lay down I don’t feel too much because of that but I’ll bet if I don’t take it I will I usually sleep on my side so I’m sure is just still some gas but still check in with your Bariatric team to make sure -

when I was trying to decide what surgery to do Dr Duperier pretty much advised me that this was the better option for getting off all my meds or at lest some of them, by the time I was discharged. I also had the best team at the hospital after the surgery, once I was out of recovery I was up walking 15 minutes later once I got to my private room. I figured it would be best to get moving so I can work the pain out.
