Who has had the sleeve? How did you do? Pros and cons? Would you do it again?
Lolo 2020 replied to HMA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks kris , how long did it take u to reach 165? Is that ur goal ? -
On this topic, i am 4 weeks out and trying to transition to foods, but the one day i didn’t have a protein drink i felt horrible, no energy and ravenous! Is everyone still on one or 2 protein drinks a day as they transition to foods? I don’t feel like i get enough protein without the drink

An honest update. Weight Gain

I am also so sorry you are struggling, we all know and feel for you, it is a battle. Perhaps be a little nicer to yourself, after all you must have done some things right! You lost 50 + Lbs! Maybe just breaking it down so it is a bit more manageable. Set your daily goals and start each day a new and don’t beat yourself up if you aren’t perfect. Personally i aim to get my steps in every day, but at one month out i had a bad cold and could barely get out of bed, so little if any steps that day! I try to plan my meals, my liquid , my exercise out a week, but do take it day by day, realizing it is a marathon , not a sprint. Sometimes i am ravenous too! But the good news is that a few tablespoons of food fill me up. Are you working with a nutritionist? Maybe that will help with hunger, also a personal trainer to get you motivated to move? I’ve spoken to a lot of thin people and no one wants to work out, they just view exercise and eating right as a daily chore, rather like brushing your teeth. No on wants to brush their teeth, but they do it because they need to. Perhaps approach your daily food and exercise intake the same? I am doing that, or trying to... seems to work. Just don’t give up on yourself! -
FYI I wasn’t perfect on the pre op 2 week diet. I did protein shakes during the day and then had a little protein and veg for dinner. My liver was just fine for surgery. I was pretty good the 2 days before surgery and certainly all liquids the day before. Doc said i had a done a good job but also i had a BMI of 34 starting. Just sayin..

I had surgery 12/20 and sure there have been difficult moments. This is not a no brainer, but hey , what in life that is worth it is? As the inflammation goes down you can drink more normally. But no u can’t eat what you used to and that is a good, albeit a different thing. Ive had to eat out for almost every meal the last week due to work and it has been interesting for sure. But now i get it. I just take to a smaller plate that size food which i know i can eat and put the rest aside, even sometimes covering it with a napkin. Dr. Vuong on you tube has some great videos with visual aides that help you understand where and what your sleeve is and how much it can hold. Your entire meal will be the size of your palm, Such that you don’t overdo. I have told myself that i had many years of drinking alcohol , eating whatever i wanted, cookies, bread, ice cream. I’ve had my fun and maybe i’ll Take a spoonful here and there once i reach goal, but now i am a protein and produce machine. And that’s all there is to it. The weight loss is quick initially , but is slowing. I spike my metabolism though spinning and weight training when convenient , but just make sure i get in my 3 mile walk a day at least and always my 64 ox of liquid. Good luck , this is for your health! I’m a month out and feel back to normal, albeit a whole lot lighter!

Self Pay Gastric Sleeve Surgery:
Lolo 2020 replied to Bianca_Moore8851's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just used Dr. Shillingford in Boca and he was amazing! I flew down from nj cuz i was self pay. Staff and hospital are great and a very good all in price of $10,500. Easy hop from miam for you. Met another patient on here who also did it the day before me and she loved him and the team as well. His reviews are stellar. Go for it! I did it 12/20 and don’t regret it at all! Am Down 33 lbs in a month. -
I woke up 4 days after surgery absolutely famished! The protein shakes really helped, versus the broth i was doing. I also made shakes with unsweetened vanilla almond milk and. Half a frozen banana. That density really helped! I still have those days, am just one month out ..

How long did it take u to get there ? That s Stephen my starting wait and my goal -
We’ve all had the 2-3 week stall. U can eat again andnpurees go down easier and u can drink / eat more . It’s normal. I found that u can get through the stall if U kick up ur exercise and break a sweat with brisk walking or spinning or something that gets ur heart rate up. And just watch the calories, carbs and protein grams . Keep to 600 calories and over 60 gnofnprotein and under 50g of carb. Get in ur 64 oz of liquid. It will break , only weigh urself once a week

I figure break 200 by feb 1

The sleeve has worked great for me , understand it is much better than the band -
Omg , typical guy , it just fell off from ur waist ! I have lost from everywhere but a good 5 inches from my waist and abdomen and 3 from hips . Only one from my thighs but that is always the last to go .,

Too funny Steve, we are complete twins . My mont anniversary is Sunday . I was 232 on surgery day and logged in at 209 today . Stall at 222 and 214, but spinning plus 10k steps seems to help . Hoping to break 200 by feb 1

Interesting approach Steve . I am still having trouble getting my protein levels from Whole Foods - I just can’t eat enough at one sitting . So I have resorted to the protein drinks to ensure I get them at a low enough calorie levels . But what you say makes sense- although I am going to try doing green smoothies with unflavored protein powder , trying to get more healthy greens in my diet . If u don’t mind me asking , how much weight do u lose a week in average ?
-
I love both the vanilla and chocolate . I heat the vanilla. In the am and as a decaf hazelnut coffee and it tastes like a latte . I keep cans in the car in case I can’t get any food that works for me . I also got the chocolate and vanilla powders and blend them with 1/2 banana , peanut butter powder and unsweetened vanilla almond milk . Best chunky monkey ice cream ever ! And I drop weight !
-
Steve why have U jettisoned shakes ? I am convinced that the name of the game is to pack the most protein in fornthr least calories and the shakes get u there . My pure protein shakes are 35g of protein for only 160 calories . My doc says drink at least one shake a day until ur at goal - I am trying to do 2 and am going to start green smoothies with unflavored protein so I can get veggies together with protein . I am down 30 since preop and 23 since 12/20 surgery .
-
Good luck Ellen ! Get up and walk , walk, walk . I walked every hour and my gas was gone within like 2 days of getting home
-
Hi Sophie , had my surgery done on the 20 th by DR Shillingford near boca . I am down 30lbs since I started the preop diet , 25 since surgery . Also on purées and soft foods . Have tried chicken salad and didn’t do well so I am sticking with 2’protein drinks a day and a little cottage cheese . Have only been able to get down soft flaky fish as a proper solid here and there . At 600 calories a day and 60-80g of protein the weight is steadily coming off 3-4 lbs a week. Interestingly the more liquid I drink, the more I lose . Getting close to the 200 mark now and really can’t wait , haven’t been under 200lbs in 20 years !

76 pounds , wow ! Ur doing great ! -
I Spin 4x a week and try to walk 10k steps a day . Doing light weights for now - exercise will make u feel good but won’t cause weight loss - focused on protein and liquids .
-
All will be fine , first day will suck but get better quickly thereafter
-
It’s pretty diluted by ice and juice. Just so everyone knows - u don’t explode or anything LOL
-
I had sparkling water with cranberry juice at a work function the other night and all was fine . I only drank a little bit of it , was more for optics ..
