    50 and Up Sleevers

Fabolous 50! Congratulations on your surgery date. I was 45 when I was sleeved. I turned 50 in November. Celebrate that the weight is coming off fast or slow. Think of where your weight will be on your 51st birthday.

PRE OP Weight loss Mind Games

It's a big decision to have surgery. I think most of us second guessed and questioned our decision. If I could do it on my own and keep it off I would have. I have lost and regained many times. I needed something long term.
  6. Congratulations! You should make this photo your christmas card. *grin*

    Anyone NOT taking their vitamins?

I am not a soft touch. I am direct. Feel free to ignore my post. You said "I hate them. I justify it. wondering how bad my checkups will be ?" Your choice to take them or not. A cancer patient is doing chemotherapy treatments. I person who had a leg amputated is learning to walk with a prosthetic leg. They would gladly trade places with us for our bariatric struggles.

    Dec 2013 VSG'ers: 5 year update?

Congrats on five years out. You will work this back down. Don't let 20 pounds turn into 30, 40 or 50. Healthier you in 2019. I was sleeved in 2014. I had a sixteen pound gain my third year and worked it back down.

I need to get back on track

You can get into weight loss mode again. I needed to change my behavior of eating to calm anxiety/stress/emotions. If you need help with anxiety/panic attacks, You can get ahold of your family physician or a therapist. Getting back on track and maintaining your weight is work. I'm not always motivated. Its easy to gain a pound a month. It turns into 12 pounds in a year...24 the next year. and so on. I had a 16 pound gain in my third year and worked it back down. Maintaining for me is weighing every day. I gave myself a ten pound bounce range. When the scale goes up I get back into weight loss mode. Losing the 16 pounds: Had my hubby hide temptations in the house. Went grocery shopping. Logged my food. I found that I had to dial in calories and macros to see where my body starts losing weight again. Get activity in.Can you work in 30 min at home? If you can't weight loss will be mainly from your diet. This may not be helpful to hear - Im not sure what will get you back your old discipline/motivation. I put motivational weight loss mems on my fridge. I look here for newer people in weight loss mode that are excited. I do weight loss challenges. I have a goal dress I want to fit into for new years. I hope you find what works. You are one busy lady.

Fat shaming ?? Post op over 4 yrs

This has been an interesting thread. Thanks for all of your perspectives. I guess I'm older and in a different place in life. Attitude, behavior and opinions are choices. I'd rather build people up.
  11. Check in Start of challenge 133 This morning 135 Maintaining my weight Workouts and food have been slack. My friends father passed away. Spent three days with her while she was in town. Back to things this week. two pounds up Into the holidays. I'm making cookies with my grandson. I can't keep them in the house. I know my weaknesses. Weekends seem to be my biggest challenge. Parties and potlucks. My goal is to rock my New Years dress and go into 2019 without major holiday weight gain.

    workout programme

Are you released to lift without restrictions? I'm finding many trainers don't have knowledge of bariatrics. But, they do have the knowledge of starting a weight lifting program. Trainers work with many people that had other types of surgery/medical issues. I think @BigViffer can give you some ideas.

    Huge influx of random flirting

It's a bit of a change going from invisible to noticed. Most people find healthy as attractive. Take the flirting as a compliment. It takes time to settle into your new appearance. Funny that I was also a bit clueless about flirting and a few terms men use. Example. I was the only person on the back mats at my gym. I was stretching and foam rolling. Three guys pop around the corner. The term "making it rain" was used. The guys on the forum were kind enough to explain it to me. *laughing* How do you fix this? Put things in perspective. You are healthy and that attracts attention. Decide where your line is with flirting, compliments, creepy behavior and full frontal pics.

    Need some exercise advise

You said "i thought i had it figured out what i was gonna do but the closer it gets the more uneasy i feel about it" Walking 5 miles 10,000 steps and released to lift is great. You already know where your starting fitness level is. All that's left is developing your plan and put it into action. Mix your cardio with a lifting plan. People will post what their workouts look like. You can also research and develop your own. here are a few more links that are plan specific. https://www.bodybuilding.com/workout-plans https://www.bodybuilding.com/category/training https://www.bodybuilding.com/category/health-and-lifestyle https://www.bodybuilding.com/category/workouts

Fat shaming ?? Post op over 4 yrs

Feel free to ignore what I have to say about your post. I had surgery in the same year as you. I get that you are excited about how life changing WLS is. Great to praise surgery and your outcome. I don't feel the need to educate or preach it to others. I am not the spokesperson for weight loss or surgery. If they ask, I will give information. You asked "do you find that you seem to judge overweight people now ?? or is it just me ?? Is it only you judging people? Probably not, Many judgmental negative people in life. Biting your tongue and shaking your head judging people?...Seriously ??? I have to ask.... Did you enjoyed being judged or fat shamed when you were obese? Were you approached that you needed to lose weight pre surgery? How did they come off to you? Did you jump right on it and lose all your weight? Did you ignore their advice? Did you find it intrusive or offensive? You said "Im curious if anyone will really admit,,, to shaking your head to a overweight individual." Really admit ??? No not all of us think this way about other obese people. I look at someone struggling with obesity with compassion. Why would I judge someone with a disease? I have not forgotten where I came from. I walked in the shoes of an obese person. Treatment options are their personal choice.

    Need some exercise advise

Starting out, You will find where your fitness level/ability is. No one expects you to run a marathon or lift seriously heavy. You will get stronger and have the ability to do more over time. Start slow while you are healing. How long and how far can you walk starting out? Are you released to weight lift? Cardio - (walking, bike , treadmill, swimming, zumba, elliptical, etc) - increase the intensity, speed or resistance as you get stronger. Lifting - find your strength ability starting point. How much can you lift? Find a plan. Research online for a home gym workouts, exercise videos, Join a gym or hire a trainer. Ignore that this video below says exercise to begin 3 to 6 months out. Follow your Doctor's instructions/plan https://www.obesityaction.org/community/article-library/weight-loss-surgery-and-fitness-the-dos-and-donts-for-a-successful-exercise-program/ https://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/
  21. @MrsKarenC2008 I'm glad you came back to the site. I wish you the best and I hope you pop in more. Just found this this article. Hypoglycemia and reactive hypoglycemia. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/diabetes/expert-answers/reactive-hypoglycemia/faq-20057778 I'm not sure what category I fit in *laughing at myself* My low blood sugars don't make sense to me or my Dr. Fasting or food, My low blood sugars have no pattern. At 140 pounds and year out from surgery, my pancreas started functioning but not correctly. Dr said its a RH is complication from surgery but it's also a blessing to know my pancreas is working.

CPAP users, lend me your ear!

@kfaery215 When your weight is lower, You will be scheduled for a sleep study. Your Dr's will determine if you need your CPAP prescription. I'm thankful I no longer have sleep apnea. I sleep well without it.

    ONEderland!

    Congratulations on onderland.
  24. Success can be many things. We all have our own goals and walk with surgery. My advice is to follow your plan. Repeat until this lifestyle becomes habit and feels normal. Be your own amazing. The first few months is your best surgery restriction and weight loss. Take advantage of it. As you progress out you will notice that your restriction is less and weight loss slows down. Keep your food within your calories and macros even when your surgery restriction becomes less. Comparing weight loss stats will make you crazy. Habits and behavior changes will make a difference in your weightloss outcome and long term success. My surgery was June of 2014 - HW 254 - SW 234 - GW 140 in six months. I maintain in the 130's I had a sixteen pound gain in my third year. I worked it back to my maintenance weight. What did you do for food? Nothing magic. I followed my plan. logged my food, stayed hydrated, and exercised to goal. What's a sample of your diet like today? Maintaining weight looks different for each of us. What works for me and my choices may not work for anyone else. Did you do low-carb or follow everything in moderation? You will make choices that will affect your long term weight loss success. I am carb sensitive pre surgery and post surgery. Low carb works well with my body physiology. I eat things in moderation now that I'm in maintenance mode. Everything moderation in weight loss mode depends on the person. For me, It's a slippery slope. Sugars carbs can slow/stop my weight loss. What were your portions like ~3 months out, 6 months out, 1 year..etc? Portions and calorie intake will increase with time. Keep things within your calories and macros to stay in weight loss mode. My maintenance does not look like others. I would hate for anyone in weight loss mode read my food log and think they are going to lose weight. My diet changes during racing season. (carb loading) When I choose to indulge and gain, I go back into weight loss mode to keep my weight in range. What about exercise, when did you start it (if you did), and what kind did you do? Started the day after surgery walking. Helps with the healing process. Your surgeon's office will give you a release to exercise more. Give them a call. I walked, did elliptical a bit of lifting for the majority of my weight loss. My choice to become athletic after weight loss is not for everyone. I lift and distance run. I'm a bad @ss grandma. *laughing*
  25. I'm worried for you. Your lows are at a point you are passing out. No, your not being silly or ridiculous. You have a complication from surgery. You overcame and managed your obesity. Now you have the challenge of managing/ treating Hypoglycemia.
