    Banded yesterday, in pain

Listenhard- You've come to the right place! I was banded last Wednesday and hit a low Saturday with the exact same gas issues and incision pain and wondering why I had done this for...my health??? But I took my perscriptive pain meds as often as I could for 2 days and all I did was sleep, walk, burp, drink clear fluids, and pee. Then I shifted to Tylenol for a few more days, with more walking, less burping. Now, I'm feeling fairly normal and following my doctor's mushy/runny diet (the glory of a Magic Bullet...) and can sleep on my side. And NOW I can see again that I did this for my health. Others on this forum completely helped me get past Saturday, so I'm paying it forward (hopefully with interest) to let you know you didn't make a mistake. I'm still learning to listen closely to the signals to tell me I'm full with mushy food...have had to cut out reading or watching tv while I eat. Good luck!:blushing:

    DFW Area Bandsters

Miss Meliss- I know it starts with an 'S':blushing:...it's easier to just call the main number for LBS and ask to speak to the office manager. She was so quick to help and understands that we're all overanxious! A friend and I had similar challenges with Nancy and lack of communication. I finally asked for the UHC case number and managed the process myself. But don't let that discourage you...I am overall really happy with Dr. Smith's office and looking forward to my post-op appointment tomorrow! Good Luck!!!

    DFW Area Bandsters

Howdy! How great to find other DFW Bandsters!!! I just had my procedure with Dr Adam Smith last Wednesday and he has been wonderful. I had a mixed experience with some of his staff but a new office manager has made an immediate difference to restore my comfort level overall. I'm looking forward to the post-op appointment this Wednesday to get more guidance on this procedure as well as the group meetings on Tuesdays...I'm hoping to make the 2nd and 4th Tuesday sessions because they are led by Dr Counts and I really enjoyed meeting with her for my psych session (plus she's also a band patient of Dr Smith's!). All of the Tuesday sessions are held in their Park Plaza building on the 6th floor...I haven't been yet but was told they started at 6pm, not 6:30 so appreciate anyone to confirm that? I'm looking forward to seeing some of you in May!

    Yuck!!!

Ah Ha! I thought it might be this mushy food causing the loose stools, especially since I don't have any other symptoms now. So I will bring it up at my post-op this Wednesday but still feel better that it's just part of the first month fun :-). Thanks for the informative post!
  6. Yes, the plan with Dr. Smith is only 48 hours on clear liquids and then 3-4 weeks on mushy. So far so good and I'm grateful to be on at least mushy... And I know pasta is one of those questionable foods now :-(, so thank you for the the reminder as I really need to think before anything goes into my mouth now...more than ever! Did you find a similar challenge with breads, even wheat?
  7. Thank you and good luck on your efforts as well...insurance was my longest and most frustrating wait so my fingers are crossed for you!
  8. I am very happy to find an active on-line forum for lap band patients! I'll be starting group sessions next Tuesday but this is also nice to have since I do travel a lot for my job. I was banded on 4/16/08 and hit a low last night with all the gas I was experiencing. But it helped to find the post-op forum on this site and see that this is all pretty normal and I just need to take a dramatic change one day at a time. Today I woke up with hardly any gas and the pain from the incisions has shifted to itching as they heal. That seems to be a good sign. I had my procedure done by Dr. Adam Smith in Ft. Worth TX. He came highly recommended by several people I spoke to and a close friend of mine will be going to him this summer as well. It's been a mixed bag with his office staff, but he has always been great when I've spoken to him as well as his primary RN. Anyone else a patient of Dr. Smith? I lost 15 lbs from the 2 week pre-op diet restrictions of no-carbs so that was mixed since I really like some carbs (pasta!) and am looking forward to adding a little bit of Pasta back into my diet every once in a while. Otherwise, I think I'm continuing to lose weight this week just because of 2 days of clear fluids and now this mushy diet. I highly recommend a Magic Bullet! I bought one right before my procedure so I could mash up Soups and such and it is so convenient and a perfect size! I'm also looking into a single-cup coffee brewer since we're supposed to start the day with a hot, non-dairy drink but hot cocoa (even with water) is a little too sweet. Anyway, I wanted to start with the right forum for introductions and I'm looking to continue to move around this forum and learn more from established lap band patients as well as sympathize with others that are at my same phase! Cheers!
  9. Hi Everyone- I just officially joined this forum although I lurked before my procedure last Wednesday. Was still surprised by the uncomfortable gas and am going around with the "What have I done?" mantra tonight. Thank goodness I found this thread :-). It was very comforting to see that this is all normal and progresses as I heal and learn. I'm looking forward to being on this forum quite a bit and happy to see so many supportive people! Thank you!
