Almost 8 months post op. Lost a bit more than I had set my goal to (I’m at 127 lbs; 5’7). Stress has a lot to do with it. Been meaning to ask all post-op pals, because my ma (had the sleeve done 4.5 years ago) and I struggle to eat during the day, but find eating the same foods so easy throughout the night. Are we the only ones going through this, or are there others who are going through the same thing? If so, how do you deal with it?

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
IsabellasBlues replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m glad you relate, but I’m so sorry you’re struggling too. We keep thinking this surgery will make our lives better, and I believe it has, for the most part, but I think my inner fat girl is going through shock. -

So happy for you, Megan. As for working out, I’ll recommend my two top apps for home work outs: Kayla Itsines’s “Sweat” (membership required) or Emily Skye’s “FIT” (free, last I checked). Whichever you choose, they WILL work. It’s a matter of preference. Good luck! -
Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion

I’ll throw in my two cents. I’m a summer surgery (July 25). I’ve had ups and downs along the way. Promotion at work (yay) but the dark shadow of depression lurks around every corner (been on medication from 2010-2017, until I found out gym worked better, and is way cheaper!). Since surgery, I am happy to announce that I’m 57 lbs lighter physically, and add a hundred emotionally (on good days). Being post op, even with all the weight loss, takes a toll on one’s mental health. With all my research pre-op, I didn’t realize this. Is it just me, or did anyone else struggle emotionally? -

I’m so sorry you’re having difficulties! I feel genuinely sad that people have struggled post op, and I wish I could see every one of you guys and give you a hug. I will definitely be praying for you, and I hope things get done smoothly. You deserve it! And please keep us updated! Thanks for letting me know about Ellie. I’m in Barcelona now, heading to Greece for the weekend, then back to Spain. -

Dear Ellie, I’m sorry you had to go through all this. I’m glad you’re doing better now, and I hope your flight is comfortable. Whereabouts in Europe are you going? I’m here on a conference right now, so I’ll be happy to assist and/or keep you company when needed! -

WHAT made you choose YOUR SURGEON?

Thanks, Aggi. I was extremely lucky with him, and I know now to never take for granted the way he pushed for me. I wish more doctors were like him! -
WHAT made you choose YOUR SURGEON?
IsabellasBlues replied to Frustr8's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
My answer is a bit different. I’ll try to answer without too many back stories. My surgeon performed WLS on both my mother and brother in the past three years. I’ve seen how he deals with them. Great character. When I was struggling with weight loss, he was happy to meet for coffee and discuss my options (I didn’t meet minimum requirements for WLS). However, he pushed for me to get the sleeve and argued family history and pre-diabetic stages. So here I was, lower BMI than most WLS patients, with everything to prove I was on a healthy diet (1200 calories a day) and exercising with a trainer six days a week, still gaining weight steadily (66 lbs in one year), and frustrated as crazy with my body. He pushed and argued my case to everyone. And now, 2.5 months post-op, I’m 20 lbs away from my normal weight, and it’s all thanks to him. The doctor who fought for me. -

Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies: POST-OP Discussion
IsabellasBlues replied to Ylime's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you, Ellie. I have no doubt that dehydration plays a part in it. I hardly drink any water, and if I do, it’s one or two cups a day. Three if I go to the gym. It’s not that I forget, I’m very hands-on at work, interacting with parents and kids throughout the day and not staying in my office, so the bottle of water I put on my desk in the morning is hardly touched by the end of the day. I’ll try to be better! -

Thank you, Megan! Getting a response lifted my spirit so much! I already checked, all my bloodwork and other tests are normal. It’s just physical pressure being post op (and I’m not a big eater... one sit-down meal and the rest is just snacks as I go), and psychological pressure of having all those responsibilities that I once thought were a luxury. I am looking into Whole 30, at least to force myself to eat more nutritious food. Thank you for the recommendation. Have a great day! -

Been gone for a while. My update is this: 2.5 months post-op. 44 lbs down since surgery. Promotion at work (from vice principal to principal of a K-12 private school). Here’s the issue: paralyzing headaches near the back of my head. All the time. Every day. Went to a neurologist and she said it’s a culmination of pressure from work and pressure on my body. I did all the tests. It’s a tension headache. I got prescribed a muscle relaxant and an antidepressant. For personal reasons, I refused to take the antidepressant. I’m doing much better with the other medication. Going to the gym 4x a week. I’m just struggling at work, especially since most of my subordinates think I’m too young to be principal (I’m at least 20 years younger than both assistant principals). I just needed to vent, and this seems like the safest place to do it. I don’t do comfort food anymore, soooo.... yeah. -

@mel86 stalls are normal. I gained 1.3 pounds one week, and the next week I went down 3 lbs. don’t be bummed. It’s a process! -
Hi everybody. One week out of surgery, and my nutritionist recommended I maintain the clear liquid diet for two more weeks. I came across this clear protein drink, incredibly delicious and does not cause me any problems. I just find an issue balancing with drinking protein and drinking water. Anybody else struggling with that? And does anybody have any recommendations regarding how I can maintain the balance? Thanks!

Liquid protein vs. Water?

I hear ya! 😂 I keep trying to meet my drinking goals, but it seems like the day ends before I get a chance to drink what I should! Guess I can only keep trying! -
