    Heartburn post sleeve

Are there certain foods that are making this happen? Do you journal so you can try and correlate the type of food with the issues? I am 4 months post op and I finished my Pantoprazole a month ago and haven't had any issues, but then again, I'm eating so much better now than I had presurgery. Just curious if you have notices if there's specific things that set you off.
  2. I had to do once a month and the dietician schedule all 6 of them up front so they could control the frequency.

    Too Much Protein?

Here's a screenshot from someone who doesn't check their weight very often, to put it in perspective. you can't sweat the daily ups and downs or you'll go nuts.

    Too Much Protein?

By no means is this criticism, but do you eat any fruit or veggies? I'm curious how others in the post surgery phase get by day to day with meals. This screenshot is devoid of them and I wondered if it was normal for you.
  6. The best thing about the Gastric sleeve is that it's a slow and steady drop. It's probably better for your loose skin situation to lose it more slowly anyways. This is a marathon, not a race, pace yourself and be patient. You'll get there.
  7. Use almond milk instead of regular milk, it will save you like 65 to 70 calories off of that 100. Plus you get a nice "nutty" flavor in the aftertaste that is actually quite good.
  8. I picked a goal based on my frame size. I think the BMI chart has never been my friend, I'm very broad-shouldered. If I went by the BMI chart, you'd see my ribs and not in a good way. Realistically, if I get even close to 200, i will be pretty psyched about it. I'm down to about 250 now and I look and feel better than I have in 20 years and the comments from others are great just getting this far.

    Venting about my husband

Hello, just my two cents (for what it's worth) on this since I have been through some tough times getting my SO on board with everything. He's probably feeling inferior and the inappropriate advances are possibly his way of asserting dominance (or control) while feeling inferior of the "new you". Any time you ask him to change the behavior that you have only now changed since you had the surgery is another shot at his pride. You're basically telling him that you're better than him without actually doing it. Or at least that is how he may be taking it. The non-teeth-brushing and other hygiene issues could also be related to a way of protesting all the changes, even if only subconsciously done. You need to level with him and like the others said to seek some counseling or it's only going to get worse. Good Luck, I hope you can work this out.

    New here

Welcome to you @Sassylady1. My advice would be to be patient with this long process. In the end if you stick to the "rules" laid out to you by your program staff, you will be successful. If you stray, don't quit, pick yourself off and keep at it, but also, don't give yourself a reason to be tempted, either. Others in your life may not understand what you're going through and don't expect them to. If you can get "bad things" that lead to temptation out of your house, do it, but if you're like me and have kids, getting through without snacking dangers in your home can be near impossible. This process will require a lot of discipline, but you can do it. If you're not focused on the end goal, you will not succeed, but this is your best chance to get fit quick so don't waste it. Good luck to you.

The deal on coffee post op

My surgeon said that decaf is fine but that I should cut out caffeine altogether forever. Among the many factors that contributed to my and many others obesity was issues related to not getting enough sleep. Sleep is life, sleep is healing and sleep keeps your metabolism in check. Caffeine ruins your body's natural internal clock for getting enough sleep which throws everything else out of whack. Yes caffeine is bad for healing stomachs as well, but its much worse for you overall. It is a drug, after all, not to get preachy, but I got rid of caffeine 2 months prior to surgery and I don't miss it anymore. In fact, I look forward to having decaf coffee in the morning now, it took a little while, but it's like I'm not missing anything now that I'm 4 months post op.
  12. I have a 10 and 13 year old. They know I couldn't do a lot of the things they wanted me to do with them in regards to physical activity. Since the surgery and now that I'm down about 100lbs, I'm doing so much more. I kept repeating the same thing before the procedure that I'm doing this so I can be around for them and so I can do things with them. Now the proof is in the pudding as they say and I'm owning up to it and they were so happy the first time I got on an amusement park ride with them because I could instead of watching from the sidelines as I did the first 10 and 13 years of their lives. Good luck!

What she said 👆 Compared to the long haul before this and the long haul after WLS, the two week diet is easy peasy. Get excited for it, embrace it, do whatever you have to do to make it happen. You got it.
  14. Feel like it's time for a status update, I haven't been on here regularly in a while and I need to keep my mindset focused on my goals.

I haven't weighed myself in ~ 3 weeks.  I think I'm becoming the opposite of "obsessive" about tracking my progress and it could cause me some issues.  The good thing is that there have still been quite a number of NSV's happening that is telling me that I'm still progressing without knowing what the scale says.

First one is that a belt I bought about 5 weeks ago because all my other belts were too big is also on the last hole so I'll have to buy yet another belt again.  second, I bought new jeans about a month ago and I have a lot more slack in the waist than I did when I purchased them.  I also boarded a plane and had about 8 inches of slack in the belt.  Finally, I hit my goal last week of being able to ride go-carts with my kids.  The last time I tried about 4 years ago, I had to leave because I couldn't fit in the harness.  This was sweet victory and I showed those two how it was done on the race course!!  😈

    The Forbidden Craves

Yes, probably not. The whole appeal is like watching a train wreck. Most of my comments to my wife while watching are like, "they just left the wendy's drive thru and went right to the arby's drive thru, wow..."

    The Forbidden Craves

Watching how some of those folks eat is truly revolting, but I end up cheering them all on the whole way. I just don't like how TLC makes them a spectacle to fit in with all their other sideshow attractions on the channel. Every episode is exactly the same, but with different people. First hour, bad eating habits, horrible home life (or some other tragic back story), then watching them bathe while blurred out, then more eating and watching them interact with others in their family. Second hour, trip to Houston to see the Dr who puts them on a 1200 calorie a day diet for a month or two to lose 50 to 100 pounds, then they return and always fail, then he gives them another month or two to do it after a big lecture, about 80% are successful (that get televised) and they get the surgery. End of episode, how they are doing 1 year since they first started and what their future outlook is. Rinse and repeat. I feel like once you've seen one or two of the shows, you've pretty much seen them all. They need to do 300lb life which would relate to most of the people who come here.
  17. I just downloaded a recent episode, going to listen in my car on the way home today. I hope this is successful for you.
  18. On my plan, i could have ground meats just before the solid food stage at week 6, I believe. Lettuce wasn't allowed until after week 9 due to the roughage part of it. I'm at 3 months out, off restriction and I still have issues with raw veggies, but it's getting better.

    Cravings from Hell

    mmmmmmm.....Goldfish crackers, they're the best!
  20. I wish I had taken a pic when I just flew on southwest, but I was great, I had about 8 inches to spare considering a year ago I had to use a seat-belt extender on the same flight. Congrats to you all!

    Non Scale Victories

I just flew on an airplane for the first time since early last year. Holy crap it was great; I mean "great" in terms of how travelling through airports and dealing with other numb-skulls can be. I flew Southwest and wasn't scared about not having assigned seats or that scared look the already-seated passengers give you when they see a big person who might sit next to them. I actually ended up sitting in the aisle and didn't touch the person next to me with my fatness like normal. Also, i didn't have to ask for a seat-belt extender, I had about 8 inches of belt left over, i felt so good about it.
  22. Hello all, I have both a Schwinn exercise bike and a Schwinn eliptical and I'm very happy with both machines. I'm looking to add to my home gym and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for a home gym weight set. I was looking at the Marcy Smith and Bowflex items, but I just don't get the feeling of what is and isn't well made. Looking to keep it under $1K. Thanks in advance

    Three Months Post-Op

Thanks for the response, I love those Babybel cheeses. Before my surgery I used to buy the 12 pack and eat them all in one sitting. Those were my kryptonite for sure.

    Three Months Post-Op

Your weight lost total is stellar. Nice work Ellf! Do you have go to meals most days? I'm trying to find my groove still and I've hit a rut. Granted I haven't weighed myself in 3 weeks or so, but I know that I'm stalling a bit due to how things fit. I purposely haven't been weighing myself so I won't become obsessive about it. Also, what's your workout regiment like? Nice Job! ps. almost forgot we have the same surgery date, so I'm curious because of that and where we are at the same time.
