Hi everyone- and congrats to all of you. I was banded this morning and haven't even had a pain pill but I do have this pain on the left right under the rib. I was wondering if it is gas or something else? My mouth is SOOOO dry...I can't stand it. only have had water so far today. May try some broth soon.

Hang in there...just keep in mind this is only temporary! I am on day 8 of 8 of liquids with surgery tomorrow. My preop diet was basically like yours but I couldn't have jello or popsicles. The drinks get really old...but yes the broth tastes delicious!! Just remember it will keep you safe through surgery!! Good luck and YES you can do this!! -

I'm so excited!! tomorrow is my big day! I'm glad to hear that you two aren't suffering to bad with the pain and/or gas. Keep sipping those liqiuds...you don't want to get dehydrated. -

Hi Kat! I am being banded on Friday with the Realize band. My surgeon already knows that is what he is using...as he is switching over to the Realize band. Some differences are: less errosion, less slippage, more stable port and self adhesive. There is a Realize site as well that shows comparason.

Hi Lapdeb! I am being banded on Friday, May 9th too!! I can't say I have fear but there are a whole lot of other emotions going on!! I think we will be just fine!! Good luck and let's touch base afterwards.

The realize band has been being used in Switzerland for the past 15yrs and has been FDA approved here last year sometime. There are benefits such as reduced errosion, less slippage, and easier access port, and the port doesn't flop and it is also self adhesive to the stomach. I'm on day 6 of 8. It isn't so bad...just sick of these drinks with no variety!! I'll keep you posted. You've done great!

Hey Lizbuff! It sounds like you are off to a great start. I am banded on Friday. I am being optimistic that basically my week off work will be like a vacation! I feel certain the more your up moving around the better! Keep us up to date! Congrats.

Hi CoolCrystal, I haven't heard anything about it blowing up like a triangle. It is still round...and it is the sweedish band which is USA approved. The sweeds have been using it for 15yrs. There are benefits such as less slippage, less errosion, and less port flopping. If you go to the Realize website it has it on there. good luck with your AP band.

I live in Whites Creek which isn't far from Madison or Hendersonville! Debbiejean, You can inspire all of us! Cleanteeth, hang in there! I am being banded on Friday at VAnderbilt by Dr. Holzman. He is using the new band (Realize). I am on my 5th day of liquids. It has it ups and downs but it certainly helps with the head hunger!

I have BC which required me to loose 10% which put me below 40BMI and yep...they denied me. So...my docs office said gain some weight. I did and got my BMI back up to 40 and was approved. I think the Ins companies want to make it as hard as possible. It is all a game they play. Play it with them!!

My BC social worker actually told me the same thing. She said to be prepared as I change so will the people around me. I have only one (overweight) friend who has made comments like "when you get skinny you won't want to hang around with me and she also asked me one day "when you get skinny are you going to forget what it is like to be heavy?". I can see her jumping ship. I will hate that but I have to do what is best for me.

I am on 4 of 8 in liquids only and am learning alot! I have been to 2 restaurants with friends and family this weekend. I learned I can ACTUALLY sit and watch people eat and just enjoy the company without eating! It wasn't so bad. I think this is preparing me for my new life!! Good luck to all and think NEW changes!

Thank you all for your responses!! My surgeon hasn't given me any of the online stuff yet. I am sure I will get it the day of. Princess!!! that is fabulous about the 48pds. It would be neat to see a comparason between realize and the lapband. Does the Realize sight have message boards like this?

From what I understand the Realize band is in only one size. I read your posts about pre-op. I am 8 days liquid. This weekend has been bitter sweet. Went to a restaurant twice and didn't eat. I learned I can be at a rest and not eat, enjoy the company and survive!! Good luck to you! -
thank you both for your responses. Do either of you use the Realize web support? I was told by my surgeon it is a great program. I can't wait!! Did your doctors put any fill in at the surgery time?

Not drinking beer has been a concern of mine too! Nothing better than a cold beer on a hot summer afternoon!! I have been trying different things in preperation for the absence. Vodka and diet tonic isn't to bad or Jack and diet. My doc's office actually recommends NO carbonated drinks EVER! It might have to be good ol vino!

I am being banded on May 9th. I am on day 2 of liquids-6 carnation breakfast drinks, broth and low cal/sugar free drinks. I find out really quickly if I don't drink enough water I get a headache. I have a lot of temptations coming up next week at work. I tell myself this is not an option. good luck to all of you!
