I know that having a support system is really important on this journey. I do have a lot of people who do support me. My question is how do you deal with those who are close to you not supporting this journey? A close relative does not think that getting sleeved is a good idea. I have started this process before, and they made it very clear that the don't think it is a good idea. I just recently started my journey again (I like to think of it as I got a bit lost, now I am on track again), and I have not told this family member about it yet. So, in short, how do you deal with those who are not supportive?

Dealing with those not supportive

CrankyMagpie, this is it exactly. It is my mom, to be completely honest, and I feel the same way as you are explaining. Every diet I have tried, she has tried to sabotage. When I say no, she keeps pressuring. Then when I keep saying no, I am "no fun". Thank you to everyone who responded. I was just in a place of frustration of what do I do. -

I don't have to tell them, I guess. I am holding off as long as possible this time around. This sentence is going to stick with me. It struck a cord with me. Thanks you! It is 100% true. -

I agree 100% with you. I have a gut feeling as to why they don’t approve. I honestly feel as if they don’t want me to be healthier. They have done this to me before. They want me, for whatever reason, to be completely unhappy in every way. I am at the point where it is my body, my choice, my life, and my happiness. It’s just hard when you are close to someone who doesn’t approve. -

"morbidly Obese" since childhood
pugmom234 replied to Medowsweet's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Looking back, it is really sad. Being in healthcare now, I don’t think I would approach the subject the same way with an 8 year old. I agree, “go play outside” or “what activities do you like?” would be much more fitting. I think the biggest thing I learned is some people (doctors more specially) don’t know how to bring up the topic without being judgmental. I had a primary care dr ( I must have been 18) walk in to the exam room, not say hello, and tell me I need to have “the surgery”. He went on and on for about 15 minutes about how I NEED to have it done. It honestly turned me away from surgery for a long time. Your rant, is how I feel now, at 28. I wouldn’t ever tell my son he is fat and needs to diet. In all honesty, I try not to make any comments about my body in front of him. Sorry, I went off on a tangent there. -

Me!! I can remember going to the doctor and him telling me to go on a diet. I must have been 8 or so. -

What kind of post-op tea did you drink?
pugmom234 replied to 3nuthut's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Trying to kick coffee, so this thread is helpful. Thanks!!! I just stocked up -
I was just looking through my packet, and my hospital has a integrated medicine team. So, they come in pre-op for massage and stuff. I know 3:30 isn't ideal, if it was me, I would be anxious all day. Maybe your hospital offers something like that to help with the "big day" nerves. Good luck on your big day!!

Overwhelming tasks!
pugmom234 replied to AngelaM258's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok ignore the above 🤦♀️ I hit post too soon!!🤣 Before my phone decided I was done... I have no co morbidities my self. My thought is if I am at risk for something I would like to know. I had to do a barium swallow, not an EGD. I do think it is all a bit much, but if he needs It and insurance wants it, I’ll jump through the hoops. -

I agree with this. It is still up in the air as to how my insurance will approve the surgery (My company keeps changing requirements,). But if there is an issue, or potential issue, check me out! I want to know before hand. It seems like this can be a long process (sounds like I am in the same stage as you guys), but in the end I want to be armed with as much as I can to help me be as successful as can be. -
I had this conversation with my surgeon. He brought it up actually. He said most of his patients say they are having a hernia repair or other surgery. It’s not anyone’s business. I agree with him. I’m trying to figure out what to tell my boss at this point, too. I don’t think she needs to know specifics, especially because the gossip mill will start! Good luck!!

Consultation - questions that should be asked?
pugmom234 replied to mrswifey2008's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wanted to know how long of a recovery time I should expect. I like how long until I am back to “normal” activities. Pre-op testing. I have started this process before and the requirements are different. My surgeon has a PA, I was curious if I could see just him or if I had to see both. There is a ton I kept thinking of lol
