Burning pain and Constipation
Rachel2018 replied to Rachel2018's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My doc says at leasat 64 oz but I have been a little shy of that each day so that is definitely something I need to kick up some. When I talked with the nurse today, she said I definitely pulled a muscle straining....maybe even broke a stitch or two but that either way, it would heal—just will take time. They have me taking a dose of miralax each night to help my body get used to needing to “add” more water to my intestines again. When you are on liquids, your body gets used to not having to “add” more water, so I need to re-teach my body also. So glad it’s nothing serious, but you are right—WATER, WATER, WATER! -

Sorry if this is TMI...but I am 4 weeks out and been tolerating everything great—no issues. today, I had to strain very hard to have a bowel movement. Now, not only do I feel like I still need to go, but I have developed a burning pain that if I move just right is when I feel it—it’s not continual. But it feels like maybe I strained a muscle in my belly. It’s between the belly button and the scar where they removed the stomach out of. Has anyone experienced this? Should I be worried? Obviously I need to drink more water......but I’m worried about the pain.

Unflavored protein powder
Rachel2018 replied to AngelaM258's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
My doctor sells something called “Uninjury” I believe and it is the only one I can tolerate for a protein powder. He also has liquid flavor packets for water that contain 14 grams of protein and those I can tolerate...for the most part tastes like Koolaid. -
Sorry for all the posts/questions, but this is all so new to me and I don’t really have anyone to ask questions of. Today I’m 6 days post-op and I feel that between trying to get my protein and water, I am constantly putting something in my mouth and I’m feeling so fulll all the time. I still haven’t gotten all that I”m supposed to each day yet even doing that. I am just at a loss—is this normal in the beginning? What have others experienced?

I keep hearing people talking about hair loss after a few months of sleeve surgery. What are your experiences with hair loss.....what are things I can do to try and keep that from happening?

August 2018 sleeve surgery!!
Rachel2018 replied to susunorm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Pudding counts towards liquid right? I haven’t tried that but I can add unflavored protein and kill two birds with one stone. I want to eat soup....but no protein in it and adding the powder does not do well. But...I hear liquid first above protein so maybe I shoudl try. Has your doctor said what signs to watch for in a leak? -
Thanks Cat...I can’t WAIT for cottage cheese! Lol. Has your doctor mentioned what to watch for in developing a leak? What signs you may have? And we are both 5 feet tall and losing the same type of weight! When was your surgery?

August 2018 sleeve surgery!!
Rachel2018 replied to susunorm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on Monday, August 6. Went home the next day. Feeling good...get tired easy and can’t get in all my protein and water but I’m told water is more important at this point. Staying active and off pain meds by Wednesday. I just wish I knew when I’m “full” as I am afraid of leaks becuase apparently you don’t know when you have one which seems odd. I don’t want to eat too much (we’ll drink) and cause more problems so if anyone has some advice there, it would be appreciated. I’m probably worrying about nothing. My cuts all are feeling fine...even woke up on my stomach last night so I know those are heeling well. -
This m sound odd....but I am only a few dayas out from surgery and havne’t felt whatever it is to feel like I ate (well drank at this point) too much. How will I know? I just don’t want to cause leaks becuase I ate too much and didn’t see the signs.

I was just curious what are the symptoms of sleeve leaks? My doctor doens’t do the swallow test anymore....found it to be unnecessary. He’s good at what he does, but I want to know what to possibly look for in case I do develop one. I want to catch it early instead of having something that keeps me in the hospital for weeks at a time. Thank you in advance.

1 Week Post Op- The fluids struggle is real!!!
Rachel2018 replied to skylw6's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Maybe that’s my problem.....trying to get ALL water and protein in each day and when I don’t, I feel like I’m failing. Even all the water is hard. I don’t think I have drank too much at one time....not sure what that feels like. I do notice sometimes it tends to go down a big harder so. Maybe that’s it? Many who have had my doctor have said he’s very strict up front about what to do and not do—-but falling short really is ok. If he sets high standards, it helps people to be mroe successful and his stats are better than the natural average. But it sure puts a lot of added pressure on me. I am also one that does not fail...so a lot of the expectation I place on myself too. I need to relax! Lol
