    Thread Killers

Thought it might be fun to make a list of things that render an active, fun-loving thread... well, Dead. I was reading the other day and I saw for the ka-zillionth time or so where some well meaning newbie jumped into a lively discussion to ask the question. You know the one... "What is a PB?" Don't get me wrong, I am sure I did it too. Well maybe, I sure hope not. What can someone post that will make you shut it down and walk away?
  2. How long did it take for this to soften? I have been banded nearly four months and the scar tissue (I am assuming here) under the incision is still quite solid. It feels somewhat tender and deep. Before my first fill I thought it was my port, but I know my port is significantly deeper and to the south of the port scar. Does anyone have this? Am I silly for even noticing? Could it be *secret fear alert* a pocket of drainage that never made it? ick This has probably been addressed on 'Scar Stages', I was just impatient for all the beautiful belly pics to load. If everyone could just chime in and tell me that you have scar tissue I would be grateful. Thanks.

Hey there! It was so nice to meet you today. The meeting was so short! Our longest has been over three hours, but we almost ALWAYS go over an hour. Then again - we are usually inside... with music... and beverages. Have a great trip and see you in September.

Hey Caolin! I am usually kind of inactive on this thread because everyone seems to be in the Tacoma area these days. Welcome! I am in Bremerton, too! We have a cute little support group that meets once a month in Silverdale at the Old Town Bistro. PM (Private Message) me.

 Wow, thanks ladies for all the love! I am glowing over here Sorry about the reflux, it sounds horrible (and scary). It is one of those things everyone talks about; but is one of the things I have managed to avoid so far. Can you suck on a Tums - you'd pick up some Calcium at the same time. My grandparents (unbanded of course) kept them right next to the bed. ...anyone remember the mactal? I think I found it's cousin. I need to go looking for the code. I'll post it next time.

French Fries are pure evil! Both FF and their demonic cousins the potato chips. I am so lucky that I have zero ability to get them past "puckers". I swear, fried potatoes turn to joint compound in my pouch. I dance with glee at the thought of how may calories I am NOT consuming from potatoes. Green, I think you are probably the only person amused by my recent clip-art diversions. Thanks hon, for making me feel brilliant. BJean, not sure if this helps much, but I always start my self-sabotage when I hit a new low on the scale. I am thrilled, but there is a small part of me that gets seriously freaked. If I do some pampering, the food issues are more manageable. Try a mani/pedi or a soak with a great book/CD.

*laughing* I know, right? When I first saw it, it didn't really register and I thought the poor boy was melting. Then I was inspired with the idea of flight... flying squirrel style. Did you realize that if we wait to kill this thread for a page or so, some lucky bandster will have post #1000 on this train-wreck? I am reading a new book - "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver. Apparently you can make your own cheese! Mozzarella in 30 minutes! Cream cheese even faster? It might be worth a shot, at least a fun activity for an afternoon.

AND ON TO BRIGHTER THREAD KILLING SUBJECTS... let's let the cheese age awhile So this is probably a male version of what I will look like at goal. How is that for depressing? Mmm, actually it's still better than where I've been.

Insurance has exclusion for all obesity treatment

Sorry Princess Sophie. I had a written exclusion, too. I self paid in Mexico after completing all the pre-testing up here. They added my exclusion while I was waiting for the sleep-test... aargh! This probably means that if your insurance coverage remains unchanged future costs will be yours alone as well. If you have complications that may constitute a 'medical emergency' instead of 'obesity related services', you should have some grounds to expect coverage; even if it requires an appeal. Some people have had luck contacting Obesity Law and Advocacy Center Others have had luck appealing by proving medical necessity with BMI and medical history. This depends on the insurance, mine was run by soulless b*****ds. You'll get through! It is expensive, frustrating, and sometimes painful, but it works.

    tatoo ?

I know there are going to be some awfully stretched out tats in a decade or four! I've seen a couple already. The most interesting changes are soft tissue tattoos on breasts or bellies before getting pregnant. I've seen a Mickey Mouse whose left ear surpassed the size of his head. Color also doesn't age that well. White turns tan, green turns bluish, and red & yellow just disappears with time. Luckily, I got a chance to learn this before I had mine done. Black ink on bony areas. I expect to have my Celtic knots evolve into black smudges by the time I am 70. Mmm, sexy.

    Banding at Betencourt

Abdominal scars and a protruding port will prevent you from modelling - even most print work. At your proposed goal weight there is no place that would conceal your port and the scars will be nasty for at least the first year. Most likely, indefinitely. Also, what Lucy said, me too.

Hey Punky, this is your ticker. Can't wait to see it. Copy this code by highlighting (click and drag over the code until it is all shaded) then push Control and C. You have copied it, Yay. See "Quick Links" in the blue bar? Click it and then go to "edit signature" When this screen opens, get your cursor in the main window and push Control and V. If you go to the bottom and "Preview Signature" you should be able to see it before anyone else. If you like it, click "Save Signature" Hope this helps hon, Brenda

    Public Smoking Bans

We are smoke free inside AND most recently, within 25 feet of a doorway. The last part is officially law, but widely ignored. So glad I quit, years ago.

    tatoo ?

I am/was pre-diabetic and have two. One in the middle of my back and one on top of my right foot (just like Kyethra). Check with your doc, then go for it. Especially if you have someone to help you care for it. I remember when I woke up and my new back tattoo had "healed" right into my tank-top. Eeech. They didn't ask me about Diabetes when I had either done, but that doesn't necessarily mean than it is SAFE. Make sure to post pics in the tattoo thread if you go under the needle. I know we have a couple of skin artists who post. Wonder when they will stop in.

PBS special "The Mormons" made me furious!

Leatha, I've got a serious question. Not being sarcastic or facetious, promise. I really liked the part of your (now deleted) post that you restated in bold print. That is what is making me ask the question. I consider myself to be an Atheist. I am just not wired for faith, the idea of a Deity is not something that I am able to wrap my mind around. I tried to find faith, once upon a time, I REALLY worked at it. No luck. The answer will be different in each faith or even congregation, I understand that in advance. In fact, I do not believe in Heaven or Hell. Just curious as to your philosophies. to the question - If I have no problem viewing nature and humanity with awe and reverence (though I have been exposed to the church), and I do my best to live a life that helps and inspires others (in your opinion) would someone like me be entitled to the same divine compassion? QUOTE: whether through the light of creation (Rom. 1), through the light of conscience (Rom. 2), or through the light of Christ (Rom. 3). If people respond to whatever light they do have, then God will send them the light of the gospel. Because no one has been kept in the dark about God's existence, we're all accountable directly to Him (Luke 12:47-48).

PBS special "The Mormons" made me furious!

I just finished reading Dr. Ponder's report. I loved it. True, I am not LDS, but it was a sensitive, liberating paper written by a man who loves his Church and his Family but having difficulties reconciling the two. I did have a thought halfway through - Would his daughters have an easier time with the faith if they had been forced to submit to the 'creepy, dirty-minded" men who conducted the worthiness interviews? Sorry, but if anyone tried to spend time alone with my daughter talking to her about sex and sexual feelings... that would be one less dirty old man. Sheesh, they really do this? Sounds like mental rape, it has to be abuse by some definition, right? Thanks Sunta! Another GREAT find.

    Considering Lapband and have concerns

I do not doubt that this is absolutely true, but if you think about it; there is a VERY GOOD REASON FOR THIS. US bandsters go to their hometown surgeons. Mexico bandsters do not always follow up with their foreign surgeon or (like me) choose to find aftercare closer to home. If you are self-pay, Mexico can be a very responsible option. For the price of the crappiest, assembly-line band doc in the US, you can get one of the best Mexico docs complete with aftercare. If you don't mind the travelling and do your background research, Mexico is the way to go. To quote BB - 'cause it was great: Erosion stats are the same regardless of country. It occurs in less than 1% of the population.

    Addictions After WLS

I know a couple of banded drinkers who smoke and shop when they didn't before. I can sympathize with the shopping... If I were a size 10 again... The only new addiction I have picked up is gardening. I even dream about it. It is about as expensive as food, but so much healthier (exception: sunburn). IMO, AT is very real, but can be headed off with head-work and planning.
