    Time off work?

Take as much time off as you can get! You can get your diet under control and start an exercise regimen. You'll feel great when you go back.

    My surgery was cancelled...

I'm sorry that you are disappointed. I would be too! Do you think that your husband is hesitant because he's concerned for your well being? I know that my husband would have been freaked out if the Dr. showed some doubt. Why don't you keep the surgery date and sit with your husband and talk about why he has reservations. I really hope it works for you.
  3. Congratulations!!!
  4. I really struggle with this as well. I'm going to try and put my fork/spoon down between bites.

    My mom "spilled the beans"

I'm sorry that this happened and that you are feeling badly. This is one of the reasons why I was open and forward about the whole procedure. I can't stand the judgement. Hopefully it will become less "interesting" to them.

    Post op muscle spasms

I agree that it could be gas. You could literally see my stomach pouncing up and down. It was terribly painful.

    glue instead of stitches

I am stitched on the inside and glued on the outside. I was able to shower the day after surgery. Thes incisions are much better than those from my gallbladder which are all puckered and gross. The scars from the lap band surgery and already flush with the skin and seamless.

NSV Thread for the May Bandsters!

Congratulations! I want my underwear to fall off LOL.
  9. My Dr. didn't say anything about chewing gum but my nutritionist said that gum chewing stimulates the appetite. I'm in very close contact with my students and always speaking to someone so I've switched to mints.

    Urinary Catheters

OMG...I said the very same thing today. I eat like a real person. I'm not consumed by food...and I love it. I'm only 3 weeks out and I'm still not hungry. I love it.

When does the pain go away

Unfortunately it's different for everyone. I know that my pain lasted far longer than most of the people on LBT. I still have pain...although now it's 2 on a scale of 10 because of some nerve damage but am totally able to function. There was no way that I could have done any "Mommying" even 5 days after surgery. Is there anyone that can help you out?

Why decaf coffee? I miss my caffeine!!!

No...not all of the condiments but there were still a lot of empty calories in there that I wasn't thinking of at the time. You know...sometimes I would sneak a packet of hot chocolate or half and half but I always used the splenda. Overall I feel healthier NOT have the addiction and just being able to have a cup of coffee when I want a cup of coffee. I hope to keep it up. However, during the school year my schedule is so crazy that I find myself gravitating to it as a crutch for not eating. Alas...just another part of me that needs to be regulated.

NSV Thread for the May Bandsters!

My weightloss has slowed...but hasn't stopped! However, I do have a couple of NSV's that I would like to share, 1. My capri pants are no longer capri's. NO...I didn't shrink...but I think that I lost in my hips and butt and they are hanging lower. I love it. Now I might not have to hem my pants. 2. My favorite necklace is longer...that freaked me out a bit. 3. I'm sweating less. I know that's gross but I sweat like a pig and I hate it. I went walking yesterday and I didn't sweat so disgustingly that I had to come home and take a shower. Psyched! 4. My rings fit better. Now if I could fit into all of my cutie patootie rings that I have stashed my jewelry box.

    eating ethnic food ...

I don't think that it'll be a problem...I mean Italian, India, and Asian people get the lap band and they don't have to eat American food LOL. I made a comment once to my friend about whether it was bad to eat sushi everynight and she said that 2 billion people eat it everyday and they were healthier than the two of us. I think the key is to take it slow and reintroduce foods day by day. I'm looking forward to eggs and chili sauce.

Why decaf coffee? I miss my caffeine!!!

Did your Dr. say that you couldn't drink coffee? My Dr. doesn't allow it for a brief period of time and then there is no problem. I was a very heavy coffee drinker...from 7am until 11pm. It was a bit difficult to cut it out of my diet for a while but I was in so much discomfort after the surgery that the pain meds allowed me to get through the withdrawls without me knowing it. I drank coffee up until the day before my surgery and had absolutely no problem not drinking it afterwards. There is no indication that caffeine makes your hungrier faster. In fact, caffeine is often the key ingredient in diet pills. Caffeine IS a diuretic and can lead to people not drinking enough Water which might lead to dehydration.

    Urinary Catheters

I had to have one. I argued against it but the surgeon refused to do the surgery without it. It was put in after I was in the OR and was taken out the following day. I didn't feel anything but I got a UTI within 48 hours after having it removed.
  17. When I met with my nutritionist prior to surgery she knew how much I loved my coffee. We sat down and evaluated how much coffee I drank and she she said that after the six weeks I could have 10oz. of caffeinated coffee a day and 20oz. of decaf. I was drinking 3 20oz. caffeinated cups a day...so now I will just drink in moderation. The only thing my Dr. ever said NEVER about were straws and carbonated beverages. Everything else should be in moderation and determined by what your body will tolerate.

What we need for hospital stay?

I really didn't need anything when I went to the hospital accept for a change of comfy clothes. It worked better for me to have a size bigger in comfy sweats so that they weren't tight around my waste. Toothbrush, toothpaste, comfy clothes, chapstick, hairband, liquid dial soap. That's what I had in the hospital. I was in too much pain to care about anything else.

    Fill 4 Weeks Out?

I was banded on May 16th and am scheduled for a fill on June 6th...exactly 4 weeks out, right? I find it strange that the PA scheduled the first fill for 4 weeks out when the Dr. told me that he waited until 6 weeks out because of fear of slippage. Do you think I should call and reschedule for two weeks later or at least ask if it was an oversight? Hell...I'm getting a fill before I meet with the Dr.? I haven't even met with my surgeon yet. At my 1 week post-op visit I met with his nurse. Was anyone else filled 4 weeks out or did the majority of people wait six weeks? I just don't want to increase my chances of slippage or erosion.

    Fill 4 Weeks Out?

Thanks so much for your feedback. I am going to give the PA a call on Monday morning and see what she needs to say. I'll admit that I'm nervous about fills. I'm afraid of being nauseous because I have to go back to work after the fill. The good thing is that my office is one block away from the hospital where I get my fills...so if anything goes wrong I just have to walk back! Thanks again.

    Incision area after

OMG...I hold my stomach like I'm 8 months pregnant, still!! The Dr. thinks that I might have some nerve damage that will eventually correct itself. If I'm on a bumpy road (which is every road in Pittsburgh!) then I hold my stomach. Do you know where your port is?

    Quick Question...

We finally got up to the 70's today...it rained for 15 days straight and was in the 40's! Finally...it looks like it's going to start to warm up. Until then...I look longingly at my pool. :tt2:

    Have Stopped losing

I have never heard of such a thing!!! Has this worked for you? I've been reading your blog off and on for the last several months and am so impressed with all of your accomplishments. I would love to know how you reached all of these milestones.
  25. I'm not sure if you damaged anything but the idea of it would consume me too. This is why I have refused several lunch dates over the past week. Why don't you call your doctor and ask him what he/she thinks.
