A question for carbonated soft drinks
Lunabeane replied to hstella's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told that I could never drink carbonated beverages and that I couldn't have caffeine for three months. I was a caffeine freak as well...but you will be surprised what you are capable of. I've had a couple of decaf cups of coffee over the last couple of weeks...and my stomach has been fine. However, it's awesome to be free of one more addiction. I thought I LOVED coffee but I really just NEEDED coffee. -
My Dr. told me that i could swim as soon as the glue was gone. I'm 14 days out and all of my glue is gone and my incisions are completely closed. It's too cold here to swim but according to my Dr. I could if I wanted to.

My port site was very swollen...and stil is but there wasn't any bruising.

Whats everyone eating?
Lunabeane replied to lulubrat's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you keeping track of your food intake. You might not be losing because you aren't getting enough calories. I've been sticking to a 1000-1200 calorie diet with a 40-60g Protein intake. I'm keeping track of my caloric intake using www.thedailyplate.com So far I have lost 16 pounds and have been walking. I've also made sure that I'm drinking 64oz. of Water or more a day. I'll give you an idea of what I ate today. Breakfast: snack pack of 2% cottage cheese Lunch: 3oz. of white albacore tuna with light mayonaise Dinner: Broccoli and Cauliflower Soup with 2% shredded cheese snacks: Jello pudding Decaf coffee and half and half -
That bandage residue....
Lunabeane replied to Northwest_Nance's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used liquid bandage...wiped it on and then used gauze to gently rub the residue off. My doctor used glue on my incisions but I used the liquid bandage to wipe the yucky gray stuff from my IV tape. -
Does your Dr. require you to take in 85g of protein? Please make sure to drink more water if you are taking in that much protein. The water will help your kidneys filter more effectively.

Where do you live? There is no reason why you should be forced to use one surgeon to remove your gallbladder. I saw three different doctors before I chose one to remove mine. I would run from a doctor like that.

I had to really force myself to drink after surgery. I used the unjury flavorless powder and put it my creamed Soups. It had no flavor. I don't like any of the vanilla or chocolate shakes and haven't had to use them at all. That said, I don't think that you are going to do any because of the lack of Protein in such a short period of time. The body is pretty resilient. I would try the unjury and use that until you transition to pureed foods. Once you are on pureed foods you shouldn't have any problem getting your protein via food rather than protein powder.

I want some REAL food!?!?!?!?!
Lunabeane replied to txjanaa1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have found that making my own creamed Soups is more filling than buying processed creamed soups. Not sure if you will find it interesting but I made cream of broccoli and cauliflower Soup 1 bag frozen broccoli florets 1 bag frozen cauliflower florets 2 cans of sodium free chicken broth 1 cup skim milk 1 stick of I can't believe it's Not Butter LIGHT 2 teaspoons of flower mixed with broth from the soup 1 cup of 2% Kraft shredded four cheeses I cooked the broccoli and cauliflower in the chicken broth until very soft. I used a hand blender and pureed the veggies in the chicken broth. I used the magic bullet to pureed the skim milk, four cheese blend, salt, garlic powerder, and white pepper. I then slowly integrated the milk mixture with the pureed veggies. I reserved a bit of chicken brother to mix the flour in and poured that in as well. I let it cook for approximately 30 minutes at medium heat. It hasn't been mastered but it was very filling and had a nice taste. I'm on pureed food but still find that going to fully liquids that are nutritious are just as filling. I was thinking about adding silken tofu to a small portion to see how it tastes. -
I am allergic to adhesive and get a terrible rash that seeps. I was fortunate that my Dr. didn't use tape. He stitched from the inside and then used glue. I would call the Dr. and ask if it is appropriate to use cortizone or another topical ointment.

I was banded by Dr. Eid at Magee on May 16th. When I met with Deb, the nurse, she said that Bill, the NA that does the fills for Dr. Eid will do fills every two weeks after the first fill. You might want to call and ask to speak to another person. I'm not sure if she was just telling me what she thought I wanted to hear or not, but I think it would be work the phone call. I'm not scheduled to get my first fill for another two weeks. Did Bill do your fill and did it hurt?

Have you tried the cheese soy crisps? Oh..and is the mexican tuber Yucca, Jicama, or Sunchoke? I love them all. The Yucca is a starch.

My doctor requires me to take prilosec twice a day for 3 months. I have never suffered from heartburn or acid reflux...but he said it was a requirement for all of his patients. Perhaps it would benefit you to call the doctor and tell him that you are having problems with heartburn. He's had me on them since the day after surgery...and I haven't had any problems swallowing the pills. I do cut them in half though.

No sleeping on your side the first week after.
Lunabeane replied to tmfritts's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My doctor or nurse practitioner didn't mention anything to me about not sleeping on my side. I'll ask about it when I go in for my one month visit. I believe I mentioned that I slept on my non port side at the one week follow up visit thought. I was only able to sleep on my back for three days and the non port side one the 4th day. Thanks for the info! -
Curious: An example of a days worth of food-after being banded?
Lunabeane replied to Startingover!'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I just started pureed food today. Breakfast: Yogurt Lunch: 3 oz. of white albacore tuna blended with cottage cheese and seasoned with salt and pepper Dinner: Tomato Soup with skim milk Snacks: fudge pop sugar free pudding -
That's the beauty of the internet...you can post wherever you want to and ignore all of the ugly. I wouldn't even respond to nonsense posts like the one above. It's obvious that there is interest in your procedure. I think that there are a lot of people on the lap band forum that need to know that their are options for them if their band fails or turns out to be the wrong choice. Again...I'm glad you are feeling healthy and satisfied with your choice. Don't let the cranksters get you down.

I got mine at www.tickerfactory.com I have to save it as a photo though...can't get it to work any other way.

Good for you! My doctor didn't offer the option of a gastric sleeve...I might have considered it otherwise. I hope this works for you and I'm glad that you are feeling well.

Just a few questions...
Lunabeane replied to browneyedgoddes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on May 16th and got my period three days later...I wasn't due for another 2 weeks. It made me cranky. -
I believe you! Do you mind me asking if you always felt discomfort/pain with your band or did the pain progress over time? I'm just trying to figure out if you walked out of the hospital feeling like something was wrong.

I really need some support !!!
Lunabeane replied to Linda Hamsing Rosen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried Miralax? I have had periods of diarrhea and constipation over the past 3 weeks with the pre-op and post-op diet and recovery period. I purchased the Miralax prior to surgery just in case I might need it. I had very bad diarrhea (I know...TMI) the first week but the second week was a totally different story. I just couldn't go to the bathroom and didn't feel like I was every going to go. I took the Miralax, which is tasteless and has no texture, and within 24 hours I was regular again. It doesn't cause cramping or anything like that. I believe that you can get it in a liquid formula but I bought the powdered formula and am very pleased with the results. I purchased it at my local grocery store. I decided to go with this rather than the benefiber that I usually take as I didn't want to contribute to the gas problem. Here is a link... MiraLAX OH...and just so you know...I have a very low pain tolerance. If I can do this...so can you! I made my Dr. aware of my anxiety regarding pain and he really took that into consideration when determining what pain meds to put me on. He understood what I needed because I was open and honest with him. It's not something to be embarrassed of...some people can tolerate and others can't. -
Question for you post-opers
Lunabeane replied to Melissa3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 12 days post-op and I went back to work today for a few hours. I could have gone back earlier but I have the time and decided to take it. I was supposed to drive 10 hours to visit friends on the 22nd but just didn't feel up to it. I really think that you will feel perfectly normal at six weeks out. And think about all of the exercise that you will be able to get in. -
Wow...that must have been scary! I haven't had any episodes like that. I did have one experience where it felt like something was going to go wrong...but it only lasted for a second. I immediately went back to creamed soups...cause I'm a chicken.

First test of will... i lost
Lunabeane replied to StacieS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh no! I'm so sorry that you lost your friend. It's such an awful feeling. When I lost my girl after 10 years I was heart broken for months. You have absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about...grief takes many forms. You are in the process of figuring out lots of things about your life...and when you're in crisis you revert back to old ways. You'll eventually tackle crisis and trauma in more productive ways. When I lost my girl the little old neighbor man told me that "grief was the price that we paid for loving." I'm so glad that you have something as meaningful as you did...lots of people go their whole lives without something so special. -
Major surgery is defined as any surgical procedure that involves anesthesia or respiratory assistance. It's not comparable to a hang nail and it's not a surgery that should be taken lightly or conveyed as inconsequential. There are a lot of people that have serious medical problems resulting from their surgery.
