nrbradley0 started following First step in the process, Emotional Eating and Choosing between bypass and sleeve
-
So I’m halfway through the 6-month classes for my surgery. I have my cardiac and pulmonary clearances and I’m going to counseling for my psychiatric clearance. I know I am an emotional eater, and I know I’ve gained weight since my last weigh in. My insurance doesn’t require me to lose a certain amount of weight to get approved. I’m just struggling because I’m so stressed with everything. Has anyone else dealt with this? How did your doctor react? I just worry he’ll think I can’t do it. I’m working on it with therapy but it takes time. Ugh.

Choosing between bypass and sleeve

@elmatador I’m at 275-ish and my goal weight is 170-180. I had heartburn really bad when I was pregnant but I also found out I have a hiatal hernia that will be fixed during surgery -
Choosing between bypass and sleeve

Thank you for all of your input! I’m so torn. Each of them have their appeal and downside. Every time I think I have my mind made up, I end up changing it! -

Choosing between bypass and sleeve

I just had a follow-up appointment with my bariatric surgeon from my EGD and he said that I have the option between roux-en-Y gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and lap band. The lap band was a no for me, so I have the option between the other two. What is everyone’s input on each surgery and what made them pick one over the other? Thanks in advance! -

First step in the process

Thanks for the responses! To _Shane_, the office was able to help out to a degree, but the bariatric surgeon is located an hour away from me and the specialists he specifically referred me to are out of network for me, so I had to have them change the referral to someone local and in network. -
Hello all! I met with the bariatric surgeon on July 13th for my initial consultation and am compleeeeetely overwhelmed. I am having an endoscopy done on July 24th and I will need to see a cardiologist, pulmonologist, psychiatrist, and get a letter of necessity from a family doctor. On top of all of that, I will need to do 6 months of classes. The surgeon said all of this is normal and is also usually required by insurance (BCBS EPO). So I guess I was looking to see if anyone else is this early in their journey, or any seasoned vets who have pearls of wisdom they would like to share. Thanks!
