I STRONGLY agree with Debbles. This is not just some easy way out. Tell people that the band is only a tool...and you need to do a lot of work you utilize that tool. Exercise, VERY special dieting, pain, all that stuff goes with it, so if they think it is an easy way out, just let them think it cause we all know differently! Good luck on your journey! I'm new here and thinking about the Lap Band Surgery
j_holm07 replied to MissBevy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Why hello Bev! Please do not be concerned about your questions we all have them! I am only 4 days from having my lap band put on and I have a lot of the same questions as you do! Growing up on a farm, I have learned to LOVE food, and I cook often. You will still be able to eat what you want, its just a matter of Protein and portions. That is not to say that there is not great discipline that goes hand in hand with this surgery. I don't recommend this surgery if you have a hard time dealing with stricter food guidelines. But I am only 19 and I am doing this....thats a lot of years of not chowin down when i want to, but I am doing this for me and only me. This is my life, and thats how you gotta look at it. You want to be healthier, and the Lap-Band is a GREAT tool to attain that goal. Only a few more days and I will have broken this curse that has haunted me!!! GOOD LUCK TO ALL THE JULY BANDSTERS!! -
As some know, I am only 19 and I am undergoing the lap-band. I thought that due to my age, my insurance, Medica would not cover the surgery, but they pulled through for me and decided to cover it! I am in my final steps and am only weeks from surgery!!! Josh:thumbup:

purees right after surgery? Advice Needed, please!
j_holm07 replied to erinbefore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really depends on the surgeons wishes....your pouch can handle it after 4, but some make it 6 JUST to be on the safe side...if you feel it could do harm than try some liquids and see if you like that for a couple days then go to puree and mushie. Surgery in 5 days...NERVES! NEED ADVICE!
j_holm07 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I am only 5 days from surgery and have some questions. Now that it is so close my nerves are KILLING ME. Here are some, anything will help! -How does one throw up after surgery with such restriction? -Is there ever a time when you mourn the loss of eating regularly? -Is the post-surgery liquid diet TOO hard to follow? -How do you know when to get fills? -Do you ever feel the lap band...as in when your just plain walking do you ever go,"oh, i can feel the band!" -How do you approach people who ask you why you aren't eating normally (those who dont know you didnt have the procedure)? -What is recommended, from bandsters, that are good liquid foods that are surgeon approved that ACTUALLY taste good? If there is any other advice you can think of its appreciated! Being only 19 I feel like the youngin of this site, so I appreciate everyones support!*Josh* -

Hello! My name is Josh. I am 19 years young and going on 20. Back in December I made the decision to start my journey towards a weight loss surgery. In January i attended a meeting and decided on the lap band. After months of structered dieting and exercise I am coming up on my final appointment! My surgery is tentatively in May. I have been overweight my entire life, and I have done everything in the world i can think of to lose weight and I finally found the answer :rolleyes2:!! I am getting excited but nervous at the same time for this. I am ready for the change, but wonder how everyone around me will accept it. Well, I joined this site to help find answers from peers to the surgery..so I hope I get to know some of you! Josh
