1.5 weeks post op ~ Pain under left rib gage

My understanding is that it is the CO2 gas that is pumped into you (so doctor can work) that causes the discomfort after surgery. The consensus seems to be that walking as much as you can helps....and since it's not gas inside your actual stomach/digestive area, GAS-X does not help this...you just have to wait it out. -

Help with Heartburn
JustKeepSwimming replied to KatallacStrong's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have NOT had my surgery yet and I'm not a doctor, but I take a natural remedy that works like a charm when I have heartburn now. I would say it's worth a try and if you make it on the mild side it shouldn't hurt your stomach. This is what I take: About 1 quarter cup of warm water, and the juice of half a lemon, 1 tsp of baking soda. Maybe do less lemon juice and omit the baking soda. What I have learned in the last few years is that as we get older we do not produce enough stomach acid to digest our food. Are you having heartburn during the day or only in the evening? AGAIN MY DISCLAIMER: I haven't had my sleeve surgery yet (10/17/18), but I know it's miserable and wanted to offer you something that has worked for me. Good luck <3 I would take the Tums, at least just temporarily if it will allow you to sleep, until you hear back from your surgeon. -

I have been researching Bariatric Keto, and there is a specific reset. It differs from regular keto in that it is protein, moderate fat, low carb. It seems to be very successful. I suggest looking it up.

Acid Reflux Concerns - Oct. Sleeve Surgery
JustKeepSwimming replied to JustKeepSwimming's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i have had severe reflux that has made me spring up to a sitting position from my sleep. That has happened after having a heavy meal and consumed alcohol (especially tequila or red wine). I don't do that anymore, thus I have not had this happen. I do have occasional minor acid reflux. My surgeon and the pre-op info so far does not indicate a endoscopy test in the horizon. Perhaps I should look into that. My preference is for sleeve surgery. Thank you for your responses! -
Acid Reflux Concerns - Oct. Sleeve Surgery
JustKeepSwimming posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello, This is a question for sleevers. I am scheduled for VSG on October 17, my doctor has warned me that I could potentially have acid reflux. I don't have severe reflux now, but have had it in the past and occasionally depending on how I eat (what, when and how much). I usually fix it by making a natural tonic of warm water, baking soda, lemon and/or apple cider vinegar. I am wondering if any sleevers have experienced horrible acid reflux, I have read on the forums a lot of VSG'rs getting revisionsto the by-pass. I'm wondering if you don't make the correct lifestyle changes you have acid or if it's unavoidable? Will I be okay for a few years and will it hit years down the line. There are cancer concerns with PPI meds that alleviate the reflux. i am having second thoughts because of this. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! -

Hi There! October 17th also! My BMI is 43, and my main comorbidity is severe sleep apnia. YAY, we've got this! Looking forward to a healthier body and life ahead!
