    40 something sleevers?

I'm 42 and I was sleeved 3 weeks ago. I don't think I could have afforded the surgery in my 30s and I don't think I was mature enough to handle all the lifestyle changes that come with the surgery. I do wish I had it done 2 years ago when I started having PCOS issues. I wasted a lot of time trying to fix a problem that the surgery has improved already.
  2. I really like the Diet Snapple Peach Tea sticks--they've been a favorite of mine since before surgery. If I could just drink those, I don't think I'd have a problem getting 64 ounces in. But they have caffeine. How much of a problem is that? I am 3 weeks post-surgery.

    PCOS

I'm the OP of this thread and wanted to check back in to share my experience since being sleeved. I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and I already notice a difference. My skin and hair have stopped being oily and I no longer have issues with hot flashes/sweating. My hemorrhoids disappeared immediately after the surgery. And I got my period on time for the first time in ages. It lasted 3 days with only half a day of serious cramping. For about 2 years now I've been dealing with not getting a period at all, and then having a period that wouldn't stop. I am genuinely impressed so far.

    Getting sleeved tomorrow!

Well, I did it! Made it home today. I ended up staying a day extra in the hospital because my oxygen was low. But I feel so much better now--I am sore, and sleepy, but I feel so much better being home. I was probably the most chicken person in the world for getting VGS. If I can do it, anyone can!
  5. It's been a rough week. On Tuesday, the billing department at the hospital told me I'd have to pay $3k instead of $600 on the day of surgery. My husband managed to work it out. They were trying to bill my surgery as a cosmetic procedure. On Wednesday, my boss got up in my grill for asking for time off during a busy portion of the year, even though she approved me to be off a month ago (and I haven't asked for extended time off in 4 years. I never even take vacation). She almost asked me to reschedule, but I was able to find coverage and will come back from leave early. I work from home, so I think this will be OK. On Thursday night, I ended up in the ER with a whopping case of indigestion. Today, I dropped my daughter off for a week with her grandparents. I am still terrified of the surgery but at this point, I am so tired and so hungry and so ready to be done with waiting for surgery that I am ready for surgery. I go in to the hospital at 5:30am, so at least I won't have to wait around for long. Hope the other August 6th sleevers have a good day tomorrow.

    None of Your Business!

At work, I just told them I was having surgery. No one asked any follow up questions. I told one trusted friend and she disappointed me by trying to talk me out of it, and to use essential oils instead. So it's just my husband, and my therapist who know. We even met my mother at a BBQ restaurant today to drop my daughter off for a week's visit. I drank my protein shake and played it as a "diet." Which is true.

    Liquid diet

I am on Day 4 of the liquid diet and I feel worse. Woozy, easily distracted, my body aches, and I am tired. It's hard to focus on work. I am having 4 protein shakes a day, 2 servings of chicken broth, Gatorade (diluted), and jello. I couldn't find sugar-free popsicles at the store, but I can have those, too.

    Bump in the road...

I was able to get CareCredit but for only 1/2 the amount they require. My husband is calling the billing department of the hospital today to see why they changed things up on me, and to actually get something in writing. Every time I call this hospital, I get a different answer--and I am talking to the same person each time.
  9. My surgery is on August 6, and I am on the liquid diet. I just got a call from the hospital that they are expecting my entire deductible to be paid upon arrival. I have a separate bariatric deductible of $3k that covers everything above the $3k for surgery. I had to point out this deductible to them weeks ago, because they were quoting me all sorts of outrageous prices for the surgery. When I pointed it out to them, they said, "OK, so you would pay $3k, but the day of surgery, you could just pay a percentage of that. Like, around $600." So that's what I was planning to do when I went in on Monday. I've budgeted $600, not $3k all at once. I may not end up getting the surgery after all...

    PCOS

I was wondering how many women who've had the sleeve surgery have noticed a change in PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) symptoms post-surgery. I've been having hormonal issues for over a year now and I am hoping the surgery will help.

    August 2018 sleeve surgery!!

August 6th surgery date here. Starting my week-long liquid diet tomorrow. I thought I would spend this weekend saying goodbye to my favorite foods and restaurants and I just haven't felt like it. I am just ready to get the surgery done.

    I feel scared and ashamed...

I wasn't as terrified of my C-section as I am of this surgery because I didn't get a "choice"--it was an emergency and I was just along for the ride. An added layer of anxiety--we are taking my daughter, who is 11, to her grandparents' house to spend the week of my surgery hanging with them and playing with her cousins. We didn't plan this, it just worked out that way (I haven't told my mom about the surgery as I don't think she would be supportive). This will be the first time my daughter has been away from home for such an extended period of time. I think it will be OK, that she would enjoy herself more with her cousins than at home during my recovery. It's definitely easier on my husband. But I still worry about her being so far away while I am undergoing surgery.

    Stigma with WLS

Other than my husband and my therapist, I've only told one other person. She's a very dear friend of mine and we've been close for over a decade. She's like a substitute mom to me. So I felt it was safe to confide in her. She was very upset and wants me to use essential oils to lose weight. She says the surgery is dangerous and I am doing it for the wrong reasons. I wish I had never told her, to be honest. And it has made me recommit to not telling anyone else about it.
  14. Hi everyone, I am new to the forum. I am scheduled to have VGS on August 6th. I weigh about twice what I should and have high blood pressure. Insurance approved it and I am good to go--but I can't get over the fear of not waking up from the surgery, and the shame that I let my weight get to the point that I need medical intervention. Has anyone else struggled with these emotions? If so, what can I do to overcome them?
