    Out Of Pocket Max

Thank you! I know it was a strange question, but I just needed some reassurance.

    Ya know what's awesome????

My NP told me to put the scale away. ;______; She felt (through my words and overall tone of the discussion) that I was becoming obsessive about the number and was regulating the happiness of my day through what the number was. I can understand where her concern was, so I'm going to go to once a week weigh-ins

    Hair loss

I have been having hair issues ever since I lost a ton of weight from low-carb and keto. I also found out that I am severely Vitamin D deficient and may have a thyroid issue that needs to be looked back at once I'm at a stable weight. So, I went to the salon today and cut off A LOT. It will likely grow back a certain point by the time its expected to fall out, but I wanted practice on how to deal with shorter hair prior, so it is what it is.
  4. Definitely! I'm glad I could help.
  5. I was approved for soft, mushy food too! My NP told me that I can eat up until 1/2 cup (or 4oz) of "food." She told me to give myself 30 minutes to eat and if I couldn't eat it all within that time limit or felt fullness prior to the 30 minute mark, just stop.

    Grumpy Bat is Grumpy

My sense of smell is heightened today and everything smells like crud. I had to go through three cups because they didn't "smell" right. I'm grumpy and nauseated. This is one of the more worse days that I've had. /end rant

    Tired of Liquid

I had my husband get me some Chik Fil A noodle soup. It's not on plan for me, but I threw it into a blender and added some unflavored protein powder. Had 4oz of it and it was DELICIOUS. Are you able to have pudding? I'm on liquids until 12/27, so I feel your pain.
  8. This sounds A M A Z I N G. I've been craving some egg nog too! I am going to be on liquids during Christmas. I explained to my family that I did not feel comfortable this year making dinner for everyone, so I was not going to make any food. My mom decided that she wasn't going to make anything either (or can't be bothered, who knows) so we'll eat before we go to my parents and I'll bring a protein shake/water with me.

    Only few days in.....

My head hunger level has been annoyingly high a few days post-surgery. If I could eat everything, I would. I'm also on a full liquid diet for two weeks post-op, so the need to have real food means I am getting a little desperate at this point. Any chance that you've been playing around with different temperatures of your liquids? A good friend of mine @Myhorseisfattoo told me that warm liquids tend to "fill" her up in a comforting way, versus cold liquids.

Has anything changed in your diet recently? Are you having regular bowel movements?

    December 2018 Sleevers!

I am able to get liquids down pretty easily. I thought, "too easy." As long as I am not chugging back a bottle of water, I do not have an issue with liquids. The issue that I am having 11 days post-op is nausea and food aversion. I can drink a protein shake, but it makes me a little ill to my stomach. I start to feel more nauseous as the day goes on. I am not sure how to pinpoint the exact issue: I do not think it's dehydration, I feel icky long after I take the vitamins (Flinstones with Iron could be the culprit), and I am able to get the protein shake down. . . I feel it's almost a mental game. Now, I do take a medication called Trintellix that is pretty well known to cause stomach upset. I am on the dosage prior to surgery, so that may be causing an issue in my smaller stomach. I have generic Zofran, which keeps me just feeling "icky" about the food I'm eating right now. It also could be that my body is just done with all liquids, all the time - I don't get progressed until the 27th of this month!

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Yeah! I did Keto for awhile prior to getting surgery and would end up with a metallic taste. Of course, if you have any other symptoms alongside it - definitely go see a doctor
  13. Just within a few hours of today alone (family came over for my birthday/early Christmas), I have been reflecting on the idea of food being subjected into holiday traditions. I did not have a birthday cake but I could not help but feel a longing in my chest for a tradition that I've upheld for the length of my life (and I don't even really like cake.) Then not being able to participate in a run to Krispy Kreme (my MIL is from a bit further south than my husband and I - they don't have one) has left me feeling a little alienated and alone at home. I usually go out to a nice restaurant for my birthday. . . not going to do that either. I am trying to make these holidays about the people I spend time with (my family and friends) but . . . and maybe I'm going out on a tangent here, I've started to realize that the majority of company I keep pretty f**king sucks. Food seemed to be a filler in the gaps where the relationships failed (especially in a Holiday setting.) This doesn't count for EVERYONE, but it has been something on my mind (especially the first two weeks where I'm on just liquids.) Sorry for my ramble, it's been kind of a cruddy birthday and I want to cry about it. LOL

A metallic taste in the mouth could also be a sign that your body is in ketosis. Which isn't all beyond the realm of possibility, seeing as your sugars are drastically reduced and a lot of your culinary options starting out are sugar-free. As a birthday treat, I have some decaf coffee from Starbucks. I've added some Atkins shake plus some Genepro (I know some people don't like Genepro, but I spent money on it and I WILL finish the bag.) It's SO yummy. I have been struggling with nausea for the past few days, unfortunately.

    Gastric sleeve and back pain

I have some weird back pain issues. I figured it is either residual gas, or the fact I have not been sleeping in my normal sleep patterns.

    Grumpy Bat is Grumpy

I think my period may be starting . . . I have PCOS, so it's all over the place, but I do get super-heightened smells around this time.

It's a rainy day here in Virginia. . . oh my goodness I'd die for some Panera soup.

    weight loss stopped

From what I've read, a small amount of regain after a few years is pretty normal. If you feel that the amount gained is outside of "normal" (I would say 5-10 lbs), then the first thing you need to do is write down everything you eat in a day. If you're not someone who wants to carry around a notebook all day, go ahead and find a note app on your phone and try tracking that way. Another question I would ask is: are you grazing all day, or are you having separate meals with one or two snacks during the day?

    Dumping....a right of VSG passage?

Ooooof! Glad you had the comforts of home to deal with the aftermath!
  21. Officially one week post-op! Kind of grumpy today because I want to do all the things and can't - too tired.

    December 2018 Sleevers!

Hey Wombat, While it was crazy trying to get everything done prior to surgery, the relief that I had post-op was definitely all worth it. Instead of having to focus on school, I could focus on myself and just getting better. I also don't feel cognitively 100% and that simply could be because I'm not getting a huge amount of calories right now. It's officially one week post-op and things are okay. I wouldn't call myself hungry at all, but the head hunger is still pretty strong. I am a lot more tired right now (because I feel better and want to do MORE things.) I am a stomach sleeper and can sleep on my stomach . . . okay. . . for part of the night (like I wake up on my stomach and it's not killing me.) I'm pretty much not taking any pain medicine except at night to calm the painful incision so I can rest comfortably. Is there something specific I could answer for you? Would I do this again? 110%!

    I NEED SAVORY!!!

I wish I was on pureed so soon. I'd kill for some hummus right now!
  24. So I barely slept and woke up my husband at around 3:45AM. I showered and used Dial soap that they had advised me to take (they had these clothes, but they gave me an allergic reaction so I was told to shower with gold Dial soap.) I made sure we had everything, which consisted of: Nintendo Switch (the handheld part and a charger - for my husband while we waited.) Laptop (for my husband) Kindle (for me) Deodorant Pajamas for both my husband and I Change of clothes the next day for my husband and I Gas-X Chewables Hair ties and slip-resistant sock slippers (they were bears - I thought they were super cute.) We got to the hospital and registered in. I got a little band around my wrist. They finally called us back after about 15 minutes. We got to a certain spot down the hallway and the Nurse turned around and told us that there is where the waiting parties advance ahead and the rest of us go into Pre-Op. I hugged my husband, gave him my purse and jacket, cried a little, and we parted ways. The first thing they had me do was produce an urine sample. Then I was lead back into a room that had multiple beds with curtains separating each "area." I got to my space in the far back corner and was told to strip down completely, put my clothes into a bag, put on the purple gown, and lay in the bed. For the hour and half prior to my surgery, Nurses would come in and ask my health history, put in IVs, and essentially prep me for the surgery. I also got visitations from the anesthesiologist, the nurse anesthesiologist, and the surgeon himself. The amount of understanding and patience from these people (my nurse was nice too just as a reminder) was amazing. I know they get hundreds of people like me; scared and uncertain, but they made the time and effort to make sure I knew that I was in good hands. Finally, it was time to wheel me away. I will say that this is where it gets a little hazy (especially towards the end.) One thing that struck me really interestingly about the whole experience being wheeled back to the OR is that it definitely does not look like what they show on TV. It was cold and very grey. But not. . . completely devoid of emotion. The atmosphere back there was one of focus (I dunno, I'm being weird.) I was wheeled into the room and everyone said hello to me. They asked me if I was comfortable and I said I was cold. . . they threw a warm blanket on me after I transferred to the operating table. They asked me if the relaxation medicine was working and I laughed and said not really, but it's okay, I feel better anyway. They positioned me a bit more and then the lady (who I had met earlier) said, "Okay, it's time. We're putting the medicine into your IV now." And I was out. Then I woke up. This is probably the worst part of the entire day. I heard my name and that I was in the recovery room, but my first thoughts waking up are, "Okay, I guess I'm alive" and, "What the f**** is wrong with my back?" The worst pain of the day, honestly the worst pain of the surgery, was my back from laying on it for about four hours. You see, general anesthesia does a number on me and it had been a time to rouse me (I wasn't in any danger, I just was really groggy from the medicine.) My throat was also dry and raw from the breathing tube and I could barely talk. After about 30 minutes, they found a room for me and I was wheeled up to it so I could meet up with my husband. I spent most of the day sleeping and then being woken up to get my vitals done. I was really scared, but it ended up being a very positive experience (even with the pain in my back.) It'll be okay. ❤️
