    Pedometer- beginning steps?

My average steps per day...not working out...just walking at work and with my son is between 6,000 and 8,000 a day. It never goes lower than 6,000 but often goes up to about 10,000 steps a day. It's a good question...I am wondering what a work out in steps would look like in numbers.

    Hello!!

My insurance required a BMI of 40 or higher with comorbidities for approval. Have you determined what your BMI is?

Not losing - fill in 2 days

My SIL suffers with MS. I hate watching he in pain. Swimming has been great for her. Even when we walk together the next day is painful for her...plus...she risks triping when we walk on the trails. She was able to ease into swimming and then low impact water aerobics. Have you tried swimming?
  4. I haven't been able to take off more than 5lbs in the last six years...and I took off 23lbs. in five weeks with the band. I feel so much better...and my endocrinologist approved of my band choice.
  5. I went to biglots to purchase some floaties for the pool and they had the magic bullet for under $30.00/

NSV Thread for the May Bandsters!

I played tennis with my son on Friday and ran after the ball!
  7. I'm having a cup of coffee right now...per my Drs. approval. My Dr. and nutritionist stated that I could have glass of wine or a mixed drink after 3 months of recovery. I'm allergic to sulfites so there are only a few wines that I can drink. It's not a big deal but I will miss the beer that I had every now and then. BTW...caffeine is a noted appetite suppressant but is a diuretic as well.

    P.C.O.S and Metformin (glucophage)

Has anyone 's Dr. had reservations about birth control pills because of high blood pressure? My Dr. has refused for seven years to put my on BC because of my BP...and it's being treated.

    Low Carb Banders Unite

Guys, I'm not sure that i can stick to 30 carbs a day. I'm nauseous, dizzy, and sore. I know that this is part of the induction phase but I have to write lectures. Currently, I'm mentally deficient. There isn't any way that I can teach like this. I wonder if it would OK to bump it up to 50 grams a day?

I'm allowed to drink 10oz. of caffiene a day. I love my coffee. I used to drink 5 20oz. cups a day.

    Extended release meds pre-op

If you can swallow it whole it will be fine...but you cannot crush or break a time release capsule. I was able to continue with my medication.

    Hello from Sacramento

I have PCOS as well. I was banded on May 16th and have lost 21 pounds so far. I had some rough days after the surgery but they were taken care of with pain meds. I stayed overnight in the hospital and provided with some wonderful care. As someone with PCOS you should know how difficult 20lbs. has been...so I don't regret it one bit. Good luck in your decision making.
  13. Come on!!! You can do it. Don't let a faceless insurance company tell you that you can't. Jumping through their hoops in a real pain in the ass but in the end your going to be stronger and healthier and happier. You really do want the insurance company to cover your band...if anything goes wrong you know that you'll be covered. If you can lose 15lbs...then you can lose 6 more lbs. You should be very proud of yourself for losing the 15lbs. that you did. I know you'll do great.

    Heartburn & vomiting?

Are you close in proximity to your Dr.? I would ask the Dr. to see me asap. I hope your feeling better soon.

    Hello to all

A colleague of mine went to a surgeon in Denver and paid $9,000.00. There are many members that had wonderful success with surgeons in Mexico but it was very important for me to have a surgeon that was available to me within a few hours of contacting him with a problem. I also wanted my Dr. to be involved with my long term care and be readily available when I was getting fills or had questions and concerns regarding my band. I know that others have that relationship with their Drs. in Mexico...but my Dr. is down the street from my office.

    Checking out doctors

    I did the same thing.
  17. I had it the whole time I was on liquids and then had to take Myralax to reverse the constipation once I was on pureed foods.
  18. I saw the electronic one as well...or was it magnetic? Either way it was cool. I didn't have an option of where my port was placed. It's on my left side.

Where did my band go? Anyone else?

Lisa, why don't you call Kelly and ask her what she thinks? I know that some people have issues with flying...that's what I would be concerned about rather than the health care in Cambodia. There have been too many inconsistencies with Rachel for my liking. Have you considered speaking to Dr. McClosky? I'm not sure if she is approachable or not but I would certainly voice my concerns. I've learned to follow my gut instinct when it comes to the office. I've been very pleased with the nursing care and the surgeon but I am very cautious when it comes to the PA.
  20. It's a seminar not a consult...I went to a seminar that was conducted by a surgeon that i wasn't impressed with. It didn't really matter as he was using a power point presentation and conveying information to a large group of people. I chose several surgeons that I wanted to interview and used the information that I obtained from the seminar to interview them. The seminar is a formality and an issue of compliancy. It's a way of weeding out people that are looking into a procedure rather than taking up the surgeons time on an individual basis. A nurse is able to convey the same information as a Dr.

    Diet Pills & the Band

I was just thinking of taking my meridia as well. I think that I will call my Dr. and ask him if it is ok. My Dr. does prescribe diet pills if patients are having difficulty losing weight but I'm not sure how he would feel only five weeks out of surgery.
  22. Your first concern should be yours and the baby's health. I would go for an unfill or at least have some of your fill removed. You really don't want to have this hanging over your head when you are trying to enjoy your brand new baby. Are you still taking your prenatal vitamins?
  23. I had the same feeling of kicking and it was a tremendous amount of gas. You could even see my stomach moving. I never had any port pain...I know that lots of people do. I did, however, pull a muscle in my stomach from getting in and out of bed. I would call the Dr. if you are concerned. Although, I'm not so sure that he would be able to determine anything at this point or not. Feel better!

Where did my band go? Anyone else?

I would call and speak directly with Kelly. I have found that they respond well to assertive patients. Like I said, I've heard good things about Kelly. Rachel didn't make any of those appointments for me. I'm glad I know that you had them made for you. I'll call tomorrow and make sure that Robin takes care of it.

Where did my band go? Anyone else?

Bill is the only one that will do my fills. I don't care for Rachel at all and have decided that I dont' want her to do anything for me lol. However, I lucked out because Dr. Eid only has Bill do fills for him. My friend said the same thing about Kelly...she really likes her. Regarding appointments, have you called your Drs. secretary? Rachel screwed up all of my appointments; she had me seeing Bill at four weeks and seeing my Dr. at six weeks. When I called to tell them that I hadn't seen my Dr. yet they pulled his electronic calendar up and plugged me in. I wonder if it would be OK to make the next appointment on the day of your fill. Have you tried that?
